  1. Liberty, South Side, Bolivar and Lexington tie for first. Liberty wins tiebreaker (runs given up, I think) is #1 seed and draws a bye and Plays winner of Tuesday Lexington/Camden game on Thursday. South Side and Bolivar Play McNairy and Chester County Tuesday. Not sure who plays who, but the 2 winners will meet. Tuesday's games are at home field of higher seed (South Side, Bolivar and Lexington). The rest of the tournament will be played in Lexington. If top seeds win, it will be Liberty/Lexington and South Side/Bolivar. That's all the heresay I have heard. Anyone feel free to add information or correct any of my information--or a full tournament schedule with game times would be great.
  2. Saying USJ would beat Huntington 10 out of 10 is ridiculous. Huntington is obviously a fine team and capable of beating USJ. They are comparable to the South Side team that beat USJ last week and Huntington beat this week. Saying USJ is a better team and would win more than Huntington in a 10 games series is a reasonable opinion. Saying 10 out of 10, while always possible, is not a reasonable opinion. Both teams should play deep into May.
  3. Yanks are off today, so Albert keeps his name in record book with A Rod with 14 April homers. Also I think A Rod came up a little short on RBI recors for April. A great month by A Rod and the Yankees are a mess--the guy can't catch a break (except when he goes to the bank).
  4. Very good, Mr McGoo. Palmer pitched in all 6 World Series the Orioles played in from 1966 to 1983 and had WS wins in the 60's, 70's and 80's.
  5. Who is the only player to play in all the World Series his team has ever played in (minimum 5 WS)? In case that one's a little tough, who is the only pitcher to win WS games in 3 different decades? The answer to both questions is the same.
  6. But they flopped in the playoffs /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  7. This proves all you Brave fans are Bandwagon jumpers /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> When did old Knucksie playin the World Series--I know not with the Braves and i don't remember any of his late stops ending in the WS.
  8. Bolivar, Liberty and South Side have now completed district schedule at 9-3. If Lexington defeats Camden in their last district game, there is a 4 way tie. There is no head to head tiebreaker, the word I have been told is the tiebreaker is runs given up. In this case, it appears Liberty wins the tiebreaker and would be #1 seed. As always, the above is based on heresay and speculation and should in no way be confused with information from someone who has any actual knowledge.
  9. Correct--Foster hit 52 in 77. One of 4 MVP's on that team that won 6 MVP's between 70 and 77. Bench in 70 and 72, Rose in 73, Morgan in 75 and 76 and Foster in 77. For you Cardinal fans 2 Cardinals won MVP's in the 70's. Keith Hernandez and Willie Stargell were Co-MVP's in 79 and a slow footed catcher better known as Yankees Manager Joe Torre hit over 360 in 71 and claimed MVP honors. Big Cecil Fielder hit 50 in 90. 16 times in the 90's there was a 50 Home Run season and 12 times already since 2000.
  10. I through his name in, Don't I get 4 quesses /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> Who is the only person to hit 50+ Home Runs in a season in the 70's? How many people hit 50+ Home Runs in the 80's?
  11. Stan still is one of the best guys around. One of the true treasures of St Louis. I liked the old days when most the great players stayed with the same team their whole carreers. Didn't have to wonder which hat they were going to wear when the went into HOF. Stan was a Cardinal, Is a Cardinal and always will be a Cardinal.
  12. The most logical answer would be either Gwynn or Boggs. But it seems I remember at the end of the decade Mark Grace and Rafael Palmero battling it out for most something in the decade with Grace coming out on topand both had a lot of hits. Not sure, Since Boggs heyday was more in the 80's, I'll go with Gwynn.
  13. All are pretty solid teams. I think all except Bolivar are in the 20 plus win and single digit loss category. Lexington split with all of the 3 other teams, Liberty beat SS twice, SS beat Bolivar twice and Bolivar beat Liberty twice.
  14. It appears District 12-AA is in a 4 way tie with the top 4 teams all with 3 District losses. Liberty and South Side completed their District season last night and finished at 9-3 in district play. Bolivar and Lexington split their 2 games this week and also have 3 District losses. Bolivar has a game left Thursday with McNairy and Lexington has 2 with Camden later this week. If they both win out, we will be left with a 4 way tie for District. Sounds like a great District tournament coming up next week.
  15. That's an interesting question. Records keep dancing around. This is what I know. Liberty is 7-3 having lost twice to Bolivar, beat South Side twice and split 2 with Lexington, Have 2 district games left with McNairy. South Side lost 2 to Liberty and beat Bolivar twice and I think split with Lexington, which gives them 3 district losses--not sure what district games are left to play. Then Lexington (part fact part what I have heard) Split with SS and Liberty, have not yet played Bolivar. I think 2 district losses, still with Bolivar to play and not sure who else. Bolivar beat Liberty twice lost to South Side twice and has not played Lexington. There was a score posted of McNairy beating Bolivar, but it has been removed, so all I know is Bolivar has 2 district losses, still have to play Lexington twice and not sure if they have any more district games. This is the status as far as I know, but someone else might could provide more information or correct any of the above information. If Lexington and Bolivar have 2 district losses and split their 2 games, and all 4 teams win thier other district games, it could end up in a 4 way tie--not sure what tiebreaker for seeding in district would be.
  16. Heard a story about Ted Williams and his son touring Cooperstown together and they cane across Stan's plaque. His son asked Ted how good a hitter Stan was. Ted gave the highest compliment Ted could bestow on anyone, He said , "Son, he was as good as your dad." Don't know how true the story is, but have heard it a few times over the years.
  17. Lexington looked like a solid team, pretty good game last night. Both teams had chances to score more runs but pitchers and defense snuffed out rallies. I think 12AA tournament will be a good one with Lexington, Liberty, South Side and Bolivar battling it out for 2 spots to advance to region. Looking forward to another good game with Lexington tonight at Liberty.
  18. The problem with making derogatory remarks abour another team before you play them is you often wind up looking like a fool. Liberty's "no pitching" shut out South Side on back to back nights and beat Jeffries and Talbot. South Side managed 3 hits and 0 runs in 14 innings against the "no pitching" Liberty. This is not intended as a jab toward South Side. Liberty, South Side, Bolivar and Lexington are all pretty evenly matched teams that will battle it out for District 12AA title. Just had to answer Shoot off his mouth making derogatory remarks baseball01 guy.
  19. Any further updates on Zach Lewis? Is he a junior or a senior this year?
  20. Most all major schools have these problems, but when it's UT it seems to be plastered all over ESPN and all the past sins brought up and rehashed and even mentioned when they play. When it's Florida or some other schools, a story runs about the incident and you hear notrhing else about it. Where is the story detailing all of Florida's run ins the past 3 years?
  21. Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Orlando Cepeda,Julian Javier, Dal Mazville, Ken Boyer,Mike Shannon, Curt Flood, Tim McCarver and the gang made me a Cardinal fan for life in the sixties. Been through many ups and downs over the years, but Redbird for life. Have been fortunate enough to see Cardinals play in 8 World Series and win 4 (had waited a long time for last year). Have seen Cardinals go from 69 through 81 without a playoff appearance. That's what being a fan is all about--revelling in the victories and struggling through the bad times (waiting for "next" year).
  22. Cardinals are in first place and sporting some fine new jewelry. Defending World champs and in first place. Latest word is Carpenter may have bone spurs and need surgury. Not good, but Duncan and the Cards always seem to come up with enough pitching off the scrap heap (made Weaver and Suppan rich), so we'll see how it goes. Doesn't look like a great team now but the end of the year is what counts. Hang in there get healthy, get pitching worked out and uneverknow. One thing is for certain, if the cardinals had went 0-162, they are still World Champions until October.
  23. They had sidewalks way back then /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> I thought you played before concrete was invented.
