  1. ELA, this is true but it also goes back to the situation where I asked for your input on eligibility rights of male vs. female athletes. Volleyball and tennis vs. football and basketball. They really need to change alot of the guidelines.
  2. Let`s take for instance a kid in Jackson TN (entering the 9th grade)that is zoned for Southside. His parents really want him to go to Liberty Tech Magnet where they have one of the best technologyprograms in the stae. After one year, the kid says I really don`t like Liberty. I`d rather go back to Southside where all my old friends are. The parents, realizing how much trouble it is just getting their kid from one side of the county to the other, agree. The kid asks the school board for a transfer back to his zoned school and the grant it. Now there is no way that the TSSAA should punish this kid . The transfer rule is horrible. Just let kids go where their school systems says its OK for them to go and forget about it. VG, I know of a real life situation that really shows how bad the rule is. (You may know of it) This one kid transferred to a particular school during 9th grade. Being he transferred, he sat out football season in 10th grade which is what was expected. While there, he discovered he didn't enjoy the surrondings and in 11th grade, transferred to another school. He was lead to believe that everything was ok, but 2 days before football season started, TSSAA ruled him ineligible for 11th grade as well. Why? Because he wanted to keep in shape and played JV basketball in 10th grade. Playing on the JV level in a totally different sport rules him ineligible? 2 years the TSSAA kept him from playing football. Was the transfer rule enforced here to actually serve the purpose that it was intended for? I think not. All's he has left is his Senior year to maybe earn a scholarship which we know is very hard to do. Now if this kid was a marginal athlete it would be a terrible thing to have happen. What makes it worse, this kid is the best reciever I have ever seen (6' 3 1/2, 180, 4.5-40) and I don't throw compliments out that often.
  3. Just wondering. The TSSAA is the governing body of all sports in TN. The transfer rule states that if you participate in any "one" of these sports: football, baseball, basketball, or track and field-and you transfer schools, you are ineligible to play in "all" of those listed for a period of one year. However, if you particpate in tennis, volleyball, soccer, golf or bowling and you transfer, you are only ineligible for one year in the " one" sport that you participated in. I'm not a lawyer but if you look at the make-up of the students involved in those sports, percent of male vs. female and minority participation, it weighs out that female and non-minority athletes (and they all should be considered athletes no matter what sport they play) have alot more access to participation after they transfer versus their counterparts. Title IX states that each athlete should have equal access to participation, regardless of sex and was established to protect the rights of female athletes. But it also protects the rights of all athletes including males. Does this not violate that right? Is it legal to assume that if an athlete is a football player, he would jump to another school to play basketball before a volleyball player would jump to another school to play tennis?(Note most Volleyball programs are female, all football programs are male). ELA, give me your thoughts on this.

    DCA @ USJ

You sound like an upset JCS fan thats just mad at USJ for beating them twice. I may be wrong but thats what it sounds like. 825452952[/snapback] That may be rebel, but I am an " upset JCS fan." To come so close twice and lose would make any fan upset. However, I for one have nothing but respect for both programs and would like to see a good close game. If USJ stays with DCA I would hope to think we are the third best team in the state. Good Luck to both teams.

    JCS@USJ

1999? Living in the past is what USJ wants to do because they hate to admit that JCS actually can compete with them all-round athletically. I hate the fact that they are moving up to 2A because the rivalry is great for Jackson. I do hope that they can schedule non-region against each other. Tonight it doesn't get any better than this. Could be for the last time in a long time so enjoy it!
  6. Buschman, Probably the best thing that could have happened is JCS losing that game. Last year when they beat USJ, in their minds they were done. They had accomplished that feat and it was hard to get up for the play-offs. What could be better than beating USJ? They came out flat against Greenfield in the 1st round and didn't get it going until the second half. Then they ended up in the 2nd round losing to Fayette Academy when they really shouldn't have.(no disrespect to FA) This year going in they have a chip on their shoulder losing the way they did and would love nothing more than to get a rematch with USJ. They know that they are taking the harder path having to play Bruceton and WC and are preparing for it. With that said, the JCS defense has to contain Willis which is not an easy task. I hope your assessment of the game is correct.
  7. Ctshizzle, you forgot on your list that the #3 team in the STATE is playing the #5 team in the state in their classification. And they, like you said are rivals only 2 miles away from each other. Great game. Also Kublah, did USJ have 5 ints against McNairy? I lost count when I was watching it. Youre right, USJ's secondary is very good.
  8. Good post rebel. By the way, it was I who said that Bishop Byrne was tough. Maybe I got the wrong info or maybe they got better after you left. When JCS scheduled them for 2003-2004 BB was 9-2 in 2001 and 10-2 in 2002. Some of those teams they beat were D11AA. JCS had their hands full with them in 2003 winning 34-28. That team was very athletic and flew all over the field. This year though, they went in the tank. I wasn't aware that they were awful in the 90's. But back to your point, 2 great programs going at it friday night, and it will be a treat. Go Eagles
  9. JCS heard the "welcome to 3A football" comments last week at Dyer County. They were going to show JCS what 3A ball was all about. 35-7 JCS in a cakewalk. 3A ball is off this year. I saw the USJ-McNairy game and McNairy was terrible. West Carrol would have destroyed them (JCS beat WC). The QB was just too small and must have thrown 5 ints that night. Against other 3A teams though he threw for over 1000 yards and had his way. That makes me question the competition at 3A. But I will give USJ credit for their 7-6 win @SS. But if you are connected with SS, you well know how bad JCS made you look in scrimmages so don't be so sure you know what will happen Friday. By the way, we scheduled DCA and lost. They are better than any team mentioned above and when you add private powerhouse Bishop Byrne (who is having an off year) , that is not a weak schedule. Refer to all the power rankings. It's all there.
  10. Really, wow that could hurt Milan's program worse than USJ moving up to 2A. In fact, if you look at it from a convienence and economic standpoint, it may just be a better idea to have those kids who are zoned out from Milan attend USJ or JCS. Don't have to move, pay higher taxes, pay real estate fees and move away from the neighborhood. With all those houses on the market, they surely will decrease in value. And who knows, maybe they can't get rid of their house by next year. Simple solution! USJ or JCS may have some new students. Notice I didn't say recruits. Westtn2004, my point was why hasn't anyone whined about that advantage that Milan has had for years over other publics? All you heard about was USJ and JCS recruiting while Milan was actually doing it.
  11. guess your right... incase you forgot, its good to have money, not a bad thing
  12. JCS beat PC worse, and beat teams by as much as USJ has or more, region title game next week, should be a good one; but shouldnt overlook riverside, i still believe USJ has the upper hand and will win by 2 TDs or so
  13. Divepix, Thanks for doing the research. Some of these posts have nothing to back statements up but you do a good job. USJ has a great program and they have been winning for so long that it's only natural to mention them as a contender out of the west. Other than JCS, the only other team that would even be able to play with these two teams out of the West would be West Carroll. Huge offensive line and tough rbs.
  14. [quote name=divepix' date='Oct 17 2004 Region 6 MP / WC -#1 and 2 depending on their game outcome - probably MP #1 Huntland - will probably end up #3 Cascade - will probably end up #4 Only potential first round upset would be Davidson over Wayne County. Don't think Ezell can beat MP at MP. 2nd round MP plays at home against Region 5 winner from round 1, either DCA or CPA. Will be great game. Other 2nd round game will be DA or MC against DCA or CPA. 3rd round I believe it will be DCA/CPA/MP combination. 4th round Winner of above against USJ Divepix, Not so fast my friend. Everyone expects USJ to represent the west on the performance of JCS vs DCA. I can assure you JCS will not turn the ball over 6 times like they did against DCA. Not to take anything away from DCA as they are great but JCS is still mad they didn't give them a better game. Good luck this weekend in the CPA/DCA game. Tune in on Oct. 29th as we have a similair match up with USJ/JCS. If USJ wins, your prediction will be correct, but until they do, its a toss up.
