  1. I still find it funny that although footballer keeps bringing up that Wartburg beat Coalfield last year, he has yet to mention that Sunbright got ran over by Coalfield last year (and before you say it footballer, the refs didn't lose the game for you, a close loss could be argued but a 20+ point loss cannot.) And like veerman said, all you are doing is giving Coalfield even more reason to run the score as high as they can. I know you are going to say that I'm not a true fan, but I'm a realist and I know what I'm talking about when I say, that unless Sunbright does something drastic, then they will be at the bottom of the region like they have the past 2 years. Its just the facts. You can call me a sellout or whatever you want, but its the truth. By me saying this, I think it makes me even more of a true fan, because I can admit when my team is down and I don't have to get on here and run my mouth and make not only myself look like a total moron, but make the school that you have "pride" for look like a bunch of ignorant wannabes. So go ahead and keep running your mouth, I just hope your teammates don't find out who you are, because after they get beat on by the other teams because of your stupidity, they will beat on you and you will be lucky to even be able to type anymore.
  2. This happens in all levels of play in softball. If you have ever watched a NCAA softball game on tv then you will most likely hear chants from the dugouts, although since the camera is far off from them it might be a faint cheer in your ears. This even happens in the olympics, you will hear Team USA do it all the time and even the teams from Japan, China, etc. Its just a part of the game, that although annoying at times, it won't go anywhere anytime soon.
  3. All you have to do to be an umpire/referee for TSSAA is to fill out a little application and pass an open rule book online test that you can take as many times as you need to pass it. In order to do region games you have to make an 80 or higher on another test (not 100% sure if its 80 or 85). The tests are over different situations and are multiple choice questions dealing with the situations and interpreting the rules of the game. But other than that, its best to get in with an Umpiring body such as the Clinch Valley Umpiring Association or whichever is closer to your hometown. More or less that is what it takes to be an ump. Usually you get started out doing middle school games and non-district games so that you get the hang of the whole thing, but if you can get a few of those games under your belt then you get better jobs with better teams and more games overall. I'm certified but I haven't had the time this season to take on any games because of school, but if you can get 3 games a week and get them reasonably close to your home, you can make some good money.
  4. I believe your logic is a little flawed, because Coalfield beat you guys also, so saying that you are better than all the morgan county teams based on one game against wartburg isn't a true indicator. And saying that a school with K-12 can't ammount to anything is a dumb statement. Coalfield is K-12 yet they have been deep in the playoffs on numerous occasions. What has OZ done lately? Not much, in the last 6 years or so maybe even longer. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  5. I'd like to see where you can figure I cheer for other teams other than Sunbright. You won't find it when Sunbright plays them. I really couldn't care less about other teams but I do like to see the rest of the county do well. And as far as the other guys question, Sunbright hasn't beat Coalfield since 2000 when they went 10-0 and they haven't beat Wartburg since the early 90's mostly due to not playing them.
  6. He is apparently blind too, because he misspelled "Rufus" when it was on the screen for him. I really don't see why I keep arguing with him, I guess its the pride I have for my alma mateur that makes me respond to his idiotic posts. I just hate to see my former school represented by someone who thinks they are the biggest and baddest person to come through Sunbright, but in fact they do nothing but make my school look like its full of a bunch of illiterate hicks who have nothing better to do than to put other schools down and to post some of the most immature and eye wrenching posts known to man. But then again, maybe he is doing Sunbright a favor, maybe someone from the school board will see his posts and give the school more money for the English dept. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  7. Exactly, if you guys couldn't make it to the playoffs with Starkey and Carrol then you don't have a chance this year, because if it wasn't for those 2 last year, mostly starkey anyway, then you guys wouldn't have even beat who you did. He single-handedly kept you guys in games for as long as he and single-handedly beat oakdale. So without him you would have went winless in the region and possibly for the year.
  8. As a Sunbright Alum and former player, please don't think all people from Sunbright are illiterate and completely unintelligent. He is oblivious to his stupidity and it shows in every post he writes. Odds are he doesn't even get to play and is a benchwarmer or junior high kid that thinks he is "ghetto" by misspelling every word and making himself sound "cool" by putting everybody else in the county down when truth be told the only team that Sunbright beat last year was Oakdale with the rest of the teams being first year programs. As far as tops in the county goes, I say it will be a toss up between Coalfield and Wartburg and if Sunbright doesn't find somebody to replace Starky and Carrol then they will be lucky to stay ahead of Oakdale, because I believe the coach down there has them in the right direction, they just have to find people to come out for the team. As far as the region goes, I would say OZ and Oneida would fight it out for the top in the region, and I personally don't really know anything about Jellico, they usually don't have anything but there is always the one year where they are decent so they are due a good year.
  9. If you want to see the debate for a shot clock in high school basketball then you should search back around 3 weeks or so and you will find 13 pages or so about the same topic that has been dissected and debated for and against a shot clock. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  10. I find it funny that people say that the championship is being played on the first day. If thats the case why don't we just call TSSAA and tell them to forget about the rest of the games cause apparently there is no need in playing them /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" . I'm sorry but saying the Humboldt/Manassas game is the championship game is a little premature, don't you think. If there was no need to play it out and we went on hype alone then we should have given the AA title to Austin East since they were the overhyped team for the whole year and give the AAA girls title to Oak Ridge. Oh wait that's right, they didnt even make it to State. Hype isn't everything, you still have to play the games out. Anything can happen on any given day. So lets just toss it up and play, cause we can debate all we want til our fingers fall off from typing and it still will have no bearing on what happens in the tournament. Every team left deserves to be there, they have earned there spot by winning the sectional games so in my eyes they all have the same shot at winning it all, its just some teams will have a tougher road than others. Thats nothing new in sports, its all the luck of the draw.
  11. Truthfully, why does it matter who you play when? You will have to play them sooner or later if they advance too. I read in a earlier post that that Clarkrange and Forrest were the 2 best teams in the tournament (a matter of opinion me personally I give credit to OZ for #2) but who cares. 2nd place is just the first loser anyway. I personally don't see why they give out a 2nd place trophy in the first place. You will never see a college or professional team brag about coming in 2nd, I can almost 100% guarantee that. Someone said earlier that they think that T$$AA should seed the teams 1-8 so that the best teams get "rewarded" for being the best. Well the reward is already given out, they are in the tournament what more do they think they deserve, there are plenty of teams sitting at home right now that talent wise and success wise could make a argument that they "deserve" that "reward" just go ask Jackson County. That's what's so great about High School sports, everything is decided on the court, if you win you advance, that's it. No computers deciding if team A is better than Team B or biased media and coaches deciding which team is better. Blind draw is the way to go. I do agree that teams from the same region shouldn't be excluded from the same bracket. The better team on that day will prevail and advance regardless of who they play. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. The only one I have a problem with is Tyler Harper, IMO I would much rather have someone who could run with the rest of the team instead of a wall that can't keep up in a fast paced game. Plus Caleb Bunch has to be one of the top 10 in the region, I mean he was the district 4 MVP. Plus Randy Sexton wouldn't be a bad addition as well, not as good as some of the ones listed but definately a great player.
  13. WOW! The thread actually fell to the second page, lol. But back to topic, adding a shot clock would also change the strategy of coaches in the final 2 minutes of the game when most coaches want to slow down the pace and grind out as much clock as possible, which brings me back to one of my original points. If you are dumb enough not to guard the offense for extended periods of time then you don't deserve to win and you especially don't have any room to whine about the other team doing whatever it takes to win the game.
  14. Ok this really has nothing to do with the game or basketball for that matter but it has bugged the crap out of me for a few years now. Isn't the plural form of Buffalo "Buffalo" not "Buffaloes"? You know like in the song Home On the Range , "Oh give me a home where the BUFFALO roam." Sorry had to ask. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  15. Sunbright attempted to run the A-11 offense in a couple of games last season but in the games they did run it they rarely got pass midfield with it and were blown out in those games.
  16. First off, I would like to say that I'm not what you would call a true Wartburg fan, just a basketball fan in general that likes to see the county teams do well, but this thread is getting pretty comical. All it is doing is showing how big of an idiot bulldogfamily is and that whoever he or she is, that they are not a true Wartburg fan. Instead of congratulating the team on some very hard fought victories the past few days, they are bashing Coach Davis in an immature manner. If you really have a problem with the man, say it to his face instead of hiding behind a screen name on the internet. Or better yet, since you apparently think that he is the worst coach ever, maybe you could go to practice and give some support and maybe some pointers on your great basketball knowledge that you think you have. I mean what has the coach done the past two years to make you totally against him? Lets see, he led his team to the first Region Championship and State Tournament appearance last year and this year he led an injury plagued team with not much experience other than Armes and Fountain to the Region championship game and sub-state. Hmm man he is the worst coach ever. What was he thinking having success like that? I might be able to agree that last year was partly due to the groundwork that Dallas Davis set forth in the previous years, but this year it was all Jason Davis in motivating and getting the most out of what he had. Look at Chapman if you need proof. She went from a player that got clean up minutes last year to an all tournament player this year. You apparently want the bulldogs to fail, because while they are having success you are doing nothing but bringing them down. So do everyone a favor and just stay at home for the championship game and the future games for that matter. The Lady bulldogs don't need your support to be successful. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  17. So you are pretty much saying that a less talented team shouldn't use any strategy possible to have a chance to win against a more talented team? It wasn't too long ago that the dunk was outlawed because it was viewed as unfair to inferior athletes, how would you like your basketball if that rule was still in effect? To say that the reason to put in a shot clock to make it harder for an inferior team to pull off an upset isn't a very good arguement. If a team is truly great it would find a way to pull out a win no matter what pace the inferior team was incorporating.
  18. Exactly, putting a shot clock in for just the State tournament would just take away more from the enjoyment of the game for fans than not having one. Some teams aren't equipped personel wise to push the ball every possession, some teams have to play a slower pace so that they have semi decent legs at the end of the game. So to say that adding a shot clock for the state tournament is a good idea is a real stretch. It would pretty much be punishing the teams that earned their spots in the tournament by playing slower paced offenses.
  19. The only problem with having a shot clock just for the state tournament would be that it would change the complexion of the game in a way that would give an advantage to teams that continuously push the ball. If this is done, a more traditional set based offensive team would be at a tremendous disadvantage because it would force them to stray away from the game plan that got them to state in the first place. Granted its usually the high flying, fast paced teams that win state anyway, but adding a shot clock would just add to the disadvantage for teams that play at a slower pace.
  20. I view stalling as kind of a double edged sword in my opinion of it. On one hand it takes away from the excitement of the game and lead to lower scores and lower points by some good players. But on the other, my honest opinion is, if the opposing team's coach doesn't have his defense guard against it, then he nor the fans have anything to whine about because it isn't the offense's fault that the defense refuses to guard them. The last time I checked the game was about the TEAM, not Mommy and Daddy's "all star" getting his average and it definatley isnt about pleasing every fan. If that was the case, then there would be no reason to even play the games because it is impossible for both teams to win. Although I can remember in T-ball it seemed like this happened because no matter who won we all got pizza at the end, lol /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />
  21. The reason I stated it would be semi-fair was that not all situations are the same. Like if there is a mad dash for the ball with possession changing multiple times, the decision on who was the offense and defense becomes a judgement call and we all know how some refs do with such calls. It would put an even bigger load on the refs to get the call right.
  22. Changing the jump ball rule to what they have in the NBA wouldn't be a good idea. It wouldn't work out fair for when a hustling 5'5 guard ties up a 6'4 post player. Not everybody has the vertical of a Nate Robinson. If anything changing it to rewarding the defense would be the only way to change it semi-fairly but there would still be unfair elements to that rule as well, and isn't the rules supposed to be made to make the game as fair for both teams as possible.
  23. Is the Sunbright/Rockwood game still at 7?
  24. I'm alright with the first round games being at the higher seed, because for the most part the only people who want to see those 2 games are the fans from those schools, but when it comes to the semis and finals, they should be played at the same place. I've heard some people state that the reason they did it this year was to keep the host school from having an unfair advantage by hosting and playing in there home gym every game, well that doesn't make any sense because in the end the top seeds get that "unfair" advantage anyway. The only way to take that advantage away would be to have the games at a neutral site outside of the district. Like have the District 4 tournament at a District 3 site and vice versa. I don't think this is a good idea but it would sure beat paying the same price for one game that you used to be able to pay for multiple games.
