Bulldog....you make some great points, some i agree with, some i dont. If I was sitting on your side of the stands right now, I might feel differently about some of them. One point that I would debate however was your "wallet" comment - if you were talking about MBA or Ensworth, i would say that you were right on the money, however I would bet (not literally of course...everyone knows CofC'ers don't bet) that the economic dynamics of DL are not much different than that of most of the 3A publics. We have some rich kids but the lions share of kids at DL are there through a significant financial sacrifice from their parents. As a matter of fact, the public school that my kids are zoned for is significanly richer (monetarily) than is DL....but enough of that....lets play football.

Daniels is a great coach and will get the Page program to the point where they will beat Lipscomb.....some day. Not this year though.

Gimme.....I think you missed the point. I don't think that you will ever see anyone complain about someone taking a charge. You are right when you say that it is rare to find someone with the skill to properly take a hit.....A flop is when you fake the charge......when the player "flops" onto the floor when there has been no contact. Nobody likes to see that and if the refs catch it, it is supposed to be a Technical Foul.

I have not followed Lipscomb baseball in a few years, but aren't they considered contenders every year? I know they have a bunch of state championships. Maybe things have changed, but seems like they used to field a really good ballteam every year.

Most, if not all of the whining will be from students, because they haven't lived long enough to experience the ebb and flow of HS basketball. I'm a DL fan, I've had 2 kids play ball and graduate. I have 2 kids playing ball there now. I've seen enough games over the past 10 years or so to know that if this game had been played at DL, we most likely win. Is it a case of the refs deciding to job DL to give P-C the win? No. The refs who worked this game are hard working, conscientious guys who love basketball....but the general, unwritten rule seems to be when in doubt on a call, err toward the home team. Always has been, always will be...until we get SEC caliber refs here in Middle Tenn and I'm not holding my breath. That is why you rarely hear coaches whine about the bad calls - they know that they need to play good enough ball so as to take the refs out of the equation. DL had a great run in the second half just to get in position to win...and should have.....but that is High School basketball....Ain't it great?

I am surprised and sorry to see this quote. I look forward to this rivalry for the next several years. Two well supported schools that enjoy watching their teams play, travel well and generally display great sportsmanship....as well they should since they are both Christian schools. I won't comment to the Slater thing as several others already have...he is a great kid...but what in the world would the DL coach have done to elicit this comment? He really is a good guy.

Will MBA and David Lipscomb boys be in the Metro 9th grade tournament? I know both of them had awfully good 8th grade teams last year.

twill be hopeless for Vandy1....he has numbers 1-9 in the bag, but will never master the bagpipes...come to think of it, he is a big ole bagpipe.

The bagpipes are a Lipscomb tradition dating back more than a thousand years. Glen MacAdams is scottish as is the Lipscomb family and the bagpipes played a big role in the Battle of the Auchard back around 900 AD. This was historically significant because it was the first battle primairly determined by club wielding victors mounted on war ponies. The scottish clan rode McMustangs. The MacAdams and the McLipscomb clans were in a heated battle with the hated Saxons. As the battle raged, a thick fog enveloped the battlefield. The only way the Scotsmen knew which way to charge on their McMustangs was the haunting and mystical sound of the scottish bagpiper. The Mustangs have had the bagpipes play prior to each battle henceforth. Surprised you didn't study this in school.

I agree....awesome story. I wish my dad was still alive to share this one with....he played in the 50's and would have appreciated this one.

I know that both schools will bring good football teams to the game, but if we want to enjoy a band at halftime, i hope Giles County brings one since Lipscomb cannot....evidently the Lipscomb band was put on double secret probation at the end of the last football season, and has not been seen since.

Thanks Stealth...that was Lipscomb basketball. Rarely do they have the athletes, but ALWAYS have execution. You can say that the game was at Lipscomb all you want, but that was not their gym....the good old TSSAA negated the whole reason these teams scramble for the region championship.....However...great game Bolivar, great team, awesome fans and fan support, great town. That is what Tennessee high school basketball is all about. You have the DL family pulling for you in the 'boro.

Evidently the tournament officials left it up to the coaches on whether or not they were willing to try to brave the snow and get the game in. Cleveland's coach and parents were game enough that they were willing fight the elements. The game was moved up to 3:00 so that they would have enough time to get back home afterwards. From this DL dad, congrats to Cleveland for being willing to ride the bus for several hours, step off and into the gym to take on a good Lipscomb team. Also congrats for a great run over the last two years. Your boys are talented and good sportsmen as well. Thanks for the game.

Oh....they are about 15 points better than Cleveland...

Pageman.....your updates are greatly appreciated by those of us stuck behind a desk. Everyone around middle Tenn knows of your love and support for the Pat's but hope you can take some satisfaction in the job that Jason Brock has done this year for the Mustangs.....

He does not hurt his players, you've just got know Coach P. First, he went to Lipscomb University and played baseball under Coach Dugan, the Vince Lombardi of the baseball world. Also, we don't kiss at Lipscomb, it being a Christian school and all, so touching by pushing his players to the line is his way of showing affection....its the Pickens version of Lipscomb Love.

lol....QueenBee is succinct as usual. I am an 8AA dad and I would like to thank the 7AA folks for hosting a great tournament. The parents from LA, as well as the administration went beyond the call of duty several times. I know that it is hard to keep coming to the gym to work the gate and concessions after your team has been eliminated (I know this from experience), yet our hosts this past week continued to be gracious. I don't blame the kids from 7AA who have been on this board all season long anticipating another gold ball and talking big about it....7AA has won darn near all of them since these HS kids learned to walk. From my standpoint, we have now played the hardest tournament there is....now our girls can go to Murfreesboro and have some fun. Thanks 7AA and good luck to all of your girls next year.

Ragland and Gator...you are both right. Jones is a heck of a player and did not deserve the the T, when viewed in hindsight and in isolation - however - put this all in context. Would the ref EVER try to skew their calls so that the "nicest" or "more deserving" team won? NEVER. That said, in a few games a year when the game turns on a bucket or call late in the 4th qtr - that is when you do not want the ref mad at you, your coach, the bench or the fans. Whining the whole night resulted in the T. These refs are dentists and insurance salesmen who love the game and love staying involved in HS athletics. They don't show favortism, however, they are human and if you keep making them mad, it will usually come back to bite you. As I said earlier, there is a right way and wrong way to yell at them. I also heard that two of the parents verbally accosted a couple of the refs after the game. That is sad. SC....your kids are ok - your parents need to grow up.

Perhaps it is in the creek water up there or something. Or perhaps they are just too new of a school to have learned some of the unwritten rules that have been handed down from previous generations of parents at older programs like DLHS. The SC girls soccer parents behaved the same way the last couple of years. There is a time and place for getting on the refs. If you start at tipoff and never let up, whine and complain about every call, then all you have done is tic off three refs, and usually that comes back to bite you at an inopportune time. I have learned that if you let a ref know that he made a bad call, when in fact he made a bad call and he knows it and now he knows that you know it, you will often be rewarded shortly thereafter with a make-up.
