  1. What type of offense does robbie run and what other coaching positions have changed?
  2. If this is true Thats a heck of a coaching staff, lots young blood there.I hope it works out to the good,We have an awesome team coming up that can possibly make another run at a state title.Only time will tell.
  3. I'LL agree on that coach shelton has done a great job at cosby.I think coach ensor at unaka has also done a great job both coaches have turned their programs into tough contenders.
  4. if hampton is going to come out on top this friday they can"t come out and play two bad quaters and two good quarters they are going to have to come out and be a first half and second half team if they are going to go all the way this year because they have the talent to play with all the other top teams out there so pull together and get the confidence of knowing that you all can play with the best and show all those other regions that you all are for real good luck and GOD BLESS YOU ALL
  5. I dont think hampton is overconfident but if they dont get over the first half jitters they could very well lose this one.Hampton needs to score quick and often to set the tone If you let a team like harriman hang around they could be in trouble. And for goodness sakes someone tell JC that you dont have to punt on third down.you better play every down with a team like harriman.
  6. Those bulldogs played a pretty good game last night except for a few mistakes and a slow start they looked pretty good,I dont like to criticize but Whats up with j.c and that quick kick crap on 3rd. down I never have understood why he does that if you ask me that is just a waste of downs I think if i had a team in the playoffs i would make good use of every down.anyways good luck with harriman next week.does anyone have any info on the oneida player taken off the field in the ambulance?
  7. I think cloudland needs to take their time and not make any hasty decisions on the coaching job. whoever they pick needs to be someone that believes in discipline and hard work and can get the kids out for football and in the weight room during the offseason, its going to take dedication from the players and coaches to get the program back on the right track.
  8. I think the petition thing was just another rumor someone had started. So many things went wrong this season with all the injuries and the lack of experienced players. Then you add in the unrest among the coaching staff and there were plenty of those rumors flying too.And you have an old school coach that is under alot of pressure to make something good happen with a young inexperienced team and then he has a son serving in iraq that alone would make it impossible to concentrate on coaching.I hope that anything i have said about coach keith's coaching ability was'nt taken personally,If they have then i offer my apoligies to him.I just dont like old school football ive seen so many of coach orr's teams lose alot of games due to their inability to generate enough offense to win a game they could have or should have won. im used to seeing cloudland running multiple offenses and dominating most of the teams they play.Good luck to coach keith and his family and God bless.
  9. I dont think this was a real big surprise ive heard rumors that keith may be retiring next year anyways. As i said before I think coach keith is a good guy and other than him not having any experienced players I believe alot of his problems was that he is an old school coach and things have changed alot over the years. And when you dont live up to the previous standards you're gonna catch alot of heat regardless of the circumstances,I know i wouldnt want to be a coach.I wish coach keith the best in the future. From what ive seen cloudland football will be back on track soon if they have the right leadership, also i want to say congratulations to the jr. lander team and especially to my kinfolk number #18 and #25.regional small school champs 10-0 this season Junior 'Landers take first Regional football title By Tim Chambers Star Staff tchambers@starhq.com Like sitting down to a T-bone steak and a buttered baked potato after an appetizer, Cloudland saved it's best for last which proved to be fatal for the Rogersville Warriors. Behind a potent ground attack led by Matt Cole and Casey Pritchard the Highlanders won the TMSAA's East Tennessee Small School Championship 41-21 Monday night at John Orr Field. Cloudland finished the season undefeated at 10-0. Cole carried the ball nine times for 157 yards and three touchdowns while Pritchard rushed for 90 yards on 10 carries with one score. Cloudland gained 315 yards on the ground. "Our kids came out focused and ready to play," stated Highlander coach Ford Baker. "Every player did their part because this was the best game we've played all season." The Warriors (8-2) failed to move the football on it's opening possession then shanked an 18-yard punt that gave Cloudland great field position at the 45. Behind the dynamic duo, the 'Landers marched 55-yards on five plays capped off by a five yard run from Cole who tacked on the two-point conversion for a 8-0 lead. Pritchard broke two tackles on a 24-yard jaunt that helped set up the score. Cloudland hit paydirt again in the period after a 21-yard run by Cole help set up a seven yard touchdown run by Pritchard. Tyler Shell delivered a spectacular block that led to Cole's gain. The Warriors answered on it's next possession when Zach Bray broke free for a 43-yard touchdown run that cut the lead at 14-6 with 7:51 remaining in the half. After a sideline revival from coaches Ford Baker and Scott Potter, the "Roan Mountain Regime" made a statement on it's next drive. "We preached in practice that it would take a team effort all week," added Coach Scott Potter. "The defensive guys played their positions and didn't allow them to get anything cheap. Our offense was definitely getting the job done on that end." A 25-yard run from Pritchard setup Cole's second touchdown of the half from 28-yards out. Another bone crushing block from Shell allowed Cole to make his way to the end zone. The Warrior ground game came to a halt after Lucas "Pork Chop" McKinney disrupted their offense with two tackles in the backfield. Cloudland extended it's advantage behind a 58-yard run from Cole with 3:21 remaining in the half. Anthony Chambers found Josh Cordell on the two point conversion for a 28-6 lead. The party continued with .11 seconds remaining in the half when Tyler Shell bulled his way over from the one. Kevin Stevens split he uprights for a 35-6 halftime advantage. The Highlanders delivered the knockout punch at the 6:16 mark in the third after a 30-yard run by Potter led to a nine yard touchdown by Cody Clark that increased the lead at 41-6. From that point the Highlanders emptied the bench with reserves playing the remainder of the contest. Rogersville added two touchdown runs by Bray and a couple of two-point conversion that accounted for the final margin. Bray had a good outing rushing for 100 yards on 15 carries. Cambren Gibson added 70 yards on the ground from his quarterback position. The Highlander line consisting of Cody Presnell, Tyler Dyer, James Ollis, Stevens, McKinney, Cody Bullwinkle, Elijah Buchanan and Cordell was a key reason that the team rushed for a game high 305 yards. Chambers ran the offense to perfection. Another player that stood tall was cornerback Ronald Banner who accounted for 10 tackles. McKinney was credited with 14 stops. Danny Arnett, Colby Gwyn, Jonathan Hill, Dacota Maney, Richie Winters, Dylan Hayward and Jordan Cazzonay all gave good efforts the entire way. The win was sweet for team manager Eugene Johnson, who happens to also be the 'Landers biggest fan. "I love it, we're number one, the best," stated Johnson with a huge smile on his face. "I'm proud to be a Highlander." Baker and Potter was quick to extend their thanks to the high school coaching staff for helping them with their efforts. They also praised the student body, faculty and fans for all their support. "Everyone has backed us including parents, cheerleaders, coaches and others and this has really meant a lot the this group of kids," stated Baker. "It doesn't get any better than this," added Potter. "We'll encourage all of them to go on and play for the high school next season. They will be a great group to watch in the near future." ------ Cloudland, 41-21 Rogersville 0 6 8 8 -- 21 Cloudland 12 23 6 0 -- 41
  10. Oneida has been a spoiler for cloudland on several occasions,I always wished cloudland could have played them during the mark byrd era so we could get some revenge but it never worked out that way.ive noticed that hampton is a slow starter so they better come ready to play or their season might get spoiled too.I'll be there pulling for the bulldogs, good luck hampton.
  11. Pujo,I kind of figured it was an accumulation of things as to why your brother left but you know when the rumors start you will hear anything. You are absolutely right though about cloudland someone needs to step up and get the kids motivated and help them understand if you're going to be successful its going to take dedication year round not just during the season.Cloudland does have an abundance of talent coming up I have a nephew and a cousin on the jr. high team who are both tough kids and good players and hopefully i can keep my son interested long enough to get him out on the field next year he would make a good linebacker or running back he is tough as a pineknot.I just hope the coaching staff can pull it together and get the program going in the right direction
  12. There may be some truth to that irish ive heard many rumors that lunsford wanted his son to play somewhere he would have a better chance of getting a scholarship and maybe he didn't see that with the future cloudland teams who knows why he really left.I dont know much about what went on in the locker rooms but i do know when they came out of there they seemed to listen to what he said cause they usually played alot better.Hopefully cloudland can turn it around next season Good luck to the landers tonight and hold your heads high theres no shame in losing as long as you give it your all.
  13. J.C. is still there because he was there before most of us were born and the man has alot more winning seasons than losing ones thats also true that lunsford was at hampton first and when he left nobody cried about it because hampton didnt want lunsford there and if you ask me lunsford and cloudland made a big mistake not trying to work out their differences.I bet you if J.C. retired tomorrow lunsford would get skipped over for the head coaching job in favor of somebody local or who has been there longer, thats just the way it is theres too much politics involved. As far as coach keith goes i think alot of people thought as many years he was lunsfords assistant that he would pick up where lunsford left off and keep coaching lunsfords style of football but instead he went back to his old mentor john orr"s old school style of football and that just dont work unless you"ve got some big lineman and punishing backs.coach keith is a good guy and probably a decent coach but he is not near the motivator that lunsford is and the kids gave 100 percent for him thats not happening with keith.neither the players, assistants,or the fans are buying into his system of coaching and thats going to make people criticize him even more, lunsford built a dynasty at cloudland and its going to be hard to live up to everyones expectations, whats hurts the most is us cloudland fans are not used to losing,we have enjoyed so much success in the past its hard going from the penthouse to the outhouse.
  14. theres no doubt that hampton is going to win this game.heck they probably already know what plays cloudland will be running, everyone else does.I think its sad when the other team can memorize every play in your playbook, can anyone say john orr football
  15. pujo, you know what cloudland fans that were on the sidelines were a select few that resented your brother making the move the hampton i dont think it had anything to do with the team, i think they were just taunting your brother which you are right it was just plain wrong I saw alot of cloudland fans including myself and also the cloudland coaches sitting on the hampton side cheering for the bulldogs.just so you know not all cloudland fans should be singled out.I bet you if you ask a few of those now they probably regret it i know alot of people wishes lunceford was back at cloudland.
  16. Pujo,I think your brother is as hard core of coach you'll find anywhere. But i think he cant coach effectively where he is now because the parents just are'nt going to let him.i think hardcore coaching is what makes a team better, parents just take things too personal if their kid gets yelled at a little especially if the coach is from a different school or community.here is a good example of a hardcore coach who got fired for apparently yelling at a kid during a game.I think its ridiculous if you ask me.Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 - TriCities TN/VA Search TriCities.com Gregory: 'I’d like to have my say but just not right now' Wednesday, Oct 18, 2006 - 02:00 AM BY DEBRA McCOWN Send e-mail BRISTOL HERALD COURIER Email to a Friend Printer Friendly ABINGDON – Former high school football coach Ray Gregory would not comment Tuesday on the loss of his coaching contract and his future plans. The Washington County School Board voted late Monday to fire Gregory as head football coach at Abingdon High School and to transfer him to a teaching position at another school. The vote followed a month of controversy that saw Gregory suspended after parents complained about his treatment of their sons. Reached by telephone Tuesday, Gregory said he would not comment until after a meeting next month with lawyers and the school superintendent. "I’d like to have my say," he said, "but just not right now." The board went into a three-hour executive session late Monday to discuss Gregory. When they emerged, just before 11:30 p.m., they voted 6-0 to terminate the coaching contract. Board member Elizabeth Lowe abstained because her son plays on the Abingdon High School football team. The board also voted 5-0, with Lowe and Buckey Boone abstaining, to transfer Gregory to a teaching position at Wallace Middle School. "I can’t comment on it," said School Board Chairman Curtis Burkett. "I know that people think I’m being evasive, but as an employee of the system, he’s entitled to privacy, and we have to respect that privacy." Superintendent Alan Lee also refused to comment. Gregory, a graduate of Patrick Henry High School, returned to Washington County last year to coach Abingdon after more than two decades coaching college and high school teams around the country. The team is 4-4 this season. His mother, Barbara Gregory, said he’d planned to stay and eventually retire here. The murmurs among Ray Gregory’s relatives and supporters, as they awaited the decision Monday, were the same that have rippled through the community since he was first suspended with pay last month. Player parents and Gregory’s relatives wondered aloud Monday what he did and whether the School Board would explain its decision. Gregory yelled at players who removed their pads before the end of a 53-0 losing game on Sept. 15 against Richlands. Some parents of players have said he cursed at their sons; Ray Gregory’s parents say otherwise. About two dozen of his supporters attended the meeting; no critics spoke. "I don’t think I’ve ever heard him say a curse word," said his father, Danny Gregory, adding he raised his son with discipline – a trait he says is important in football. School officials have kept quiet on the subject, as has Ray Gregory. "If my son had been at Patrick Henry or any other high school, this never would’ve happened," Barbara Gregory said. "It’s because it’s Abingdon." In 21 years of coaching, she said, her son never had a problem. "This is a witch hunt after my son," Barbara Gregory said. "He’s been under the microscope from Day 1." She said that when a group of parents first met with high school Principal Jeff Noe on Sept. 18, she was told her son would never coach another day at Abingdon High School. Frank Kilgore, Ray Gregory’s attorney, said that because high school coaches are at-will employees, they can be fired from coaching at any time, with or without reason. Thus, he said, Gregory has no legal recourse with regard to his coaching position. Kilgore said, however, there have been no formal findings of wrongdoing. "It can happen to any coach across the state of Virginia at any time," Kilgore said. "I think that given his experience in coaching, it won’t be hard at all for him to get another coaching job." Kilgore also said he is communicating with the School Board attorney to lift a restriction preventing Ray Gregory from being present on school property. Gregory’s son, A.J., is a junior and a member of the Abingdon football team. "If my son was fired from this position for yelling, then you’d better fire every coach in the county," said Barbara Gregory, Ray Gregory’s mother. "Everyone’s laughing at Abingdon because of this." But his aunt, Peggy, said the rest of the story will eventually be known. "It’s gonna come out," she said. "Just keep your ears open. It’ll all come out." dmccown@bristolnews.com | (276) 791-0701
  17. harriman wont stop the davis kid, coalfield 28-14
  18. even if lunceford was head coach at hampton he would still be considered an outsider and the hampton parents just wouldnt accept their kids getting his butt chewings he was famous for at cloudland. If you ask me i think thats what made cloudland so tough and most of the parents at cloudland understood that and the ones who didnt, well they probably do now.
  19. If cloudland comes ready to play and i think they will. landers 24-21 I also think the morgan kid should get more carries than what he does that kid can move.
  20. I've seen both teams play and have to say Cosby has a couple good weapons but hampton has an arsenal of weapons, they're not just a one man show.this game will test both teams. MY PICK IS HAMPTON 42-21
  21. hey maynardette, you probably dont know me either but i do remember watching your son play,he was a pretty good quarterback.I dont really know you but ive read your posts on here.you are probably one of the best fans we have i've never seen you post anything negative about anyone on here, i would have to say you're a credit to the community.I get carried away on here sometimes myself when i should just bite my tongue and try to keep a positive outlook on how things are going.if you would like to say howdy at the game i usually sit on the hill beside the grandstands with a few of my friends,im usually wearing my tennessee jacket. GO LANDERS
  22. hopefully there will be alot of people at the game.I am definitely going no matter if we win or lose,we cant give up on our team just because we are going up against a seemingly unbeatable opponent.you know what they say that any team can be beaten on any given night, you never know what might happen. GOOD LUCK LANDERS
