  1. If the schools and coaches are not good enough for the home schoolers during the school day, why would they be good enough to participate with in extracurricular activities? You cannot have the best or worst of both worlds. The kids that participate in TSSAA sports have the social interaction on a daily and hourly basis with their classmates in good and bad times. They deal with peer pressure, resolve conflicts, interact with all strata of society, and learn to get along. It's called growing up. Sometimes that is a rough experience, but it is one that we should and have to go thru if we are going to deal with it in the real world. If you shelter yourself, isolate your problems, and avoid dealing with those that may be considered the undesireables, you have missed out on some truly great rewards. What a reward it is to befriend someone who is not like you. You cannot avoid the problemed and have a chance to help them. There should not be a double standard. Either you take the good with the bad (some schools are better than others) ,or you isolate yourself completely (including our athletic programs). Your property tax situation is the same as an 80 year old widow's who has no children or grandchildren in the local school system. Their tax dollers go toward an educated society which is better for the common good. Not to be a socialist, but if you don't want to be in, stay out. Let's see what hornets this stirs up whether it be at home or at shcool.

White House High School will go against Father Ryan Hendersonville Clarksville Mt. Juliet
  3. G, I know how you feel as a sport that you love is ripped from a University. I know exactly how these young men feel as their program has been pulled out from under them. I will say that this is the destiny of a mid-major college. As a former football player at WKU and a long-tenured high school soccer and football coach it has me torn down the middle. For one, I was on the team in 1992 that had it's football team scrapped. We practiced in the Spring with no fall season upcoming for three weeks while the coaches that remained were looking for places for us to play. At the end of Spring practice the board of regents approved 5-4 to reinstate the program with 15 fewer scholarships and 2.5 fewer coaching postions. They only did this because the public and alumni put pressure on them. I don't know if this will work in a so-called minor program. At that time back in "the day" football was a minor program in a basketball state. Since then football has more than a decade of winning seasons, a national championship, and all-time record season ticket sales. That is not an excuse for what they did, but if the state is calling for cuts it will be the minor sports in mens' athletics that will suffer (title IX). I am a proud supporter both in finance and in attendence for my university and truly hate that this has happened. I went to several soccer games on the football field when I played there, even though I had no idea I would coach it for 15 years when I graduated. I love coaching soccer. I love coaching fooball. I am married to two different sports during the year but get to enjoy coaching so many more kids that others. I hate that another window has been closed for their future. However, majority rules and these are the state of affairs we have to deal with. It is not right, but it is what it is. If you would like to talk in length on this, just call Coach M at LCHS and he will give you my number. I respect what you do for HS athletics and also appreciate that you have played us a couple of times over the last 4 years. Just think for a while and you'll know who I am. This may be the only post I ever make on a message board, but I this is my University and I am obligated to be the devil's advocate on this one.
  4. You have got to be the former tackle at WH that was in on the 99 2/3 yard drive against Portland in 1984 that snapped a losing streak to them that dated back to 1943. The push of you linemen and the running of Mark West on 16 straight plays goes down as an all-time great for WH that is still talked about routinely by the Blue Devil hard core faithful. If this is you, then Stu would be proud just as I am of beating Portland 8 straight times from 1987-1993 (twice one year in the playoffs). 54
  5. Even after the coach from WH worked for 3 hours to roll the water off the field it was still ankle deep in several places. The game could be played next week either Wednesday or Friday.
  6. The player in question has been cleared of a neck injury. The ambulance was for precautionary measures because of point tenderness in the neck. His shoulder is fractured and he will be out 6-8 weeks. The other player that was injured 5:00 minutes before will be out 4-6 weeks with a broken wrist.
  7. No game needed in week 2. White House has added an away game vs. Alcoa.
  8. White House High School needs an away game for week 2 in the 2007 season. If any school is interested please contact Coach Jeff Porter at WHHS at 615-672-3761 or at the WHHS Fieldhouse at 615-672-6401. 2008 would be a home game for WHHS.
  9. As a White House graduate, alumni of football, and current supporter I want to post my 3rd thread on here in 2 years. It absolutely broke my heart when my town split. It is noboddy's fault but the county commissioners from both counties and their want to pull a power play that we are in the state that we are in today. For over 100 years Roberstson raised our kids to 6th grade and sumner raised them to 12th. That ended with a difference in holliday schedules and bus drivers complaining about picking up half of the kids on one day. Petty to say the least. If I had my way, there would be one school, one town, one team in all sports. We would be 4A in football and 3A in all other sports and competing at a high level WITH ALL OF OUR KIDS. Anyone that knows about the 2004 season at WHHS would know that we were only one or two kids away from winning a 2nd state championship that year. It shoulda', coulda', woulda' been. But we are here. These are the times and we are where we are. Coach Brown and Coach McDonald are highly respected in my book as well as the rest of the Herritage coaching staff and their accomplishments to this point deserve great accolades. Their's is the first score I check on Friday nights and in my heart I am pulling for them. They are 1st class. I'm 100% sure that they had nothing to do with the NEW BLUE. They know too well the sensitivity of the issue in White House and are way too educated to have knowingly promoted this. Some of my closest friends from the old days feel the same way and their children go to Woodall. When their kids take the field at Dewey H. Whitson stadium I will be pulling for them even though I will be at a WHHS game. The NEW in "new blue" connotates a replacement belief and I'm sorry if that is the way it is taken but there are those that feel that is the way it is. If the community could show as much respect to each side as the coaching staffs do to each other, this community could win two state championchips in the same year. If it were up to me, we would consollidate in to a city school and win one for all of White House. Until then, why not win two. Please, please, please don't separate for one....unite for two. MAL
  10. This has been the best week of practice that the Blue Devils have had all year. Despite the ongoings of a few parents and so-called fans, the team has really come together over the last three days and there is more fun and comradery (sp?) in the camp than ever. This team may actually be coming together and playing their roles for the first time this year. There is a newfound trust in the coaching staff and a humbling may have actually taken effect. All goals are still attainable and we're not done yet. It is a new season and the past is the past. It may be time for a reckoning and the seniors are not satisfied their past performances. An attonement is due and they can be remembered for their performance Friday night. The value of heart is immeasurable. This will be our finest hour. What a great opportunity to prove your worth as a "football player" when playing a team that has taken so much from you. Good luck to the white and blue when you take the field representing your community, friends, and most of all faminly Friday Night at 7:00 o'clock. Thank you to Josh, Mac, Advocate, and Dandy for your true support of your program. When times are tough, the snakes stick their heads out of the weeds. The true workers of the land are there to cut the heads off when they pop up. I just pray that the snakes will be man enough to unmask themselves to the coaching staff one day and express their feelings face to face instead of hiding on a message board. Go Blue, Go Blue, Go Blue. District 10 AA and Region 4 AAA belong to The Blue Devils.
  11. I played with coach Brock and know what he overcame to be a very good College football player. If he can take what he learned then and from what he's learned in his years of study as an assistant, he should do very well indeed and I wish him the best of luck. In his years as a college football player he witnessed the near distruction of his program to it's rise in national prominence and he can do the same with NCS. Good luck from YODA.
  12. Station Camp was truly the better team by capitalizing on all opportunities in the second half. When they were up 5-0 with 10:00 left in the game they subbed three starters back in the game. Their best player was on the field for the rest of the game and that shows no class by their coach and their school. They will pay for that in the future. They have the talent to make it to Memphis, but not the class. This will come back to haunt them. White House was outmatched for most of the contest, but they played hard regardless. Character, not talent, wins championships and regardless of hope this will not be the Bison's year for glory. You will reap what you sow. The heart-break is coming Station Camp. You may win the battles, but you don't have the intangibles to win the war.
  13. We are White House and we will not be intimidated any time or anywhere, including "Orange Mound". Tough people raise tough kids and we will represent all that BDP stands for.
  14. Coach Chris asked Stratford for a job immediately after the game with Stratford. Fact. Enough said.
  15. Bigwheel and Volsandtitans, when you plyed at WH what numbers were you? What positions did you play?
  16. White House started football in 1943. Roy Lamberth was the 1st quarterback and the 1st game played was against Portland and that is when the rivalry began. White House scored 1st in that game and Portland proceded to beat them up pretty bad. White House never beat Portland until 1984 when they went 99 yards in the last 6 minutes to win the game 14-13 and it has been that close back and forth since.
