  1. East and Middle TN football just on a totally different level from West in this era.
  2. Good list as always BPM. I always try to find something to nitpick for the sake of conversation but rarely can. Funny how we’re all the way through the regular season and there’s still some teams on here we’re not sure about and have questionable wins and losses. Agree that that kind of parity means West Tenn ball is strong this year.
  3. JCM has got some big boys up front and some great playmakers. They probably need another year or two to get that overall team depth to compete at the highest level. Hope they can keep it going. Good JCM football is a lot of fun.
  4. Here is Trey Smith’s senior highlights. It’s 7 minutes of him throwing normal high school football players around like rag dolls. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/3994744/589b3bf6041d6d2180ebb6ff This is what future NFL players look like. Comparing other kids to that is absurd and creates hugely unrealistic expectations that soon lead to big letdowns.
  5. My call for a DII-AAAA division was sarcasm, Booger. Maybe the wifi signal is getting a bit scrambled down in the holler? Kublah jus sayin.
  6. We need a DII-AAAA class and state championship just for boarding schools.
  7. By the way is there a stream or recording anywhere of the Milan JCM game? Would love to watch some film on that one.
  8. Great win by USJ this week as well. South Gibson came out flying around and punched USJ in the mouth, but the Bruins came back in the second half with their backup QB and won with a FG in overtime. Was really impressed with how USJ adjusted to the level of physicality and started laying the lick as the game went on. South Gibson has a good team. They are big and fast.
  9. I actually do think there are three different types of programs in DII. Big difference between the classes. In DI it’s probably more like 4 or maybe 5 levels of competition. Our state just doesn’t have enough schools to fill in all those classes. If we were just talking about the best competition it’d be something like 4-5 classes with everyone together and maybe a multiplier on the privates. But anyway, moot point, if the state keeps growing we’ll have another super team class before long, and maybe sanctioned 8 man football as well.
  10. That’s a fantasy. The publics will have ten championships before they go back to three.
  11. As much as it pains me, I wouldn’t be surprised to see JCS sneak back in there as the year goes on. USJ did dominate them upfront, but the weather played to the Bruins advantage. USJ made two goal line stands, and JCS still had a chance to score at the end. It seems like Mosley is still getting back into form. If they can start getting the ball to him more (and if he plays defense again?) they’ll be a different team in November.
  12. BPM can’t fool me sand bagging Milan like that
  13. Obviously I want to stir the pot a little, but I think USJ wins big over TCA. Peabody and Union City are both probably better than TCA this year, and both games were blowouts. TCA's skill players are serious talents though, so it wouldn't surprise me to see them put up some early points and give the Bruins a scare, but I think USJ is just on another level with their team size, speed and depth. They look the part of a really good DII-AA team this year. Of course, this rivalry is as crazy as they get, and you know the Lions will bring their A effort and game plan.
  14. Yeah yeah boohoo it’s been about two decades since we got multiplied and we’ve been in D2 the last 15 years. Move on with your life. That’s more time passed than we spent dominating West Tenn 1A. And let me correct you on a couple things — 1.) Bruceton had some good and great teams back then 2.) You left off that we also kicked JCS’s butt every year!!
  15. There’s not enough talent in the Jackson area to compete with what a CPA or Lipscomb or whoever can get together. Maybe if they want to start running a bus from Brownsville. We’ve got two in the NFL right now and might add a third next year, so it’s not like we’re in the desert. But with Nashville being a high growth destination city the private schools there will be able to pick and choose who they let in while maintaining the same enrollment for a while. It’s not just the top end talent but also a lot of the “role players” CPA has looked like they could play small school college ball. Maybe if Jackson charter schools ever happen we can get one of those coop arrangements rolling like Lausanne used to kickstart their program
  16. CPA was on a totally different level of course, but going 7-5 with a playoff win was a nice season for a young, rebuilding Bruins team with a new coach. The reality is it’s unlikely we’ll ever be able to beat the best out of the Nashville area in AA with how Nashville has grown, but we should be in the mix for the region championship most years in the West.
  17. If Mosley was on my team, I’d want him to get 50+ touches per game. Just my two cents!!
  18. Great list, BPM. Shout out to Milan for being 4-0. Wouldn’t have bet that in the preseason but you never can count out them Dawgs. I think JCS is very worthy as well. They have a future SEC player in Mosley, other good playmakers and a line that got push against a much bigger Goodpasture squad on the road in Nashville then whipped USJ. They’ve proven it on the field.
  19. Realistically this USJ team has already overperformed what Bruins fan expectations were this year. I think we can count on a good game plan and the kids playing hard for four quarters. JCS has a heck of a team this year, and Mosley is as good as anyone who has come out of this area in the last few years. Hope we get to see another classic tonight. Go Bruins!
  20. Have to confess that this year’s JCS team is a lot of fun to watch. Several weapons and a QB that can move around and drop a dime from anywhere. Mosley is unreal. He’s got some of the best route running I’ve ever seen in a high school receiver. The line is undersized but they fire off the ball well. That said I don’t think they are unbeatable by any stretch. Key for USJ will probably be executing a similar game plan as against TCA - run the ball, control the clock and get enough key stops on defense. I do think the Bruins have a slight advantage at the line of scrimmage on both sides. JCS will get their yards and points though. Mosley can flip field position at any moment. I think this will be a close one and may come down to special teams. USJ won’t be able to make the mistakes on special teams they have so far this season and win this one IMO.
  21. Nine points! The gritty Bruins grind out another one. Lots of stuff to work on, but this is my favorite USJ team in a while. 300 yards rushing for the Bruins. #5 ran brilliantly, and #1 had some fine runs as well. O line was getting push all night and getting blocks downfield too. Nice to see the passing game has turned a corner. TCA played their butts off too. Much improved Lions squad this year.
  22. Maybe they should call this one the JEA Bowl? I hear the USJ Super Boosters are raising funds to suspend a second Sun over Kirkland Field to make sure the mighty Bruins never have to worry about losing a game due to darkness
  23. Looks like TCA has made some big strides already. As others have said this USJ coaching staff has been super impressive with what they’ve got going with this squad. Very exciting. I think the Bruins will have too much overall team size and speed for the Lions in the end and are probably like a 9 point favorite. USJ’s defense has been tough since the first snap of the season , and their offense found some things in the second half of the Union City game. #1 for TCA is a beast though and so is the receiver. Lions will make some plays I bet. Real weapons on Windy City! Expecting a great game and lights out performances from both teams
  24. I thought they went for two to try to force USJ to score and get the two as well. Personally as a USJ fan I was hoping UC would kick the extra point after the way y’all had sliced up our D on that drive, but the Bruins made a big stop when they had to. It seemed like the Bruins had more energy in the tank in the fourth quarter. The fumbles from UC were definitely a surprise. Probably the one thing missing from UC is to figure out a way to mix it up on offense a bit more. #5 is a beast but getting a speedster with the ball in space or some sort of big play threat would help.
