  1. There was a guy from Trezevant who played for Bethel back in the 80's who could pitch with either arm. I think his name was Don Reed. More than once, he would throw both games of a double header.
  2. Yes, Dale Kelly did play basketball at Bethel, and is in the Bethel Sport's Hall of Fame. Dale was a good athlete and is a good man.
  3. What about the guy from Trezevant who played pro football? I think his name was Les Bingham. May be wrong about the spelling of his last name.
  4. I thought the Renfroe kid that played a few years back was one of the toughest players during that era. What position did McLemore play in college?
  5. Bell is #17 on the original post.
  6. Ray Morrison---McTyeire School in McKenzie. All-American at Vanderbilt and later coached at Vandy and SMU. George Abernathy--All Mid South. All SEC Sophomore team at Vanderbilt Terry Bateman--High School All American Tom Winsett--Baseball. Picture on the cover of an April 1938 Life Magazine
  7. How many of the seniors from the 2004 Huntingdon team will / can play college football?
  8. I think Hayes completed this pass for about 25 yards.
  9. Bell played and scored several touchdowns. When the new stadium is finished, Bell will burn the new carpet with his speed.
  10. No, McKenzie won't win the gold ball next year. The mistakes that McKenzie made this year will carry over to next year. Poor kickoff coverage and poor tackling will come back and haunt the Rebels. McKenzie will be a passing team again, and one dimentional teams rarely win the title. They may finish high in their new region, but the chances of them going to the 'Boro are slim to none.

By this time next year, Bethel will have a new stadium. The field will have the same turf as the Baltimore Ravens field. Great location with good access and great parking. Should help Bethel's recruiting process. By the way, the Cats have players from many of the surrounding towns. McKenzie, Greenfield, West Carroll, Milan, Huntingdon and Dresden to name a few. Cats are on the way up.
  12. It was 1994 before Huntingdon ever won a playoff game.
  13. I remember a kid named Johnson that played QB who was a tough runner for Camden. The big McPeak boy played tackle, but I believe that was in the late 60s. Camden always had big strong kids. By the way, I have a video tape of the 1970 McKenzie - Huntingdon game. It was transferred from the 16mm film to video. The game is as clear as what is shot today. Webb Maddox was the h'town QB.
  14. The Rebels beat Huntingdon in 2001, not 2002. Score was 13-6.
  15. Catfish, you will be easy to spot. You will be the one wearing the white socks.
  16. I bet you don't have two or three home runs against Huntingdon in the air. True, Huntingdon's secondary can be passed on, but the Mustangs won't sit back and let your quarterback have all day to pass like McKenzie did. They will shut down your running game and knock your quarterback out of the game unless he throws the quick pass. The Donald kid will punish you running up the middle and you don't have anyone in your secondary who can bring him down. The Weathers kid will burn you on the corners with his speed. You have no one on your team who can match up with him speed wise. Don't measure your team by what they did against McKenzie. I have seen both teams play, and Huntingdon by far is the superior team.
  17. Camden is the classic example of a team that finally got the right coach. Though their record did not reflect it last year one could see their team improving during the season. In my opinion, a good coach will take a kid to the next level of his ability. He should: 1. Take a below average kid and make him average. 2. Take an average kid and make him above average. 3. Take an above average kid and make him great. In addition, he will instill into his team a will to win. Ward has done all of this. Look at Ward's resume---played under a winning program in high school. Was an assistant coach at a winning program---and now has brought pride back to Lionville. Camden has always had good athletes--but until recently they have had no direction. Congratulations to the Lions and good luck to all 6-AA teams.
  18. Considering the mistakes that McKenzie made, we made Cheatam Co. look like All-Americans. Huntingdon will have no trouble with the Cublets.
  19. Camden as a 4th place team last year played LC a tough game. I look for the Lions to finish the job this year.
  20. Yes, he works at Bethel College in the master's program.
  21. There were two games last year that gave hints about the Rebel's performance this year. One: The Dresden game. Everyone picked the Rebels to win big. The Lions came into town and physically pushed the Rebels all over the field. Two: Lewis County. McKenzie was never in the game. Poor tackling, poor execution and poor play calling took a toll on the Rebels. That lackluster level of play extended into 2004. I believe that in last year's Huntingdon game, the Rebels had close to 400 yards total offense and only scored one TD. I look for the same this year.
  22. I agree with Baseball Guy about the kickoff coverage. Why does McKenzie not have their best players covering? How many teams have run kickoffs back against the Rebels this year? If it happens once you sort of overlook it. If it happens twice, you make some adjustments. It has happened several times, and we are still overlooking it and making no adjustments. Players don't stay in their lanes and they don't break down when closing in on the ball carrier. This is a problem that could be solved during ONE practice session. A good team improves from game to game. McKenzie has not improved any in this area.
