  1. Lexington is not playing Dyer county, they are playing Seymour. Lexington just tied the game in the 4th.
  2. I would definitely put this in the must win category. Good luck to the Big Red Tigers.
  3. USJ takes 2-1 lead in 4th. Goodpasture still 2-0 over Lexington in 4th.
  4. Marshall County leads USJ 1-0 in 4th. Goodpasture leads Lexington 2-0 in 3rd.
  5. "Dying ain't much of a living, boy". Everytime I get to liking somebody, they ain't around long. When you get to disliking somebody, they ain't around long, either.
  6. Both pitchers threw 7 inning shutouts against excellent teams and both deserved to win. MC was able to push one across in 9th and win. Great game dominated by 2 great pitchers that could have went either way. MC made that extra play (or hit) that they had to make. Congrats to MC and to Bolivar on great seasons. And hats off to both pitchers for treating everyone to a great game.
  7. Good luck to all. Bring us back 2 or 3 ships to West Tennessee.
  8. They split 2 games during regular season and Bolivar defeated Lexington in District Championship game. Lexington used their #1 pitcher yesterday and Bolivar (I think) used their #1 and #2 guy--not sure how much each pitched. Score in District Championship game was 14-12 and Lexington scored 9 and Bolivar 8 in regional semi's yeaterday, so probably will be a high scoring game. Pretty evenly matched teams, Bolivar will be at home, could go either way.
  9. Congrats to John Wills (and the rest of the Bruins).
  10. This is a district that the top 4 teams played mostly low scoring games against each other in regular season, the 3-2, 2-1, 4-2, 5-0 type games. In District tournament the scores were 14-12, 18-11, 15-11, 9-5 games in last 4 games. The field is small for a high school field, but it was small for all teams, It just favored the teams with the most 320 fly ball hitters. Maybe it as the hot weather, the wind that caused the ball to be jumping, but everything that got up seemed to go out. And not all runs were home runs, there were the walks and HBP's and hits that preceded the home runs. I know Liberty only played 3 games and hit as many HR's as they did in regular season and gave up more home runs than they did in regular season in over 30 games. But all teams had the same advantages and disadvantages. Good luck to Bolivar and Lexington in regionals.
  11. I watched a game there yesterday and saw 7 hit in one game. One was a no doubter. The rest stay in most parks.
  12. Bolivar advances to championship game with 18-11 victory over Liberty. Bolivar hit 5 home runs including grand slam and 3 run home run by Ervin. Marbury hit 2 home runs for Liberty. Bolivar has handed Liberty 3 of their 9 losses this year. Liberty faces Lexington in elimination game today with winner playing Bolivar tommorrow in championship (1st game and if necessary game both tommorrow).
  13. It was 2. Just seems odd with 740+ home runs to have won only 2 home run titles.
  14. What about the year he hit 73 /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  15. If you watched Sunday night Baseball tonight you should know this one. Babe Ruth won 12 Home Run titles in his career and Hank Aaron only won 4. How many did Bonds win? And the guy with the most hits in the 80's was listed in VG's question in the thread above.
  16. Lexington and South Side play at 2:30 today. Liberty and Bolivar are in finals of winner's bracket, play Monday at 2:00 at Lexington--early start time due to graduation Monday night.
  17. Greetings District 12AA guy here Since we are in different parts of the state that hook up for regionals and really don't know each other (which is different from most region tourneys) thought I'd drop by and see what was going on in 11 AA. Are you saying since Harpeth won regular season they are the #1 seed for regional and the district tournament determines the runner up only? How far along is didtrict? In 12AA Liberty and Bolivar have advanced to finals of winners bracket. Liberty, Bolivar, South Side and Lexington finished in a 4 way tie for first and are all pretty evenly matched team and any could still come out of district. The Liberty/Bolivar winner will make region since that will put them in championship game and guarantee 1st or 2nd. Lexington was upset by Camden in 1st round and now South Side and Lexington play an elimination game Saturday. Liberty/Bolivar game is scheduled for Monday with loser playing Tuesday and winner playing winner of Tuesday's game in championship Wednesday.
  18. Every time I used to watch the old Detroit Tigers play and Kaline play play the announcers almost always at some point would say that Kaline never spent a day in the minor leagues (that's really all I remember about Kaline). Knowing that Yount began his career at a very young age and Winfield was drafted by 3 different professional sports, don't know anything about the beginning of the others careers, but I'm going to guess they none of them played in minor leagues. It's probably either that or some sort of age thing. Sticking with the VG theme, What player had the most hits in the 80's?
  19. Aaron's career ended in mid 70's so it would not be him. I looked up Reggie's career stats and he hit 292 in the 70's so that would be incorrect. I will not offer a guess since I cheated, but it appears as if his name might have been mentioned in an earlier post. Can I count Reggie's post season Home Runs? If you thrown in his "October" Home runs, he probably comes out on top.
  20. That's always tough when you go by decades to remember who played their whole career in that decade. Being a child of the 70's (although some of it is a little hazy), how many guesses do I get. The first name that popped in my head was Reggie, I know he burst on the scene early in the 70's and lasted the decade and hit a lot of Dingers. The 70's was also Big Red Machine days and Bench and Perez played most of the decade and left the yard a few times. Pops Stargell Pirates won WS in 71 and 79 (and he was MVP in 79) so he lasted the decade and hit a lot of dingers. Schmidt I think came on in mid 70's so he is probably out. Frank Robinson didn't make it through the 70's so he's probably out. Can't think of anyone else. 296, different time back then, that's about 6 years work now. A Rod and Bonds and maybe others have probably surpassed that in this decade. Oh, yeah I forgot to answer the question. How many guesses do I get. So, I'll guess Reggie, Bench, Pops and Perez. OK--REGGIE?
  21. Usually, in any double elimination tournament you have to get to the appropriate number of teams in upper (winner's bracket) to get down to 2 for a championship game--16, 8, 4 ,2 ,1. Since there are only 5 teams in district the first order of business is to make it 4 teams. So basically # 1, 2 and 3 draw a bye and 4 and 5 play. In a 6 team district 2 teams would draw byes, in a 7 team district 1 team draws a bye. In a 8 team district there would be no byes and then you would have your 1/8, 2/7, 3/6 and 4/5 games to get to where a 5 team district is after playing just the 4/5 game. Some districts use single elimination play-in games (I think this is the decision of each district). 13AA is probably a 7 team district with only top seed getting a bye. In a 5 team district there is no 7 seed to play the 2 seed or 6 seed to play the 3 seed, so they basically have byes also.
  22. And Halle Berry for a while, also. NL West and East with BRaves 1997 Cleveland Indians 2000 Yanks 2002 A's I believe in one of many years Rod Carew won the batting title, he did not hit a home run. If not him, probably someone from the dead ball era, which was even before my time.
  23. Hint--Remember the Braves played in both the NL West and NL East in the 90's.
  24. What player has played on division winners in 5 of 6 divisions. Hint: Never played on a NL Central division winning team.
