  1. Yeah yeah boohoo it’s been about two decades since we got multiplied and we’ve been in D2 the last 15 years. Move on with your life. That’s more time passed than we spent dominating West Tenn 1A. And let me correct you on a couple things — 1.) Bruceton had some good and great teams back then 2.) You left off that we also kicked JCS’s butt every year!!
  2. There’s not enough talent in the Jackson area to compete with what a CPA or Lipscomb or whoever can get together. Maybe if they want to start running a bus from Brownsville. We’ve got two in the NFL right now and might add a third next year, so it’s not like we’re in the desert. But with Nashville being a high growth destination city the private schools there will be able to pick and choose who they let in while maintaining the same enrollment for a while. It’s not just the top end talent but also a lot of the “role players” CPA has looked like they could play small school college ball. Maybe if Jackson charter schools ever happen we can get one of those coop arrangements rolling like Lausanne used to kickstart their program
  3. CPA was on a totally different level of course, but going 7-5 with a playoff win was a nice season for a young, rebuilding Bruins team with a new coach. The reality is it’s unlikely we’ll ever be able to beat the best out of the Nashville area in AA with how Nashville has grown, but we should be in the mix for the region championship most years in the West.
  4. If Mosley was on my team, I’d want him to get 50+ touches per game. Just my two cents!!
  5. Great list, BPM. Shout out to Milan for being 4-0. Wouldn’t have bet that in the preseason but you never can count out them Dawgs. I think JCS is very worthy as well. They have a future SEC player in Mosley, other good playmakers and a line that got push against a much bigger Goodpasture squad on the road in Nashville then whipped USJ. They’ve proven it on the field.
  6. Realistically this USJ team has already overperformed what Bruins fan expectations were this year. I think we can count on a good game plan and the kids playing hard for four quarters. JCS has a heck of a team this year, and Mosley is as good as anyone who has come out of this area in the last few years. Hope we get to see another classic tonight. Go Bruins!
  7. Have to confess that this year’s JCS team is a lot of fun to watch. Several weapons and a QB that can move around and drop a dime from anywhere. Mosley is unreal. He’s got some of the best route running I’ve ever seen in a high school receiver. The line is undersized but they fire off the ball well. That said I don’t think they are unbeatable by any stretch. Key for USJ will probably be executing a similar game plan as against TCA - run the ball, control the clock and get enough key stops on defense. I do think the Bruins have a slight advantage at the line of scrimmage on both sides. JCS will get their yards and points though. Mosley can flip field position at any moment. I think this will be a close one and may come down to special teams. USJ won’t be able to make the mistakes on special teams they have so far this season and win this one IMO.
  8. Nine points! The gritty Bruins grind out another one. Lots of stuff to work on, but this is my favorite USJ team in a while. 300 yards rushing for the Bruins. #5 ran brilliantly, and #1 had some fine runs as well. O line was getting push all night and getting blocks downfield too. Nice to see the passing game has turned a corner. TCA played their butts off too. Much improved Lions squad this year.
  9. Maybe they should call this one the JEA Bowl? I hear the USJ Super Boosters are raising funds to suspend a second Sun over Kirkland Field to make sure the mighty Bruins never have to worry about losing a game due to darkness
  10. Looks like TCA has made some big strides already. As others have said this USJ coaching staff has been super impressive with what they’ve got going with this squad. Very exciting. I think the Bruins will have too much overall team size and speed for the Lions in the end and are probably like a 9 point favorite. USJ’s defense has been tough since the first snap of the season , and their offense found some things in the second half of the Union City game. #1 for TCA is a beast though and so is the receiver. Lions will make some plays I bet. Real weapons on Windy City! Expecting a great game and lights out performances from both teams
  11. I thought they went for two to try to force USJ to score and get the two as well. Personally as a USJ fan I was hoping UC would kick the extra point after the way y’all had sliced up our D on that drive, but the Bruins made a big stop when they had to. It seemed like the Bruins had more energy in the tank in the fourth quarter. The fumbles from UC were definitely a surprise. Probably the one thing missing from UC is to figure out a way to mix it up on offense a bit more. #5 is a beast but getting a speedster with the ball in space or some sort of big play threat would help.
  12. This USJ team has got grit. If you would have told me five minutes into this game that they’d win, I would’ve bet you whatever you wanted. Looks like they found some things on offense in the second half. Great win by USJ!
  13. Good list BPM. I would go ahead and drop Haywood way down and flip USJ and Union City, but I get why you haven’t. The latter will get sorted out this week anyway. Can’t quite throw them in the honorable mention after a loss, but I think Peabody will make some noise before this season is over with. They have size, speed and are well-coached. The cupboard is not bare in Trenton.
  14. Union City is the favorite here. It’s tough to tell from the Ensworth game, but they’re likely better this year than last. As others have said, this year’s USJ team doesn’t have the talent of the past few years. But they have looked very sharp and disciplined so far. Very impressive considering there’s only a few players out there with any experience and all in a new system. One thing I do like for USJ in this matchup is how physical their secondary played against Peabody. Just not sure if the passing game is in sync enough yet to put up the points you’ll need, especially in the second half as UC’s size, speed and style of play takes its toll. The new USJ coach was previously the defensive coordinator at Ensworth, by the way. Really looking forward to this one!
  15. If Union City upsets Ensworth, even the aliens watching us from Alpha Centauri will be shocked.
  16. Union City needs to win the coin toss then chew up the entire first half with their opening drive. Probably ends with a running clock no matter what but would love to see y’all turn some heads by keeping at close for longer than expected.
  17. I’m not sure what “life lesson” you learn from sitting on the sideline thanks to an August transfer other than a lifelong resentment of the private school which will be sending you letters asking for donations and then expecting your children to attend in just a few short years.
  18. I’m willing to go out on a limb and drop Haywood way down already. They’ll win some games off talent and muddle through the season. But well, enough has already been said elsewhere about their issues. Wish the new coach good luck. Who knows how things will shake it in Brownsville in the coming years with Ford coming to town. Nice to see USJ included. Was super impressed with them last night. I was anticipating a down year after losing their coach and almost every starter on both sides of the ball. Doesn’t look like they’re going to skip a beat. Tough schedule but they’ll be in the mix. They looked like a DII-AA team last night. I thought Milan looked good on defense last night. Couldn’t quite get a read on their offense yet, but that’s also a credit to USJ’s D. There were some big boys up front for the Bulldogs. Seems like Peabody is down this year? Noticed their absence from the top 10 and haven’t seen any Golden Tide threads. USJ opens with them next week and wondering what to expect. BPM I’ll chime in more on the list once we see some scores. Always fun to have you run these threads. P.S. I’ll go out on another limb and say Trinity ends up hanging around your list before years end.
  19. They could just simplify everything and do European soccer style promotion and relegation. Top 10% of teams move up, bottom 10% move down every year. Could do this with all classes and schools together. Winning the biggest trophy brings the most prestige. Obviously this will never happen, but it’s a proven competitive model across multiple sports and countries.
  20. Great hire by Trinity. Y’all won’t skip a beat.
  21. Great hire by ECS. Will be interesting to see what Coach Butler can do with a bigger roster. He almost always found a way to compete at TCA, even in down years with few upperclassmen. With that said…
  22. Sounds like a good hire with some local connections! Don’t know if there are any Ensworth posters on here to chime in? Congrats to Coach Pritchard and welcome aboard.
  23. Rusty Bradley came for one year while we had the #1 player in the country and college coaches visiting every week and watching our film... I think Stroup was here five or six years. That’s not a bad tenure. Marley was here for like 25 years or so before that. I think everybody would love a coach to stay forever and win 9-10 games every season, but the risk of hiring talented and ambitious coaches is they want to keep moving their way higher in their profession. The job Stroup took (6A in Middle TN) is no cake walk.
  24. The “Daddy’s” stuff is overrated at USJ. Guess what everybody’s Dad is someone there. Compare that to small towns where you might have just one or two influential families controlling things. Sure there is pressure to win but that’s true of any good program. Same as Milan. Stroup is a solid coach, but USJ won before and will win after. Even bumping up we should be in the mix for a region championship next year.
  25. Sorry Booger sometimes us West Tennessee Lowlanders have difficulties properly comprehending the subtler delicacies of your fine mountain dialects. Probably owing to different migration waves from the Old World…Macbeth, Northumbria, Maldoc’s Lost Tribe of Welshmen and that sort of thing…Kublah just saying!
