  1. Sale Creek was always an issue because no time is picked up, even 15 to 20 minutes helps. The biggest issue going to 5-A will be the traffic. Going from CSAS west there is no traffic at 4:00 or 4:15. Going east is a traffic jam every day. There is no easy way to get to anything east. CSAS is going to have to look at start times next year or play jv on another day due to the change.
  2. The only reason that CSAS wanted to STAY in the district they were in was because of travel time. The school is located on the west side of town with the majority of the schools in their district using central standard time. Because of the time difference it worked for them to play boys jv games since CSAS does not get out until 4:00 PM and cant get out of school but one time a year regular season. Going east to the new district means terrible traffic and they cant pick up the hour since everyone is on eastern time. JVs will have to start later or not at all. Pretty good reason if you ask me. Temple and Grace had nothing to do with it cause they already played.
  3. I checked on this with someone who says he knows and here it is- Townsend came to CSAS in the 8th grade after being on the waiting list since elementary, Cousin went to CSAS through 7th grade, transfered, got back on the waiting list and came back in the 10th grade, Deere came in the 9th grade after being on the waiting list since elementary, Johnson and Cobb were here since elementary. The big kid at Ooltewah applied but was not admitted, a post player from Brainerd who also played football, I think his name is Thaddeus? also was on the waiting list and did not get in. These are just a few. Oh yeah, Charles Anderson was oncfe on the waiting list but did not come.
  4. Fact is the Select City recruited scholars won and the ear holing football players lost. OP thinks 1 starter returning from last years starters. think he was that #30 that hit everything he shot the second half. You fellers sure know how to recruit a pompom squad. OP says them CSAS coaches are either a miricle workers or else a great recruiters and with the middle school program not good, wonder which is it? Dad burnit, OP says you city fellers need to play a little football and make these seasonal matchups fair year round. Then you wouldn't have to make all them there middle school youngons try out for the pompom squad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #30 Townsend is the only returning starte, in fact he is the only player playing now that played any significant role last year who plays now. Eight players who played last year are gone. Of the players on last nights roster all of them but two have been at CSAS since elementary school, middle school or CSLA our feeder school. The two who were not are tenth graders who have been on the waiting list since middle school and just got in this year. Most people think the coaches we have do a pretty good job, so yes they do develop our players.
  5. What will happen to the second year of probation that the football team was under? Does it just go away? Do they save money in fines? I agree 100% with T-mac. The basketball program at Temple has cheated too! Check out who is paying some of the tuition bills in Highland Park and you will say T-Mac is right too! I will give you his name......BOOSTER!
  6. How likely does anyone think the urban-rural split will actually occur as the method of choice for the TSSAA?
  7. When someone writes on here that Dontay Hampton is a strong student and someone who he thinks will play a significant role at UTC, that is no disrespect toward anyone from any other school in Chattanooga. Dontay is a great example of someone who is doing things right. He is not the first or the last. By the way, I heard Dontay more than held his own at UTC the other day when he was playing pick up with some of the UTC guys!
  8. Friday night the CSAS Patriots shot an amazing 17 out of 20 3-pointers in their game against Lookout Valley. What are some other great 3-pont shooting numbers by teams this year?
  9. CSAS almost always travels out of state for the Christmas break. Last year they were in NC with Austin East, Brainerd, and Maryville. This year they are going to a tournament in Florida. One of the things they seem to try to do is take their team to nice tournaments out of state. I am sure that the Best of Preps will be a good tournament, it just will not have all of the BEST teams in Chattanooga there.
  10. That is pretty funny, you should stop by the Comedy Catch and earn some extra money!!!
  11. Their situations are totally different. Skogen said he was through coaching. He was going to take a long nap and spend more time at his church. Templeton is a career coach who without a doubt was going to keep coaching somewhere. Templeton was spending too much time for too little compensation at Temple. That would make anyone's health get bad!
  12. I guess this means that Coach Skogen is making a comeback from his self-imposed retirement!
  13. The reply of dadoffour is what many people believe is the general arrogant attitude that Temple chooses to display for all to see. It is unfortunate and will probably begin to change toward the end of this week.
  14. It is unfortunate for Temple, but something that they are known for more than success, is their "holier than thou" attitude! They are arrogant and make it easy for those who want to hate them to find a reason to do so!
  15. I have not written regularly about this subject but I have to say that I agree with Taydizzle that all of this just seems like it just didn't start happening at Temple but looks like it could have been going on for years without being reported.
  16. Why would Chastains eigth grade son be given free tuition and not Skogens two sons?
  17. Did dadoffour say his kids do not go to Temple or did not go to Temple? I was thinking that maybe his kids used to go to Temple.
  18. When Chastain was a coach for Temple and put his son in 3 games, where was the head coach? Who is ultimately responsible? Coach Skogen should have known what was happening. He should have known the rules. There is a very huge question out there. Did Coach Skogen know what was going on when Chastain played an ineligible player or were there other players in the same category? What about his sons? Temple is trying to get this over and focused in a direction that they are trying to steer things to-Chastain. If he goes down and takes the blame, Temple hopes maybe the investigation will go away!
  19. I agree with you that South Pittsburg will be on top of the region unchallenged and untouched. But tell me the order of the rest of the region, how they will all finish, as you and anyone else sees it on this first day of August.
  20. Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences scored "big" with the hiring of x-Chattanooga Lookout player and coach Greg Grall. Grall is new coach for CSAS Saturday, July 28, 2007 By Jaime Lackey Staff Writer Greg Grall has a lifetime of experience at all levels of baseball, but recently he added a new position. The former Lookouts player and coach became a high school head coach for the first time when he took over the baseball program at Arts & Sciences this month. "I'm really looking forward to it," Grall said. "I know a lot of the focus is going to be on me initially, but it really needs to be on the players. Whatever we accomplish is going to be because of them. I'll take credit for every loss and the kids can take credit for all the wins, and that's the way it should be." Grall, 42, has lived with his family in Chattanooga since 1993, when he joined the Lookouts as a player. During his professional baseball career with the Cincinnati Reds organization, he also served as a bullpen catcher and coach, hitting coach, first base coach and assistant coach. He then spent several years working as an international consultant for Major League Baseball before joining the Hamilton County school system last year so he could cut back on travel and spend more time with his family. Grall assisted Soddy-Daisy baseball coach Steve Garland last spring and this year will teach elementary school physical education at CSAS, where his daughter is in the fourth grade. "It's definitely going to be a little adjustment, but I got a chance last year to work with high school kids, and it was a good, positive experience," Grall said. "The big thing to remember is that you're a teacher, and you've got to have good communication with the players." CSAS was the Region 3-A runner-up last spring and has qualified for the state tournament the past two years. Athletic director Mark Dragoo said he believes Grall will pick up right where former coach Brandon Lowry left off. "Brandon did a great job with our program," Dragoo said. "I think Greg's going to step in and try to take it up another notch, and I think he's poised to do that. He really wants to get everybody involved, and he's unbelievably enthusiastic. I think he's been out on the field probably every day since he was hired." Grall has already had the Lookouts' ground crew visit the school to suggest improvements that can be made to the Patriots' field. Dragoo said the coach's experiences and connections in professional baseball will be an asset with his high school team. "He has the ability to get kids' attention," Dragoo said. "He's coached major league players. He can look our players in the eye and tell them what's going to work and what isn't. He's a great guy and we're very fortunate to have him. "On paper, he's probably overqualified for a high school coach, but he wants to be here, and he wants to do this." E-mail Jaime Lackey at jlackey@timesfreepress.com
  21. Since Pickett is a small school, do any of their "stud" basketball players play on the football team?
  22. So dadoffour, are we "bashers" and is that what you are when you do the same?
  23. So dadoffour, you are saying that discussing potential, very serious violations by a member school make us bashers of that school? If the school being discussed was your rival, Grace Academy, are you saying that you would not express your thoughts and opinions on this thread?
  24. I for one am not hoping for anything except for the rules to be enforced and for those who break them to be punished accordingly. To think that this is all about Temple is rediculous. If poor decisions, etc. had not been made by several different people then we would not even be talking about this. If it was another school with another name with the same things being said, it would still be a discussion topic on coacht.
