Class of 2007 has some early commitments - Katy Blevins, Soddy Daisy - UTC Lindsey Stiles, Soddy Daisy - UTC Kaity Holloway, Gordon Lee - UTC Kristin Holloway, GPS - UTC (will also be running Cross Country for UTC) Kandice Erwin, Knox Central - UTC Tia Blowser, Knox Central - UTC Breanna Kilgore, NW Whitfield, UTC These girls had several colleges looking at them, all DI schools. I know Auburn, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Alabama, Arizona State, Indiana are just a few of the schools interested in these players. Glad to see they are staying close to home so we can support them!

No, only the two seniors. I have heard rumors about the pitcher leaving but she is not. From what I understand they only moved but will not leave GPS. Everyone else stays and we get two talented freshmen as well. The 5 Eagles (pitcher, short stop, catcher, centerfield, 1st base) will play summer ball together just as in the past 3 years, all others are all on A ball teams as well, including 18u Raiders, 18u Falcons, 16 Xplosion and one in 14u. by the way, the Eagles 16u won the Memorial Qualifier with those 5 GPS players returning from state at 4:30 am, along with Soddy's 3rd baseman returning at 4:30am as well. They hit the field in Chattanooga for 4 games on Saturday starting at 9am and finishing at 11pm and another 3 games on Sunday with only two hours or less of sleep before Saturday play. Only lost one game, the late one Saturday night. The girls were falling over their own feet but they came back and defeated the team that beat them Saturday night to win the title and berth to the ASA Nationals (had to beat them twice). The whole team worked hard and got the job done!

Yes, two good players are graduating, however, 12 good players remain. The infield remains the same, and GPS has two players to step right into the two positions vacated in the outfield by seniors. GPS will be the underdog, just like RedBank was this year.

You would be surprised at the amount of kids in private schools that are not of the "privileged sector". There are always situations that cause parents to make decisions they do for their kids when it comes to public vs private. Private schools are quick to be judged simply because they are private. There are no real differences between the majority of the kids that attend them from the ones that attend public. Maybe the facilities, or the uniforms, or the demands the students must meet, but the kids themselves.... not that big of a difference. Not everyone can afford to pack up and move to another school zone if the school the kids are zoned for is “not the best situation” for them. Not everyone knows someone that can fudge on the papers a little to have their kids attend a school out of their zone and not everyone is lucky enough to be zoned for schools like Soddy, East Ridge or Ooltewah, and many other great public schools in the Chattanooga area. So, sometimes private schools are the only way out, even if it means working 3 jobs (per parent) to get them in there and to keep them in there. And, even if it means having your kids totally stressed out most of their teenage years with the amount of academic work private schools usually hand out and the grades that the student must maintain in order to come back the next year. There are many public schools that also overload the students with work (so no battle starting here), especially in accelerated classes. A private school can academically set their own guidelines, usually very tough ones. They can even set their own school hours, lunch menus, uniform standards, backpack rules, etc. However, they fall under the same rules as all other Tennessee Schools, TSSAA rules when it comes to sports. Private schools are no different from any other school in that aspect. Preparing kids for life comes from home and from school, not just school. Regardless of what school it is you attend, peer pressure is the same every where and the competitiveness between teenagers is in every school.... thumb but on that note.... as far as preparing for life, well, all I have to say about that one is.... If a girl can get along with 500 other females in a small and competitive environment for 4 to 6 years... there just ain’t much that girl won’t be able to conquer the rest of her life!

Just got word that the Gibbs tournament is cancelled.

Stacey is a great kid, many parents did not want her to go, including the parents of the pitchers (that I know). She did a good job for the Eagles last summer when Thompson and Holloway were both out with surgery recovery. Pickett cut her because he has Thomas (Ooltewah), Holloway (GPS), and Flores (LFO), all healthy. There is a lot more to the story but no need to discuss it here on the boards, other than saying, yes, there were "reasons" and good ones. Never believe everything you hear, especially coming from the "cut side of the rope".

Holly Thomas, Ooltewah

GPS defeated Ooltewah in a scrimmage at Ooltewah on Thursday. GPS 4, Ooltewah 1. Holloway pitched for GPS, Rice pitched first 5 for Ooltewah , then Thomas came in.

GPS defeated Ooltewah in a Thursday scrimmage 4-1. Holloway pitched for GPS and Rice pitched for Ooltewah with Thomas coming in the last 2 innings.

If I remember correctly, because they won the first two tournaments, the Viper in Birmingham, with Holloway, and then won the ASA National Qualifier in Chattanooga that qualified them to go to the Nationals. They didn't win the 14u State because they didn't play in it. The older Eagle team then moved up to 16u and played against us and other 16u teams in NSA the rest of the season to prepare for the Nationals. I think they also played in the 18u division in USSSA a couple of tournaments. No reason to stay down and beat up on the younger Eagle team. No matter though. This is about school ball. Just needed to clarify.

Hammond, GPS, will be at UTK next year. GPS has only 2 seniors. The strongest core of the girls on the GPS team have two or three years left, the freshman and sophomore classes. Holloway had surgery last year on a foot that gave her trouble for the past couple of years. Because of her surgery, she was out all season. She is healthy and ready to go. Lamberson was out as well last year at Ooltewah due to illness. Both are eager to return to the mound. (And, both pitch "legally" without taking a step back off the rubber.) As far the Eagles are concerned, with Holloway, Thompson and the LFO kid, Flores, they will be very strong this summer. Thompson was also out with knee surgery last year. And, not to forget the speed and the defense they have, which includes 4 other players from GPS. It could go either way between GPS and Baylor. Both are strong teams and both have good coaching and both should make it to state. Best of luck to both teams. Underdogs always have the advantage.... winning isn't expected like it is with the favored team that has the pressure to continue to win.

Also from GPS - Kristen Holloway (soph) and Kamry Chester (fresh)

GPS not only has pitching but also has catching this year... and for the next 4. A weak spot for them over the last couple of years. There are 5 of the 16u Austin Eagles starting on the GPS team. Kaitlyn Holloway and Adrianne Lamberson are pitchers for the Bruisers, both very talented. Emily Boydston, one of the pitchers from last year, quit softball to concentrate on volleyball. Holloway and Lamberson are a good match with different styles and speeds. Lillian Hammond, a senior this year, is also a very strong player for GPS. Don't overlook the talent on this team. Baylor will still be strong, but don't count GPS out.

Sophomore Kristin Holloway from GPS was 2nd overall in Bridges, 2nd in UTC behind Shelly Taylor and 3rd at the Berry meet (which was her 1st meet) and will only improve her time from here on out. The heat at the Bridges slowed a lot of the runners down actually. Times were off from the previous week for several of the Nashville teams. Holloway came in at 19:07 and Jill at 18:28. If it had been cooler, both Jill and Kristin would have taken about 10 seconds off of their time, as would most other serious CC runners. thumb Holloway was only 18 seconds behind Taylor at the UTC meet in Chattanooga which is a huge accomplishment considering Holloway is returning this year from 3 broken bones in her foot from last year's season and was unable to compete in any meets after the 2003 AF Bridges last year. Hats off to all the girls out their kicking up the dust!!

GPS will get stronger as this season goes on and new seasons start. They are losing only 2 seniors and gaining 4 strong "A" players for the 2005 season, including the two 8th graders playing this year, plus 2 new additions for the 2005 season. The three freshman starting this year are all strong "A" ball players as well. Lillian Hammond is a junior and will be returning next year. Strong bats, pitching, speed on the bases, and a tough defense will all come together for the Bruisers. These girls play hard and want the "W" more than ever.

GPS has a freshman pitcher, Kaity Holloway. She has been clocked at 63-64. She takes from Beth Keylond-Randolph where most of the Chattanooga pitchers take lessons from. Soddy's pitcher Nicki Waters also takes from Beth. Both of them are strong on the mound with heat and junk.
