  1. Overton wins state, zone change, Glencliff goes to finals game, zone change, Hillsboro wins state. Same zone was moved from Overton to Glencliff to Hillsboro. I am sure facilities helps, but in all three of these it had nothing to do with facilities. I was at Antioch when school moved to Hobson Pk. We did not even play at new school first season. We drove a bus and players traveled to old building for locker room, practice, and games. Talent improved because of a change in zone, not so much about increase in school size. Cane Ridge opens and lot of good talent happens to be in that zone. Athletics in metro has always been more about players in the zone than the facilities. History proves this.
  2. Never said metro is an easy job. I think that is what makes metro fun,the challenges. I am not so sure about a death sentence though. And yes, I do still love metro football and want all schools to be successful. I think the biggest challenges in metro is still coaching the players you have and getting them to work. All the other things that they do not have will not keep them from winning if they have talented kids. Talent will trump everything. Still getting to coach football and work with kids makes it a good job.
  3. support? they get the equipment they need, they have a weight room, locker room. they have a practice field and a stadium. winning? is that all it is about. do not all kids deserve to be coached. Are you saying that all the coaches that coached in the state championship games could not make a difference here. They can only win with players? I know many schools that have the same support and facilities and still win. this is a good job because you get to coach football and train kids, winning is just a by product of doing the right things.every school has obstacles , most people just call them excuses.
  4. Please be smart in hiring new coach. I have seen many times a job be given to a former pro player with no experience ever as a coach or a teacher. I have never seen one of these hires be successful. I do not understand administration"s thinking when making these decisions. They were great football players, yes, but that does not translate well into coaching.
  5. Hillsboro does not have the same money problems as most. Two big money makers for Hillsboro are Christmas tree sales and plant sale on front lawn. I know for a fact they make the school a lot of money. Not all metro schools share the same problems when it comes to money.
  6. Coaches sometimes do not control who they play. Admin sometime is more concerned about money than wins.I know of an admin that demanded a coach play a private for revenue knowing they would lose. I know schools outside metro do not want to play in regions with metro schools or schedule them because of money. Even metro admin was glad when metro was placed in regions with county schools because of money. Sad when a county school brings a bigger crowd than the home metro school.
  7. I think this was tried once before. I can remember when entire schedule was metro schools. Only play outside was playoffs or bowl games. I still wish only top 2 teams went to playoffs and bowl games still played.
  8. I think this is one of the best jobs in Tennessee. Everything needed to be contending for state championships is here. Friday nights lights happens here at home games.
  9. I think the coach he is referring as a candidate for hillsboro to is a former assistant at hillsboro currently head man at another metro school. by the way bleacher, do I know you?
  10. No problem. I enjoyed working with metro kids. I am still coaching and have a son who coaches in metro now.
  11. A big problem metro has is having coaches who do teach in the building. I am sure these coaches know football, but coaching in high school is better with coaches who teach in the school.Even sadder is not many want to deal with teaching in metro or are not certified.
  12. I am agreeing with you. I am saying that teams outside metro have athletes also or they would not be playing still. I am also saying that coaches in metro have a tougher job than most because of the same things you are saying.I do know ,I coached in metro 34 years. Go back and read my last comment of my post.
  13. What happened? Metro teams seem to beat themselves more often than the opponent.
  14. Very interesting and just like all metro jobs, it has obstacles. Metro is tougher than most may think.
  15. There is not a team still playing that does not have some athletes. Coaching goes way beyond schemes. Coaching is managing your players and getting them to play as a team and buy in. All teams playing now are in the scheme that fits and coaching them to execute with as few mistakes as possible. As for metro coaching, I know a lot who can coach outside metro and very few who can coach inside metro.
  16. . Very true. One of metro's best.
  17. I have seen both, late in season. I think it will be a very good game.
