USJ heads to Savannah to face the undefeated Tigers. From what I've seen from Hardin County, looks like they really throw the ball around and have a couple of playmakers at receiver. USJ has had a lot of trouble stopping the pass this year, so this matchup may favor HCHS. On the other hand, USJ has one of the best power running games and front seven in the area. Big questions are can USJ sustain long drives and keep the Tigers' O off the field? And will USJ be able to pressure the QB enough to slow down their passing game?

I wouldn't count out JCS in the west either. They beat USJ last year and look to have an explosive offense.
-
I hope the check hadn't cleared yet.

A couple of minutes in, this one looked like we'd have a running clock by halftime. Credit to Union City. They fought the whole game and were able to put together several drives and eat up the clock. Good luck to y'all the rest of the season. Nice showing by USJ, though still some areas for improvement. QB sure looks confident throwing the ball deep, and we have the athletes to make plays. As dominant as the running game has been, we'll definitely need that to keep the top teams honest.

14-0 USJ after the first. USJ has scored both possessions quickly, but Union City put together a nice little drive to run some clock out. UC having some success on the sweeps but probably won't be enough.

Haven't seen anything from Union City yet, but they're obviously a great program with a ton of history. The strength of this year's USJ team is in the trenches. They have two Mr. Football type players on the line and size at every position. On offense they have a strong running game with #25 Steele Haynes being the primary runner, and he can scoot. Pass defense and offense are a work in progress for USJ as the Goodpasture game showed. Goodpasture had a scrambling QB who was able to buy time and keep the sticks moving. USJ gave up four big passing plays for touchdowns, and not much else, but that was enough. The offensive passing game was plagued by drops and tipped balls. Though credit has to go to Goodpasture as they smothered all the intermediate routes all night and were able to pressure the USJ QB. There are some young but very talented players out there getting their first action. On paper, USJ is the favorite, though the probably were last week too. What are UC's strengths this year? This is a fun matchup.

Should've known you TCA posters were sandbagging us! Sounds like a nice showing by the Lions.

Fun game. That Goodpasture QB is a gamer. Sloppy performance by USJ, and the schedule doesn't get any easier with Union City coming into town next week. We've got the size and speed, but you can't make unforced errors and beat good teams! Liked the call to go for two at the end and win or lose behind your O-line. They just came up a little short. Congrats to Goodpasture!

Is Swinea playing in college anywhere? He was a great one.

BPM wasn't sandbagging! This broadcast is amazing. Kudos to Worthy Road Studios. Almost 900 people watching right now!

Wow, that's a big time matchup. Very tough schedule for USJ this year (well, depending on how covid plays out). Don't know anything about Goodpasture yet other than they're historically a good program and lost their coach Tyler Turner (ex Liberty coach) to Jackson Prep (MS).

They’ve looked stout in preseason for sure. I think they will ultimately have to open up the offense more than we've seen to get past the top teams, but obviously it's preseason. I hear it's a down year for TCA. Any word on how FA, JCS and others have looked? I wonder if the Memphis teams have had any transfers with football being cancelled last year.

Who are the favorites? Who's looking good in fall camp? Almost football time! Here are the new regions: East Region Friendship Christian, Grace Baptist, Lakeway Christian, Middle Tennessee Christian School, The King's Academy, The Webb School (Bell Buckle) Middle Region Clarksville Academy, Columbia Academy, Donelson Christian Academy, Grace Christian (Franklin), Mt. Juliet Christian, Nashville Christian West Region Fayette Academy, First Assembly Christian School, Harding Academy, Jackson Christian, Tipton-Rosemark, Trinity Christian Academy, University School of Jackson

Nice showing by USJ. They are big and fast. USJ had the edge up front, but every yard on Peabody's D was still a grind. Wouldn't surprise me if Peabody is a much better team in week 5 once that passing attack has time to gel.
-
They will if Saban calls Thought no-tackle QB is fairly common in scrimmages, especially for pass heavy offenses. Obviously Simpson doing so much on the move makes things a little different, but that's the best work imaginable for your defense.

My 2 cents is that this year's DA team could have been in the mix in AA, though not last year's. CPA and Lipscomb both are a little bit better, but 2020 DA was that good. Frankly, when I was watching the 5A final last night I thought both DA and USJ could compete with those teams.
-
Good game. The turnovers hurt but bottom line DA was just the better team. USJ left it all on the field which is all you can really ask. Hard to believe we're 0-8 in these things! I'd say we're due for a winning streak now. Congratulations to DA on the three peat!

What a play by Tabor! My goodness. That was a great dive to hit the pylon.
-
Put some gorilla glue on those gloves! Let's go USJ!
-
7-0 USJ! Way to come out of the chute.
-
Hope springs eternal! USJ will have to play their best game of the year to beat DA, and you never know they just might. We were missing a couple of horses last time who will be back in action. Just leave it all on the field! Good luck and safe travels to everyone!

Dominant performance by USJ's O line in the second half. #13 is a special back for DCA, and they put up a ton of fight. Just too much size up front for the Bruins. Now onto the big Bears...
-
I'm just glad this game is at DCA instead of USJ. I believe Chris Wooden is still running on Kirkland Field 17 years later! I watched some clips of the TCA game. This is a pretty close matchup. USJ has a slight edge up front, but DCA will have the best playmaker on the field - especially with #1 out for USJ. Think this is a toss up! Hoping for a great game and safe travels!
-
Very nice win for Trinity. #2 and #15 were both running really hard and making defenders miss. O line was firing off the ball. You can tell the whole team is playing with a lot more confidence in the new offense. Continually impressed with Butler's ability to tinker with his team until he finds a way to be effective. It also takes good kids to buy in and change on the fly. Congrats to the Lions!

DA is legit. It sure looks like they are head and shoulders above the rest of the division this year. This team would be in the mix in DII-AA. USJ had the right game plan. Throw some different looks at them and try to take a quick lead. The injury to #24 took the wind out of their sails and they couldn't quite capitalize on a couple other opportunities. Realistically, they needed to put up 17-21 points at the start but got 9. We knew about DA's running game and the extra element with the passing attack this year, but I was mega impressed with DA's defense. It looked like they were doing college level stuff with their blitzes and coverages. What a well-coached team with great talent out there executing. Even though we were on the wrong end, you still have to appreciate excellence when you see it. One takeaway for USJ here, I thought they got a bit demoralized when #24 got hurt and the momentum turned. Heads down and shoulders slumped, that sort of thing. Not every game will always go your way but you've always got to give it your full fight til the final buzzer. I'd bet Coach Stroup noticed that too and will make a point of it. That's one of those life lessons that comes in handy later on. Congrats to DA on an excellent team!
