  1. Roper-yes, Cutter-no. No doubt Cutter can shoot it. But pretty? Not by a long shot (no pun intended).
  2. If seven states use a shot clock, I must assume that 43 do not. That speaks volumes to me. I also agree with Dawg when he says, "who decides what is basketball and what is not." Just because it doesn't suit your eye certainly doesn't mean it isn't basketball. I also do not believe the purpose of high school basketball is to prepare kids for college basketball. It is to prepare for life. For the few who do play college basketball, the transition from no shot clock to a shot clock would be virtually nonexistent. The players do as they are coached.
  3. Your right, Hoolie, I was just looking for a fight. I don't even know Edwards. I'm gonna drop it because it's obvious to me that you either: a) know your wrong and are making up outrageous statements in a feeble attempt to rationalize, or really believe it is okay to publicly and openly blame a defeat on a teammate and peer. Either way, I don't see a way out of this. We just simply don't see eye to eye on the way to treat others. From reading several of your posts throughout b-ball season and now tennis, I would really love to see a teammate call YOU out on CoachT. I wonder if it would still be "normal conservation". Somehow, I doubt it. As for you, Na Supp, why don't you let your daddy, hoolie, handle his own fights.
  4. ................and then you get on a VERY widely read public forum and say "Edwards fell apart." sorry, I'm laughing again!
  5. Calling your teammate a "choker" is constructive criticism?...................... ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... ...................................................................................................................... ..................................., sorry for the pause, I just couldn't stop laughing!
  6. Wasn't mad then, not mad now. I'm just commenting on a pattern that seems to follow the typical Siegel player or follower. I actually find the consistant arrogance of Hooli' and others amusing and get real entertainment out it.
  7. .............and another thought. I sure would hate to be YOUR teammate, Hooligan. You blame Edwards for the defeat of his doubles team. You basically called him a choker. Now that has to be good for team morale. Dirk Nowitzki could take lessons from you on how to call out a teammate!
  8. I wouldn't know which end of the racket you use to hit the ball with, therefore, I probably would not be seeded very high. I do, however, know about fair play. Unfortunately (I reckon'), I am old school where credit was given when credit was due. I appreciate some of the things I read on the recent posts. I don't disagree that the Siegel team may have been better than the Lebanon team. They may win 9 out of every 10 times the two teams meet. But this is the 'one' and Lebanon deservedly won. Their effort warrants all the credit. They should not have to read about "Edwards falling apart." Maybe, just maybe, Edwards fell apart because Lebanon took him apart. Possibly?
  9. Your a prime example of why nobody outside of Murfreesboro pulls for Siegel (except to lose). Your arrogance becomes too old too fast. Again, your reply gives absolutely no credit to Lebanon. Did they do anything right at all (besides beat your boys, that is)?
  10. Gosh Hooligan, after reading your post, I felt thought it was basketball season all over again. Just like ol' times with your not giving Lebanon any credit for their doubles' win. Do your opponents ever win, or do you guys just lose?
  11. Whew, I'm tired of "he said, she said." You girls need to settle down! Speaking of girls, who are the top girls in our district? I hear Blackman, Oakland and Lebanon have the top 3 girls. Can anyone confirm or correct that? Thanks.
  12. No question Lebanon lost alot, but they have alot returning. Donald will be hard to replace but 6'5 Brian Henderson has proven he can be a solid big man. Nick Payne returns at the shooting guard and he made the all-district, all-district tournament and all-region tournament team. He is a player. Britton Winfree returns as a power forward and can be as good as anyone in the league. John Presley is back and he was the leading 3-point shooter in the district last year while coming off the bench. Moving into the starting lineup should only increase his numbers. The next spot will be between Marc Hancock, a tremendous defender and rebounder and Ken Walton, a tremendous offensive player. I think you can say Lebanon is reloading, not rebuilding. I see Siegel winning the district but I don't think it will be as easy as everyone thinks. Losing Ross will hurt. I believe 2nd is up for grabs with Lebanon, Cookeville, White Co., Oakland and Riverdale. Although Warren Co. will be better, 7th will be a good finish for them. If what I read in an earlier post is true (Wade going to Oakland), Blackman is destined for last.
  13. Bud is the Head Coach at Central and Campbell, his father, is his assistant. Campbell is a little bit more than competent. When he retired from Lebanon, he was 2nd all-time in Tennessee high school girls basketball wins behind on Jim Smiddy of Bradley Central. He may still be second. Although his state championship came in the 1/2 court 6 on 6 days, he was still highly successful at the current full court game. This is certainly not the case. Wilson Central has talent that will match up with anyone. Kellie Gassie is as good as any girl in the game. She could play for some boys teams. Fellow senior Kellie O'Connell is their floor leader and great 3-point shooter. Their 2 posts, Sare Williams and Tierny Jenkins are both young and solid. They shut down Clark and McFarlin of Mt. Juliet which means they are capable of shutting anybody down. They do have great coaching, but lack of talent is not a problem. I see maybe the best 1st round game of the state tournament right here.
  14. Nice post, 7AAwatcher. I can't say I disagree with what you say, but I can't agree with everything you say, either. I was in attendance for the game you mention above. There was a discrepancy in freethrows but it was because Cookeville had to send Lebanon to the foul line in the 4th quarter to get possession of the ball. You see it all time. The team that is behind on the scoreboard almost always has a huge disadvantage in freethrows becasue of the "unintentional-intentional" foul. I wasn't at this game but because White Co. won, I would have to assume the same situation occured here as in the Lebanon game. Cookeville simply sent White Co. to the line to get the ball back. Because of the first 2 points you make, I must assume you are a Cookeville fan. Well that kinda nullifies this quote. There are fans that see every call as right and wrong. The officiating did not seem to be top notch, but it did go both ways. This is a great point. Coaches and players ARE held accountable, not to officials, but to their own administrators and coaches, respectively. I have yet see or hear about an official being fired or even suspended. That is not accountability. Referrees have to fear some kind of evaluation process. Not being able to officiate the state tournament is not punishment. I don't think officials cheat. I do think some are weak. In a game I saw the other night, one team had a 10-2 advantage in fouls called. I mentioned to my buddy that we should not worry about it because the fouls would catch up. They did. Did one team suddenly stop fouling and the other suddenly start fouling? Did the officials feel the pressure to even out the fouls? I don't know, I just know that these situations invariably even themselves out. That all being said, the officiating is as bad as I have ever seen. It is a bad sign when the first thing you do at a game is look to see who is referring. BUT, that is what I do. One team on this same night as above had shot 3 or 4 offensive rebounds from the paint. They kept rebounding and trying to tip it in. The ball was in constant motion. A whistle blows, "3 second violation." WHAT? I'm just watching, not really interested in who wins, but that is just not knowing the rules. And this was in a regional tournament, supposedly your best referrees. To me offiicals can do virtually anything they want and there is not one thing a coach can to about it. Coaches have no recourse. Sure, they can blackball an official for a homegame, but what fool would do that? You'll certainly see them on the road, and I do believe some officials are vindictive. I don't know the answer, but when officials want to be seen, they have lost their effectiveness. Nothing is better than to NOT be able to recall who referreed the game.
  15. Warren Co. has some excellent young talent coming up. I think they have a chance to be really good next year. The problem is that just about every team in the district is young. I know Cookeville, White Co., (obviously) Siegel, and Riverdale are all very young and will be strong next year. Lebanon and Oakland are perennially tough and Blackman has Wade to build around. Even though Warren Co. will be much better, it might not show up, especially in the district.
  16. If Lebanon can contain Oden (they haven't yet) and guard Roper, I like their chances. As good as Siegel is, you can't allow them the easy layups. They have to earn their points the hard way, half-court offense. Of course all this is dependent on Lebanon hitting some shots, of which they have struggled toward the end of the season. In the other semi, I have to go with Oakland. I like Riverdale's depth and their tenacity on the boards, but I am afraid that Oakland is just too dadgummed athletic. Boyd can score just about anytime he wants to and Dixon can get to the rack. When Allen is hitting the '3' and Joines is doing his thing (which is everything) they are tough.
  17. How is Tennessee Tech a "neutral" site? Just because Cookeville does not play there doesn't mean it is "neutral". Short of going to Nashville, where even there some fans have much shorter distances to travel than others, the only fair way is to rotate it. As much as I dread traveling to McMinnville next year, it is only fair. What's wrong with Lebanon's gym? It has a great basketball atmosphere. I prefer it to any gym in the district. White Co.'s gym would be second. It, like Lebanon, is a little older with some distinction to it.
  18. A great honor for a great man. I was at the game tonight and was touched by the outpouring of support for the ol' coach. One of the Central players asked me after the game if Coach Gibbs was still there. I told him no and asked if he knew Coach Gibbs. He answered, "No, but he refereed many of my jr.high games." I asked the player if he had known what a great man Coach Gibbs was and all he had accomplished and he said no. That's why he wanted to see Coach. He wanted to congratulate him. It was neat to see the young man gain an awareness of the history of Blue Devil basketball and Coach Hester Gibbs. I believe he was truly surprised by the honor. From now on, the Lebanon Blue Devils will play basketball on Hester Gibbs Court. Cool.
  19. Actually, Lebanon shot 4 more freethrows than Central. That kinda shoots down your 'woe is me' fairy-tale. You Wilson Central people remind me of Siegel. Lots of excuses and exaggeration. Wilson Central is a good basketball team. So is Lebanon. The Wildcat victory gives the two Wilson County teams a split in their 2 game series. The teams are pretty even athletically, and yet you, like your own Coach Bond, make excuses as to why Central played so bad. In the first game that Lebanon won, he was quoted as saying, "if we hit any shots, we win." Why can't he give any credit to the team that just beat him? Now you, dogg, are making excuses for not winning by more than 8. I am looking forward to reading the paper tomorrow and see just what Coach Keil has to say. I will be shocked if he says anything other than what a great game Wilson Central played. He will give them the credit for Lebanon's sloppy play. The way I saw the game is Central played well and won the game. Period. No excuses. Lebanon lost to the better team tonight. Congratulations Central.
  20. Are we talking about tradition or the current toughest district in the state? I couldn't argue that 16AAA has a pretty good history, but how tough are you this year? We're not playing against Northside, circa 1988 or the '78 Melrose team. I assume we are talking about 2005. I'll go with 7AAA. This district is tough from top to 'almost' bottom. Only Warren Co. would not be considered a threat in any game they play. With Siegel, Oakland, Lebanon, Riverdale, Cookeville, etc, etc....., this district stacks up with anyone in the state.
  21. That's my whole point. Siegel didn't look good at all yet still did just about anything they wanted.
  22. I saw the Wilson Central-Siegel game and I just can't get the vision out of my head. Siegel appeared to be playing with Central. They did anything they wanted and even though the game was always within reach, it was apparent that Siegel could finish it just about anytime they wanted. When one team seems so 'out of their league' as Central did on this night, it is hard for me to believe they have any shot at something big. One thing in their favor is they won't have to see Siegel again.....unless it is in the state.
  23. I hope all you people in Lafayette realize what a fine man you have in Jason Welch. He is a fine young coach and a great role model for your children. I realize Macon Co. has had another long and trying season. If you are patient with Coach Welch, you will soon reaping the rewards you deserve. He was one of the most respected coaches in Lebanon before he moved on to Riverdale. He is still missed here today and people still talk about his accomplishments. As do many others in Lebanon, I wish the Macon Co. Tigers all the luck in the world. You deserve good things and you will get them.
  24. Let's not get overly excited about beating Southside. I was at the game and while I am proud of our girls for their win, this is not a typical Southside team. They are sloppy with the ball and weak defenders. They don't get after you like the Southside teams of old. I don't think Thursday will be much of a game. My only concern is our girls may be overlooking Southside.
