  1. Since County is a 5a team, you will probably get more replys if you post this in the 4a-5a thread. County being a 5a team, will of course have much more depth and that will definitly make a difference when it is 95 degrees. Still Sweetwater should hold their own!
  2. Is that the same offense as last year? I didn't see LC against the other two teams, but against Sweetwater, LC had a big line, but they seemed to be trying to spread the field? The line did ok, but it was more the hard running of their backs that got what few positive running plays they had. I figured with the big line they would try to line up and run over people, but they didn't! I didn't see the skill people to run that type of offense, unless they are waiting in the wings. Sweetwaters defense almost shut them down completly, if not for some hard running by the backs! It wasn't just the skill people, Sweetwaters line and LB's was shedding through the Oline at will. The LC coaches had to keep blowing their whistles, and stepping in to keep the QB from getting killed. I think with the big line they should try to be more physical and run straight at people. It was just a 1st scrimmage though, maybe they just didn't show much. Goodluck this year, I saw that LC doesn't play Sweetwater in the Jamboree this year, so that is good, who do you guys play? LC does have good players coming up through their feeder system, I'm sure things will get better!
  3. Like I said Central is really coming on they were in my opinion the second best team there.. In a regular season game though, Sweetwater wins by 20+. The sustained drive you talk about was on what, a 50yd field. 25yds of it on Sweet penaltys. And the one big running play Cent. had 15-20yds, there was a bigtime holding pen that wasn't called. One of the officials even joked about the other ref missing it! Now penaltys still count in drives but... Central is much improved, but if you look behind the basic scrimmage you know that Sweetwaters line is better, best lineman didn't play. In a real game WR Johnkins requires double coverage which he burned on the one long ball for a TD and that opens up the run bigtime. Sweetwater had better defense, Off. backs and reciever. I do like centrals skill people, but I was expecting more agressivness and power when I saw the size of their line. Good luck to you guys this season.
  4. Sweetwater was definitly the best team of the four defeating all three. But just a first scrimmage, long way to go! Sweetwaters defense was tough and they had the best skill players. Central is really coming on though.
  5. Don't really see alot during a first scrimm. Some coaches our even more conservative than others. Some do alot of subing in early scrimmages which can result in big plays. So depending on how they run the scrimmage and how the different coaches and teams use the scrimmage who knows! Sweetwater desipt being the only 2a team has the potential to be the best of the four at the end of the year. They have a new QB and need some lineman and key younger players to stepup, so they probably won't show alot. They are loaded at the RB position with speed and power. They also have one of the best WR in the area. Key will be how line and QB progresses. Defense should be pretty strong. McMinn Cent should be much improved and pretty good. Have some verygood skill players. Not heard anything or seen LC and Herritage yet this year.
  6. I think this year will be very exciting. Another strong year for the reg. Alcoa on top till someone changes that, but Sweetwater could be a surprise and be a strong team by years end. CAK should be very good, as well as Loudon and Rockwood. Don't see how the reg. doesn't get five teams in the play-offs!
  7. Depending on brackets, everyone seems to be forgetting about the other reg. 2 teams. Sweetwater and Loudon could both do damage at the end of the year before it's over. CAK should be decent too,or Rockwood with five [probably getting in.! With the way things have changed for the play-offs in 2a, it's a possibility that some reg.2 teams could end up in other brackets. I'm not sure what Loudon has yet to replace what they lost, but I do know that Sweetwater has the potential to get stronger through the season, and do major damage come play-off time. The key will be staying healthy and having a couple players stepup. I agree with everyone, Alcoa is king till they get knocked off, but this is also the best chance for that to happen in the last 4 years.
  8. FridayAug. 3rd @ Lenior City 4 way scrimmage: LC, Sweetwater, Mcminn Cent., Mary Herritage.
  9. Good 2a teams can more than hold their own against average or below average 5a teams. I recall Sweetwater taking on Coffee back in 2001-2002, and Sweetwater dominated both games. 55-28 & 45-22.
  10. Sequoyah did a good job in the second half, but as you said Sequoyah was mixing up players and even using some juniors and seniors in key situations, Sweetwater used mostly freshman, with a few sophs thrown in for a majority of the second half when seq scored all their points. I wish Sequoyah luck this year in class 3A, but they don't match-up with Sweetwater in the skill positions, on the line, or on the defensive side of the ball this year. Seq does look like they are moving in the right direction, keep the faith.
  11. I will go with GP. Come postseason does it matter? - -
  12. How would you rate the regions in 2a from top to bottom? What is your opinion?
  13. I have been out of the area for awhile, how will Sweetwater Football look this year? I have heard some rumors and would like to hear some info. I know that the Cats will have a tough offense again, loosing just their Qb(just, lol), third best back, and maybe their 3rd reciever. How will the new starter a Qb be? I know they have the Johnkins kid at Wr, and he is hard to handle. They have a strong backfield with the speedster Latham making moves. Heard the Ferguson kid (FB) is working hard and could be tough to handle this year. Berrong & Blomstrom should also be tough runners. They lost some lineman and Linebackers, but also have some strong retuners at those positions. Also heard that a name from the past(R. Waldon) has returned, and will be back for his senior season? Is that true? Tell me what you know or have heard and give some more info on some of the lineman/backers, and the defense. Also tell me some of the names to watch for this year, and are there any newcomers who could make an immediate impact. - Also does anyone have Sweetwaters schedule yet?
  14. Sweetwater 2 - 0 over Farragut.
  15. Sounds like the whole district is fairly young. Sweetwater only has 1 senior. They are a Junior laiden team with 7 of them, 5 freshman and 4 sophs. They have a scrimmage today that should go a long way in finding out just how good they could be, as they host Farragut.
  16. I agree with most, a couple not mentioned. As I just watched these 2 teams play. Loudon: Campbell Off lineman on loud cant remember # or name right this second. Sweetwater #9 Cagle one of the top tacklers in E. Tenn. #42 Blomstrom #31 Blomstrom
  17. No one is giving Sweetwater much credit for the win. They played a very good game, and have steadily improved. They had a great game plan, #2 Johnkins could've hurt Loudon alot more, but he wasn't needed. He could've had #13 or whoever covered him dominated almost everytime. They had to double him, and it opened up the run. Sweetwater off line also played a good game, Latham and Smith both had over 110yds, and the other 2 backs ran hard and got tough yards when needed #11 and #12 I believe. The scary thing is next year all those Rbs are back but Smith. Hawkins isn't the key, for loudon, it was the fullback getting knocked out of the game. I like Campbell, he is the key to me for loudon to do well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trashing Hawkins, he is a very very good player, however I think Tenn. is making a mistake thinking he will be successful in College as a back, hope they have other plans for him. He is fast, has great moves and vision, but when he has to run inside and tough, he runs scared! He has been that way since he played football, maybe they can do something to change that, but? The sad thing is I heard loudon fans yelling at the refs, and blaming the loss on them, lol. 38 -14 and it was the refs fault??? If anything sweetwater got the shortend on the calls/nocalls. Their was another pass interference that was very obvious and not called. An intential grouding they didn't call, terrible. The fumble by loudon close to the goal line that was recovered by a loudon player, with both legs out of bounds. But anyways congrats to the Loudon players on a nice season. Anyways congrats to sweetwater, I really love the defensive attitude I saw on the field.
  18. Not Smith and Latham. Starting Lbackers. Berrong and M. Blomstrom. Berrong is out for a while longer. Not sure about Blomstrom, may be back vs Loudon.
  19. Goodluck to Sequoyah the rest of the year, but they were never in this game! Sweetwater dominated. Never try to read to much from a scrimmage. They did it with two starting Lbs out of the game too! Same ole same ole. Cats win again.
  20. Don't judge by the jamboree, sweetwater was disappointed that McMinn Cent. backed out of the Jamboree. They wern't out there trying to show anything. If sweetwater is healthy they make it a competitive game. With two of the best players out both starting linebackers it will be much harder, but i still don't see a blowout. We will see!!!!!!
  21. Who would you say the toughest teams you have played so far are? 2 - 1 win over sweetwater isn't that impressive but I haven't seen Sweetwater play yet? Anyone can make a statement, try knowing what you are talking about when you make it. - They are a pretty good team, with just 2 seniors.
  22. You people(rnanamom) that are talking bad about Coach Davis like a few other people have said, Must not realize what kind of teams he is going against. Their have been some strong teams in 2-2A the last several years, and to be quite frank he probably did better with his teams than most would've! Saying he has had a tough job competing against the competition he faces in reg 2 is a very true statement!
  23. He is a very good player, and I would be very surprised if he doesn't go D1 or D1AA. He is not super fast, but he can run in the 4.4s. What he does do is he is 6'2" 190 and can jump like he is taller. He goes up for the ball and is capable of catching it under any circumstances, great hands. He is one of the better WR in the area, and someone is going to get a steal. I have talked to his Dad on IM and he is getting some looks from D1 thru DII, and some smaller ones. I know he was at Carson-Newman last week, and I'm not downing them in anyway but he deffinitly can play at a higher level than that! What people don't realize is that after 3 healthy years he has had some nagging injuries that have slowed him, and the trainer and coaches have kept him out of several Quarters. Nothing serious mainly a bad sprang ankle. He will be one heck of a catch for someone! And bulldog 17 are you from Wartburg? If so I believe he had 5-6 catches for around 170 yards. I know that the radio anouncers for Coffee Co. were very impressed and I believe they do or have done College games, so they might know a little something? Coffee double and tripled him, and once had four on him when they went his way. I also want to say that despite Sweetwater being down a few players, I was very very impressed with Nunley he is worth the hype! I want to say goodluck to both of these teams as they enter the play-offs!
  24. From what I know about what happened I think that their were some players that did wrong. Also someone shouldve stoped it from happening. The coach or coaches didn't exactly handle the situation right either. The players shouldve ran like the rest of the team, with Latham being the exeption if it was bothering his injury. They were wrong for that, and should be punished in some way! From what I understand everyone on the team didn't wittness the event . Some coach or coaches also didn't help things by letting one player not be punished for not running while four others were? This is such a bad time for something so minor to make such a big stink. This hurts everyone, not to mention the embarassment. Now the important thing is what are the players and the coaches gonna do to make sure this doesn't hang around and hurt the team in a couple of weeks! Things were going so good for Sweetwater lately, lets hope everything is settled quickly and the players come together and keep rolling toward the play-offs. I believe Sweetwater can beat Alcoa and make a run in the play-offs if they work together in the playoffs as a TEAM! Lets move on!
  25. All the people that are talking about the 2a school, and shouldnt be close must not have watched Sweetwater play Coffee Co. the last two years. Coffee won 21-14 last year, Sweetwater won 40 something to twenty something the year before spoiling coffees homecoming. That being said, I would pick Sweetwater to take this years game also, if they were at full strength, but I have heard something very alarming. Sweetwater will have their 3 starting rbs suspended, as well as their starting TE. Also heard another starter on defense will also be out! If this is true and I'm pretty sure it is then Coffee should be able to take this game as that would be a hard thing for any team to overcome on such short notice but a 2a team with 30 something players it will be real hard. Don't get me wrong, Sweetwater could still take this game but it would be very difficult. With these players Sweetwater wins this game, without them it would be hard not to pick Coffee Co.
