  1. Hey kappy youre a snide little arrogant primadona. If I recall MUS was putting together a good season in 2002, destroying MBA 10-1 or something like that and then we beat you in the semifinals. That was the year you all were supposed to run away with the state championship. And to add injury to insult, you lost to USN the very next day. How easy it is to forget the bad.
  2. Here's my input: Coach Kemp certainly has to be the best motivator in the TSLA. Coach Cooper has the most enthusiasm in that he isn't the most pleasant guy to be around the day after a loss. Coach Dent is the most successful. One simple reason. Coach Bloom does the most with less. Coach Bernatavitz was the worst coach in the history of coaching whether it be Badminton Women's Doubles style or his wife's lemans class. No offense to anyone left off, I've got class.

Burns is back and at full speed. Cooper has been holding him back a little bit to get his leg into condition - but considering Burns' work ethic the surgery shouldn't be a factor.
  4. It's about time BA people started acknowledging the fact that the Eagles can't hack it against the big boys. I think it's great that while Granny White Pikers are trying to drop down a classification, the gentlemen from Briarcrest can't wait for next years opening kickoff in DII-AAA. They'll certainly be a breath of fresh air. BA, get a new coach, you'll be happy and in so doing, you'll please the rest of Nashville who can't stand Flatt's Bud Kilmeresque (Varsity Blues) demeanor and pompousness. Congrats to the Owls on winning the Clinic Bowl last weekend in Memphis. Roll Red.
  5. BA was exceptional at stomping the little schools back in the day, that sure is impressive. What's more impressive is BA won both of its 5A championships with its best recruiting class ever - that was when Flatt was a better recruiter than Saban and Pete Carroll. Congratulations on your seven state championships in 2A and 3A.
  6. baseballjesus - how can you possibly say that its hard to bet against a carlton flatt team playing in a championship game? i think he has a big goose egg in the win column in his last 5 tries (i think tom moore had one clinic bowl team). im taking MUS, 16-10, no MBA fan with a heart can pull for the Eagles.
  7. what about state championships - i know ba has nine, mba has eight...winning the big one has to count for something.
  8. I wasn't quite sure if there were any sure fire locks for Mr. Football (skill or lineman) this year. I know in the past Fisher and Martin had it sewed up before the season even started with all the press they received. But this year's DII has been unpredictable and so too, it seems, are the Mr. Football candidates. Joseph Birdsong is the only guy I know will be a nominee. Any thoughts?
  9. and if ya'll wanna start talking about stats for a fullback, you need to look at the BA fullback's numbers. he's probably got more yards than those guys youve named in one game, and he's only a sophomore.
  10. MBA's Jay Pilkerton is the best fullback in town guys. Simply a man among boys when it comes to moving a linebacker out of a hole. And I feel sorry for DB's who have to catch him coming into the third tier.
  11. Enough about the happenings of the game - I had to grab another six pack for the last five minutes , thought MBA had it well in hand. Unfortunately, I had to watch this one on the tube, but didn't it seem like this game was exceptionally hard hitting tonight? Tyler Griffin putting Snyder on his back after that spin move. Birdsong (pancaking Griffin after a run to the left). Bubis. BA's No. 20 getting trap blocked every play it seemed like in the second half - if youre out there my man you took some punishment but didnt shy away from it - hats off to you. Townsend sticking Howe near the BA sidelines after a scramble. Mitchell Williams standing Ford up in the hole after a cutback. I know this rivalry usually has a handful of good pops but tonight it was noticeably more physical. I was also very glad that the hatred between these two teams was illustrated through the ferocity of tackles and blocks and not the stupidity of face-mask-grabbing and post whistle shoving matches. It was a very clean and very enjoyable game, it's the reason we're rivals baby! Go Big Red. And to all you BA kids/fans out there - how 'bout ya'll beat McCallie and we'll beat MUS and we'll make this Clinic Bowl thing our own little tradition.
  12. Gentlemen, Gentlemen, can we please settle down here. Let's look at this game pragmatically - MBA has obviously been hammered by graduation and injuries, no one should be denying that. We, The Big Red, have been spoiled the past five years having Ingle Martin and Michael Fisher taking every snap, they're tremendous athletes that knew their respective offense. So now we have a Sophomore quarterback. So does McCallie. McCallie has warriors in the trenches, but so does MBA, Birdsong and Bubis are as hard nosed as they get. It's going to be a war. The only advantage I see MBA having is in the backfield, Beckner, Snyder, Johnson, and Pilkerton are each capable of gaining 100 yards on any given night. This is the best chance McCallie has had at beating MBA since they thumped us in 2001. But enough of this sarcastic bickering. I thought being MBA and McCallie meant we left the adolescent bitching to the teams in DII that havent won a Clinic Bowl (BA, CBHS, MUS, Baylor, and Father Ryan) hahaha! We'll see you on Friday night guys, we're going to hit you in the mouth and we know youre going to hit us back. I'm looking forward to this one. GO BIG RED!
  13. I have several and they all stem from one rivalry 1995 - MBA v BA - Austin Kemp stuffs Max Fuller on a fourth down option play in overtime that sends the Eagles onward to face a mediocre Jefferson Co. team in the Clinic Bowl. 1998 - MBA v BA - Clinic Bowl - Heavily favored Brentwood Ac. sees Benji Walker's pass deflected at the line of scrimmage and picked off by senior Cole Barfield to clinch the game for the Big Red. BA needed a field goal to win. 2000 - MBA v BA - Clinic Bowl - Ingle Martin and a vaunted Big Red team narrowly escape defeat as Junior Kody Bliss's field goal sails wide. Granted it was from 50+ yds on college uprights, he was making them all year. 2003 - MBA v BA - It's hard for me to even come to grips with how those refs mismanaged that game. Nevertheless, it spoiled the Big Red's perfect season and hopes of a top 5 national ranking. We still thumped 'em in the one that counted though. HM - 2001 Clinic Bowl BA v McCallie
  14. Alright gentlemen, let's not dilute this topic with the man that quarterbacked your team within the last five years - let's have a legitimate discussion about quarterbacks that opened eyes across the state of tennessee within the past fifteen years. and while bucky fitzgerald was certainly a great athlete at pearl cohn, he doesn't fit the mold of the stereotypical quarterback. a few names im going to throw out there to get this argument going: (coming from an MBA kid once again) mr locke/mr football - riverdale's stud from the mid 1990s woody winchester - henry co.'s all american boy benji walker - (b-e-n-j-i and benji was his name-o) makes me gag to admit that one (at least i have shades of 1998 to chase it with) wardell alsup - oakland's do it all mr football finalist penn garvich - mccallie, stud, option, huge ingle martin - (see Saturday archives of 99 and 00 Tennessean to confirm) michael fisher - softest, prettiest, most adorable ball ever thrown it's out there guys, and i think ive covered the best qb's in the state for the past ten years - but im sure all of yall will try and post your nonsense compared to my genius. forgive me for my stupor. let the debate begin.
  15. gentlemen - as a young student, future headmaster, and avid follower of the tssaa, i must dictate my knowledge and opinions onto this current post. the most dominant tailback i have ever seen play inside the state of tennessee is jackson central mary's al wilson, who was an all american at ut-knoxville and is an aspiring all pro linebacker with the denver broncos. in 94 he led his team to the 5a finals despite a lack of leadership from the coaching staff and an overall consensus of talent. since i'm only twenty years old and have merely war stories from my father and his colleagues, bob latimer (mba) and john overton (common sense) are out of my realm of knowledge and therefore are uncategorizable. But in terms of being nearly impossible to stop i'd have to give that honor to the duo of kirsten biggurs and tito lee. Given, Tito was a fullback, he had the makings of an incredible college runner had tragedy not stricken his life, family, and community. Together, they made up the heart and soul of a Brentwood Academy team that was ranked inside the top 5 of USA Today's Top 25. And for an MBA kid to admit that means they were something special. the most dynamic backs to play in the past fifteen years have unquestionably been bga's troy flemming and franklin's fred lane. fast, versatile, and big, they have been without question the state's most worthy professional running backs (i never had the privilege of watching little man stewart run the ball). honorable mention includes theo townsend, gerald riggs, jonas rodriguez, ralph king, sean waller, mobly from cbhs (sorry i dont remember your first name) johnathan shaub, marion county's eric westmoreland, riverdale's alvin duke and of course clarksville northeast's travis stephens. in truth the discrepancy between class divisions limits my insight into the talents of each region. forgive me for my misgivings, thank you for your time, and i hope my limited knowledge of mt football has brightented your day/night. Thank you and goodnight.'
