  1. Burton scored late on a long run against North. Hard to believe he and Coty are the only two returning players that scored, but I can't think of another one off the top of my head. If that's true Hayes scored as many or more TD's while playing defense than any of our returning players scored on offense.
  2. Gotta go with the Catfish on the WR situation. No one hopes Sensabaugh has a breakout year more than I do, but at this point it's just hope with little performance to base it on. One 99 yard reception against a completely overmatched North team does not a WR make. Coty definitely has some physical skills, but from what I saw last year and the scrimmages so far this year, he needs to make some major strides in catching the ball consistently and in not fumbling after the catch. At this point I'd say the top WR is whichever QB isn't playing QB at the moment, with Coty, Bertuso and Washington (and quite possibly Stabler or Shelton at TE) bunched up for No. 2. Hopefully 2 or 3 of these guys will step it up once the lights come on for real next week.
  3. Maybe he hasn't heard Shiverdecker went to Alcoa.
  4. Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. Good luck with your season Rebs.
  5. If you knew the reason for that you would feel really bad for mentioning it. Hint: not all kids are the same.
  6. Did they put DB's 2 scores on the scoreboard? If so, you took your picture a little too early because the "game" wasn't over. That's the nice thing about scrimmages--the coaches can agree to alter the rules.
  7. Apparently they played 5 quarters. That'll cross you up!
  8. THS spoke a little too soon. The final was 14-14 as DB tacked on 2 TD's late.
  9. I was only able to catch the 3rd quarter. Maryville was leading 7-0 toward the end of the 3rd. From what I saw (and heard of the 1st half), both teams looked pretty good on defense. The offenses did move the ball some, but had trouble putting a drive together and getting in the endzone (partly due to turnovers). I think both teams could use a few days off at this point.
  10. When did Halls kick a field goal? I got there during the lightning delay about 15 minutes after the scrimmage was supposed to have started, and several people told me Halls had run a few plays, gotten a first down, and then the refs pulled everyone off the field. Anyway, Halls was fired up and looked good, but they most certainly did not dominate DB offensively (defensively is another story, see below). DB's defense played at least as well as Halls' defense. The score should be written DB Offense 14, DB 0, as DB's offense accounted for Halls' two scores. One of the TD's came after a turnover close to DB's goal line, and the other was an INT run back for a TD. Halls never drove the ball on DB's defense. Now DB's offense was another story. Long, long evening to say the least. I hope Halls' defense is really that good, because if not DB has a lot to learn. The coaches were apparently saying 9 turnovers after the game, and I didn't really notice anyone who played particularly well. The QB's looked lost a lot (which is understandable given the lack of protection), and on most of the few occasions they hit an open receiver in the gut, the receiver immediately dropped it. Gordon is playing both ways on the line, although he missed some plays here and there; I think they didn't want to push him too much this early given the knee. Kilgore, the really big center, got a concussion fairly early and I don't think he went back in. Overall I think the defense has a good chance to be at least as good as last year, and quite possibly better. The offense needs to really pick things up the next couple of weeks; hopefully they will.
  11. I agree with everything you said except this. IMO, the only one of the INT's that arguably should have been a catch by DB was the slant to Hayes that was taken away by a defender, and even that one looked like it was thrown into very tight coverage. You would have to see it from an endzone angle to really tell. The first one was as horrible a decision as a QB could make (floater off his back foot while being hit), and I assume that's the one you agree was an INT all the way. The second one did hit a receiver's hands, but it was 3 feet over his head and traveling about 80 mph. Very, very few high school receivers are going to catch that ball, including Lamon. The other one was again thrown into coverage and was tipped by one defender and intercepted by another without ever coming close to a receiver. Bottom line: Duran had a terrible game, and I think he has said so. Duran has a great arm and throws a beautiful deep ball, but he is also frequently too high and too hard on the short and intermediate routes. He desperately needs to learn to use some touch on the shorter stuff, keep the ball down, and stop trying to throw the ball through a brick wall when he has a wide open receiver 10 yards away.
  12. I was sitting on the first row directly across from where that happened, and the SH player did a flop job that would have made Dennis Rodman blush. Tyler shouldn't have touched him at all, but the "shove" he gave him wouldn't have knocked over a 6 year old. But as soon as he did it, the SH player started staggering backward, windmilling his arms, and then took a dramatic flop on his back. The no call was correct, but I doubt the refs saw it or they would have called it as they sure didn't seem to miss any other opportunities to stick it to DB. The last call on Lamon being the prime example.
