  1. I still don't think you can get too mad at the people for leaving when the game isn't close. They are there to have fun and enjoy a game, but if niether of those is satisfied then they have a right to leave. They probably try to find something to do that they will enjoy more. Most pay to enter the game so its their money they're losing. Also what are some opinions on why the football team can't turn the program around but the basketball team was able to, the baseball team is at the top, and soccer teams are always very competetive. What is the difference in how their programs are run with the same administration?
  2. Sorry forgot a couple things. I'm not really worried about the image of the student sectoin, just showing you where i disagree witih what you said about them. And you shouldn't force people to play a sport, they have to wanna play and have a love for the game. Unfortunately, it probably makes it harder to get kids to play a high school sport for a team that has trouble winning.
  3. Hmmmm sorry....wrong again my friend, not someone in the student section. So most of that post was pointless. I'm not going to comment too much about the part with your son because I have no idea where he stands in the program and what all has gone on with him, the coaches, and the athletic director. But, alot of what you described is how athletics are. Working as hard as possible, making the practices, making sacrifices, and watching people leave when you don't win or make the game exciting.
  4. Your other post was about how there is no school spirit and support for the team. Seems as though you just admitted they have people there to support them. Dressing up for your team, cheering when they make good plays, and getting on the refs is part of the whole support thing by student sections. That is what student sections do. Have you ever seen major college programs' student sections? It's the same kind of thing, just on a much smaller level. And about Duncan, last year he was constantly keeping the football and especially basketball student section from doing many things they wanted to do. He said there had to be some control and sportsmanship......many thought he worried too much about what the kids were doing and didn't let them have fun and go all out cheering. It appears you're just looking for problems that surround the program. There are problems everywhere. Try enjoying the good things surrounding the program.
  5. Yeah too bad you can't take away and add quarters or many football games would turn out totally different. Congrats S-D.
  6. Charlie 5, a couple things: First of all, S-D does have school spirit. I don't know where you've been, but over the past few years I see kids dressed up with paint and all kinds of gear, going crazy at football and basketball games. At some away games, I've even noticed that S-D will have a bigger student section on the road than the home team will. I call that school spirit....especially with the record the football team has had over the past few years. I know this year has just begun, but last year saw great support from the students cheering for their team and their friends regardless of the score. Don't try and downgrade the support that is their by students. Secondly, drugs and violence are in every school these days. What that has to do with football, i'm not completely sure. I guess you just wanted to get your opinions of South Knoxville heard. You may not like the area you live in, but I know many do. This sports board about football isn't a place for you to complain about how you don't like the area. Alot of south-doyle students and graduates are proud of the school they attend or attended, and would not have it differently. Just because you don't like the area doesn't mean you should complain about how bad it is and only point out the bad aspects you see. Many students in the area read these boards and you shouldn't be on here pointing out what you feel is wrong with their school and community. Maybe they enjoy where they live.......many do. And how do you know how the boys are treated during school. You say the coaches ignore them? That seems odd.
  7. True both teams will be able to hit the ball some, but the top pitchers in the rotation are gonna hold the opposing team to less hits. And the aces are less likely to give up big hits in crucial situations, home runs for instance. I don't understand your post.
  8. South-Doyle travels to Heritage Monday night for the 2nd round match up in the district. What is everyone's predictions on this game? South-Doyle struggled some last week but I believe they will be ready to play tomorrow. I think Holland will be on the mound so it may be a low scoring night for the Mountaineers. S-D will need to get the bats back going for this week. It'll be a cold one to go watch, but I think I will make it.
  9. Please explain what you mean by that comment? I heard S-D led the whole game. Just curious what happened.
  10. Statement04.....make sure u let us know when your team, whoever it is, plays South-Doyle. I wanna make sure i'm there. Hope you feel stupid if you get beat.
  11. Great baseball game. It awful to see a game end on a call like that since it was so hard to tell whether he caught it or not. Chad Bell pitched for south-doyle and did a good job. It appeared S-D had the game easily bein up 7-2, but bell got tired late and s-d didn't have anyone step up and close the game for them. I think they used 3 different pitchers in the last inning. It would've been nice to see someone like mcclain or holland come in and pick up the save, but its understandable that they didn't bring them in. Both pitched at other times this week, and jeff county wasn't a district game. Jefferson County's pitcher was bringin it really hard tonight. I heard someone say he hit 91, there were a couple coaches there with guns.
  12. South-doyle also beat Collierville this year. So i guess they've gone elsewhere to find a team to beat and taken care of business. I hope they continue the success throughout the season, good luck S-D.
  13. South-Doyle struggled at the plate early but found it late in the game and came through. Perkey had a nice breaking ball that gave s-d trouble early. McClain pitched well......he stayed focused and got himself out of some tough situations. Heritage was leavin men on all night, they couldn't come up with the big hit. Holland came in to close the game. Heritage had a line drive to center with a man on 2nd but they tried to stretch it to far. McClain came up and fired a rope to gun the runner down at home, impressive throw. I believe south-doyle will be an exciting team this year.
  14. mhsfan44, u need to try gettin all your information straight before you post on here. Heritage is a good team and always finds a way to play South-Doyle very well......but, you're post is ridiculous. Just as many losers do, you're tryin to blame the 1st game on bad officiating. Sorry man, but that's a horrible excuse. The officiating may have been weak in both games, but it was even on both sides of the court, and Heritage gets away with alot of holds and hand checks when playing man. As for the play at the end with Snoderly, there was no one at fault there. There was 1 second remaining on the clock when the last shot was taken, SD was up 4. Snoderly, most likely just reacting, ran in and jumped to try and get a tip in at the buzzer. There was no way Heritage could win and he went over a SD player's back who was standing still and watching the shot. Luckily, he only suffered from a bruised shoulder, which was good news. He's a good player. The refs should not have made a call, and if they had called anything, it would've had to have been over the back on Heritage. And I have no idea where you came up with this thing about Heritage not havin their coach at the 2nd game. He was there. Heritage played a very good game, but South-Doyle struggled all night executing on offense. They were losing by a good margin in the 1st quarter, but worked their way back in it and ended up with a win. SD did not play well. Hope they will be back ready to play for the tourney.
  15. Heritage, South-Doyle game will still be played. Its at Heritage......their homecoming. Hopefully there will still be a good crowd even though there is no school.
  16. gomab, where do u find the player rankings on prephoops?? i can't seem to find the actual rankings, just the posts people write about the rankings.
  17. I have to agree with CoachZ. I went to the West vs. South-Doyle game at West last year, i heard it was supposed to be a competitive game and it was. But i don't know which game mcgrew33 was watching. Johnson scored with ease......don't know exact numbers, but i'd say Coach Z is pretty close, he had big numbers against west. Don't know how good West will be this year. I believed they struggled this summer. Karns looks to have a good team. They have a lot of great shooters and they're a team that will put up a lot of points. They have a very talented group of guys and i can see them goin pretty far this year.
  18. It should be interesting to see what south doyle can do this year. They were a decent team last year, but seemed to never find a way to win the games that would count. They had some chances to be near the topic of the district but let teams hang with them and beat them in the end. I believe they lost 2 starters, one a point guard, and it should be hard to fill those positions. I'm not sure how their young players are, but they will have to step up. It's hard to predict how they will be this year. I don't know when you saw johnson play last year, but he is better than D2 and D3. Last i heard, he has gotten 2 D1 offers and has talked to several other D1 schools. South Doyle could be a very good team this year, but it will be tough. I see district 4AAA as being the most competitive district night in and night out this year. Alot of teams in that district could end up winning it. This season will be an exciting one.
  19. hmmmmm..........seems as if you're upset about the truth concerning the fall league in my post. And maybe you should quit gettin smart about sayin i should read the posts when YOU never specified which team you play for. Also, i heard oak ridge, south-doyle, and halls were all missing players for football and other reasons.
  20. I don't know a lot about central this year, but from what i hear alot of their upperclassmen are not playing this year. If this is true, i think it will be tough to coach a very young team with little leadership, although it can be done. With a young team, they may struggle early in the year from lack of game experience, but by the 2nd half of the season they may grow much better. If coached well he could have them being very competitive in their district toward the 2nd half of the season.
  21. I have to agree with bulldog12, fall league doesn't mean much of anything. If you look at the fall league karns has had over the past few years, the outcomes of those games didn't always carry over to the season. Plenty of teams were judged by their performances their and were completely opposite during the regular season. Fall leagues are to give players a chance to play with each other and get back into the flow of high school basketball. Accurate predictions are very hard to make based on watching teams play without their coach, without all of their players, and for many teams without any plays and sets. So its awfully hard for you, tonymontana, to say the regular season will play out the way fall league did. And, not that it matters, but who is your team and who are you claiming you "romped" with all of their players there? I think knoxville basketball will be very competitive this year, and i'm looking forward to watching many games around the area.
  22. It sounds as if the run for the final couple spots in the playoffs are between jeff co, seveir co, and karns. I also heard that there is some way south-doyle could make the playoffs. Something about winning the last 2 and science hill losing both of theirs. I don't see how this is possible for a team with the record south-doyle holds. Can someone explain what must happen for each of the teams mentioned to make the playoffs. Thanks, and i'm looking forward to an exciting last couple weeks of regular season football!

    S-D WINS!

I'm glad south-doyle was finally able to pull out a win. I'm sure the players, coaches, and fans are really enjoying the feeling of winnin one. Maybe they will be able to perform much better in their final two games now that they know how it feels to win. Not exactly sure, but from what I heard, s-d had a couple chances to make this game not even close. Penalties? Turnovers? Close or not, its good to see this team get a win.
