  1. Webb ought to go D1AAA and cut out the crazy travel; there is no way they should be playing McCallie, MBA, ans BA.
  2. The present 1.8 formula for playing with public schools seems like a fair compromise. Knox Catholic did this and are competitve, get bigger gates, and don't have to travel to the far corners of Tennessee. Wish we (Webb) had done that. We have very few scholarship players and have no business playing the likes of MBA, MUS, and Briacrest.
  3. I think that JP2 and ECS fight for first, Webb and BGA for third, much like JP2fan. ECS has really won AA for two years since Briarcrest is now AAA. BGA is due to come back after two down years. Webb has a lot of new players.
  4. Both teams showed a lot of heart. Webb had a 95-yard drive in the fourth quarter to go ahead and West answered that with their own drive. Webb's rushing attach was very good in spite of lot of new players. Ryan was very impressive. He should have been throwing a jump ball on the last play instead of the throw off the reverse. I'd be for delaying the start of week 0 until the next weekeend. It is too hot in mid-August.
  5. Webb's entire starting backfield, split end, and tight end graduated. They have three trips to Nasville and one to Memphis in the regular season. Untested players are going to have to come through for them to succeed.
  6. Predicted good weather should help Golden Tate, JP2's passing, and Webb's running backs. Just as last year, forget Webb's first win. Webb had a 30-7 lead but almost squandered it. Webb 24 - JP2 21.
  7. A ref did throw a flag at the 3 minute mark and walked off five yards against ECS but not for delay of game. The refs were correct to start the clock since they hadn't called delay of game, although they should have as 50 seconds had elapsed from the end of the last play. My understanding is that if ECS had committed another illegal procedure or whatever, it would be interpreted as delay of game to prevent a team from deliberately killing the clock this way.
  8. This doesn't seem fair. The offensive team should not be able to kill the clock by commiting a penalty like false start or delay of game. If so, they could continue to accept these penalties to run out the clock. It doesn't work this way in college or the pros.
  9. In last night's Webb-ECS game, ECS had the ball at their own 41 with fourth and two after a running play. There was 3:50 left in the game. At approximately 3:00 the ref threw a flag as ECS was in punt formation, but it was not for delay of game. It was for false start against ECS. So, ECS is penalized 5 yards and goes back in punt formation but the clock continues to run for maybe 15 seconds. The refs call time, huddle, start the clock again and ECS goes into punt formation again and fifteen seconds later they punt. So, approximately 1 minute 20 seconds were taken off the clock on a punt. Could a team deliberately commit false starts to kill the clock? How about a delay of game? Does that stop the clock? Ironically, the punt was returned to the ECS 3-yard line but was called back for holding.
  10. TSSAA site has been updated the schedule for D-II, much as described here.
  11. For Div II-AA, TSSAA site has same schedule posted as last year but there are only six teams. Will only four qualify? If so, what week will be an off week. How will home field be decided for the first round? What happens if BGA beats Harding Academy next weekend - who goes to the playoffs?
  12. What is a "victory squat" mentioned in this report? http://www.timesfreepress.com/sports/preps/stories/sf3.asp
  13. Webb had more yards passing than running: 137 versus 112.
  14. A big win for Powell. The Knoxville News-Sentinel didn't take the trouble to report on the game. There was nothing about it this morning except the score.
  15. dhack - agree on the long trip for Harding Academy. Webb must travel to ECS on Oct 28. That is 367 miles according to Google Maps. Of couse, ECS did that last year in the tournament. JP2 travelled to Webb last Friday sans cheerleaders. If gas cost stays high, that may be another reason for private schools to go public like Knox. Catholic. What about D-II AA tournament. There are only 6 teams + Ensworth who is building a program. Will there just be two rounds with the top four teams?
  16. Kevin Campbell is player of the week as Webb wins 13-12. Who would have believed such a low scoring game.
  17. Yes, really hot. After very slow start, French's 75-yard touchdown run in second quarter got Webb going. Lots of fumbles.

    Webb At JP2

In first Webb-JP2 game, Tate caught a pass for a TD and scored on a long run to ice it. He also played great D, stopping us on fourth and one and intercepting a pass in the endzone. I didn't see him oin D Friday. He's the best player in the eastern half of our div.

    ND WINS!

ND and Caholic split two games. So did Webb and JP2. Webb - Cathhoilc game was decided on last play. BGA won it all last year. I know the travel is a problem, but it is a shame that this group is breaking up next year.
  20. Catholic won by advancing a fumble for a touchdown on the last play. How about an online version of the TSSAA football rules? What is the NCAA rule on advancing fumbles?
  21. Mcfadden was a factor on defense. Was he out with cramps when Webb scored the two TDs?
  22. Webb had 0 punts and 1 turnover but drives always bogged down.
  23. Oops. Earl Nall's site http://earlnall.com/index.cfm shows Webb ahead in the series 7-2; that includes two playoff victories for Webb.
  24. Webb is ahead in the series 5-2 (since 1997.) Hope it becomes 6-2.
