  1. ####, try having to go against Joe White in practice. Also, Shawn Summers and Shaun(sp?)Williams! All during two-a-days. It was brutal!
  2. Those matchups would be great to see. I would come to Cincinnati for that. Alcoa/Mooney and Maryville/Glenville(or Colerain, Moeller, St. X, or Elder) is something we need to get started. Jlmac, you gotta hype it up for Herbstreit on jjhuddle. I agree with you, greenmachine, that it isn't very fair not to get a return trip from those teams, but, man, it would be great to see those games. Riverdale is traveling up to Louisville to take on St. X next year. That will be another good one. Warhawks, thanks for the comments. I love getting on boards like these and discussing high school football with all the knowedgeable fans out there. I do more blogging on the national boards, though(rivals, USA Today, etc.) CoachT's site is great.
  3. Seriously, all kidding aside, he was an awesome QB in high school. I played peewee ball with him at CBFO. If I remember correctly he played DE at that time. Jason Price was actually our QB. I think Price went on to play at Farragut.
  4. That would be awesome!! The dream match would've been last year against MUS. Now, that would've been a great game.
  5. That sucked for Todd Helton didn't it?
  6. Not really. Gallatin is 5A in TN. Remember that our classification system is watered down, also. TN has no business having 6 classes. OH has 742 teams playing high school football with 6 divisions, which seems appropriate to me. TN has 336 teams playing and they have 6 classes. TN should be no higher than 4A based on those facts. Gallatin would probably be placed in Division II in OH and would be, MAYBE, a top 20-25 team. So, McKinley(a Division I team) should've beaten Gallatin the way they did. So, to retort, I would have to say that Galltin has NOT been a powerhouse in TN the last few years. The powerhouse teams have been Maryville, MUS, MBA, BA, Oakland, and usually Riverdale. Of course, our best team has been Alcoa, which is a small school powerhouse that is similar to a team like Youngstown Mooney. Mooney is Division III, if I'm not mistaken, and I think it would be safe to say they could hang, if not beat, any of the Division I teams in OH. Would you agree with that? On another subject, I was kind of surprised Good Counsel beat St. X yesterday. I didn't see that one coming, especially after St. X manhandled DeMatha a few years ago. Also, I see Moeller came back to beat a good Wayne team(Mckinley's next opponent, right?)
  7. I didn't make a comment about TN football....it was about Gallatin football. Don't get me wrong, I think it was a good thing to step up and play a big school OH team like McKinley. I just thought they would be in over their heads....and they were. Gallatin will do just fine in 5A this year. I think they have a decent shot at the title if they put everything together. This experience will help them down the line. They can beat Mt. Juliet, Beech, and Columbia on their side of the bracket. The Anderson Co./Catholic winner will be tough at state.
  8. Gallatin did not play them tough at all. They got whipped! I told you before that Gallatin is not a powerhouse TN program. If you recall I said they haven't been good since the late 80s/early 90s. As a matter of fact, I believe I predicted the score to be 34-13. I think I nailed it on the head with that game. However, I am proud of them for stepping up and taking on a tradition-rich program from OH. I hope this trend continues. I am anxious to see how McKinley does against Wayne and that all everything QB. Also, congrats to your Glenville boys with their solid win over a powerhouse Warren Central team. Next up for them is FL champ Dwyer. That should be another good one.
  9. Hey, I came close at Oak Ridge when I played there. Of course, they won it all the next year....AFTER I moved out of state. That figures! You're right, calling high school teams "chumps" was out of line. I apologize for that if I offended any parents out there. That was not my intention. As I've stated before I have the utmost respect for Alcoa and Maryville and their traditions. All I'm trying to do is hype them up nationally and get TN some much deserved respect. If you're really that bent on trying to make me look bad then have at it. It's not going to change my opinion about OOS match-ups. I've watched a lot of film and seen a lot of high school games from all over the country and am pretty good at team analysis. Alcoa has been exceptional the last few years and I just want the rest of the nation to see that. It's hard to do that when you guys play a small 2A KY team and demolish them 64-0. I just wish they would play more top notch teams. I wish Maryville would've during their run, as well.
  10. It would've been a great game, but they sure as heck wouldn't have "mopped the floor" with Oak Ridge.
  11. I wasn't belittling Alcoa, I was hyping them up nationally. That is what I'm doing with Alcoa, but you can't seem to grasp it. You obviously can't have a mature discussion about the matter, so I won't waste my time with you and your cronies anymore.
  12. Well Pep, if you must know, I was a private school guy. I went to Knox Webb through middle school and early high school. I did, however, move to Oak Ridge in 1990 and played for the Wildcats. We actually had a great team that was ranked #17(USA Today) in the nation until we were upset by Oakland in the playoffs. The next year Oak Ridge traveled to KY and played Tilghman and lost. Tilghman was a top ranked big school KY team at that time. Then I moved to Virginia and went to a small private school that wasn't very good at football. Since then I have traveled the entire country(via the military) and have had the honor of watching high school football all over the country. I have been on national boards over the years and have always talked up about TN football. So, when you accuse me of not being a fan, you are sadly mistaken my friend. Notice I called you a friend, instead of a clown. I choose not to resort to such namecalling, but would rather have an educated conversation/debate with some knowledgeable fans such as yourself. So, to reiterate, I DO have the utmost respect for both Alcoa and Maryville. I am definitely a fan of both teams because I want them to both represent TN when they get the chance. I know Alcoa and Marville both would smash Oak Ridge now, but the Oak Ridge teams of the late 80s/early 90s would not have been easy for you guys to beat.
  13. Ok then. You guys just keep spending the money to travel to KY and play chump teams. All I was saying was that since your ALREADY TRAVELING you might as well play tougher teams and try and get more national recognition. If you don't care about it then I guess you don't care about it and I'll shut up. You guys can stay the big fish in the little pond.......
  14. Really? This is how you treat someone who wants ALL of TN to succeed and get better? TN is down this year nationally and, right now, Alcoa is the top team in the state. Why not show it nationally? I've always been an admirer of Alcoa's and I would love to see them face other OOS competition. So, to answer your question, yes, it is a concern of mine to see Alcoa play OOS competition and succeed. Better showings OOS bring more exposure to other good teams from TN. This will, in turn, help out our college football programs as well. We all know the Big Orange need some help these days.
  15. Actually Alcoa fans, don't listen to THIS guy. Alcoa has absolutely earned their respect locally. Now, it is time to earn that respect nationally. Why not? When you've conquered your state, which I believe Alcoa has, then you move on to greener pastures. You don't need to play 3 or 4 games OOS every year. That would be way too much money. However, their are plenty of teams from KY, GA, AL, or even NC that would play. St. X or Trinity in KY never back down. Prattville and Hoover in AL never back down. Camden Co or Buford in GA never back down. Those are just a few examples. You guys have options. Go get'em, boys! I talk you guys up on the national boards every year. Most people are impressed, but some would love to see better competition. As would I.
  16. Ok, I feel better now. I had high hopes for BA. That puts me a little more at ease.
  17. Why did Alcoa play this team? Middlesboro,KY should not have even been on the same field with a team like Alcoa. They are a 2A KY team that finished with a 4-8 record last year. That had no business playing a team the calibur of Alcoa. Alcoa crushed a top 4A team(Bell Co.) last year. I really wish they would've stepped up and played a better team to show how dominate they really are. I really think they could beat any of KY's top teams. Why not play Trinity, St. X, Highlands, or Boyle County? That would've really have gotten them noticed nationally. They could've cancelled with Middlesboro and taken on one of those aforementioned teams. Didn't Alcoa play Bell Co up there last year? If so, then cancelling out on a back-to-back traveling OOS game would not have looked that bad. If Riverdale can step up and play St. X(game scheduled next year) then Alcoa should too. Alcoa fans, fill me in...... BTW, I personally think Alcoa is the best team in TN this year. I wish they would play more OOS games, but against top teams.
  18. Maybe CPA will breeze to the playoffs this year. Ft. Campbell is a powerhouse small school from KY. They are basically KY's version of Alcoa(not saying they are as good as Alcoa, though.) A very good, solid win. Congrats on representing TN well tonight.
  19. BA 48 Kingsbury 38? What was up with that? I thought BA would CRUSH Kingsbury. Is BA not as good as many thought they would be? If they gave up 38 to Kingsbury, what will Olive Branch and MUS put on them? Somebody please tell me what happened. Did they play their 4th stringers in the 2nd half or something?
  20. Gallatin hasn't been a power in TN since the late 80s/early 90s. McKinley and Gallatin are supposed to be "up" this year, but McKinley's "up" season will be a lot stronger than Gallatin's. As I stated earlier Mckinley should have no problems with Gallatin. I'm predicting somewhere in the neighborhood of 34-13. With that being said the MBA/Moeller game was probably a more premiere game. Another game that is rarely mentioned is the St. X/Brentwood Academy game some years back. If memory serves me I think St. X won 24-17(?). That was a good game as well. Also, a 6-5 Moeller team is still a quality team. Beating St. X that year was still a quality win. St. X played a rediculous schedule that year(as they do every year.) That year's 4-6 St. X team was still a top 100-150 team in the entire nation. Remember they still beat Prattville and DBP that year. Of course, losing to LaSalle wasn't expected, either.
  21. No, the whole problem started when TN actually thought they had enough high schools to have 6 classes. Tn doesn't have enough schools for that. They should be right around 4 classes. That is why we are having these watered down playoffs. Things will continue to get worse until the T$$AA realizes that.....
  22. STA should handle Skyline pretty easily. The highlight game will be Trinity vs Shiloh Christian.
  23. Actually, Lafayette,MS is in 4A in MS. MS goes up to 6A. Lafayette made it past the state semi-finals. They lost in the state championship game to St. Stanislaus. Lafayette is a good opponent for Millington. The Trojans obviously don't back down.
  24. WOW, some idiot actually voted for Westview over Alcoa!? Okay, whatever. Also, MBA was voted in at 1st place in Div II-AA? Ensworth and BA will run away with it this year. Although, MUS fared pretty well at the National 7-on-7 tourney this year.
