  1. From what I have heard UTC is excited to have Hampton make the decision to join them next year. He is "long" and a natural defender. He has an unbelievable up side in basketball and will be someone that UTC will not have to worry about! They are getting a great kid who will play for them once he gets a little more strengh and weight on his 6'0 frame. Good luck to Dontay and UTC!
  2. CSAS has been like a "yo-yo" when it comes to classification. We started out in A for 4 years then moved to AA('91) for 4 years. We went back to A ('95), back to AA ('99), then back to A in a couple of years ago. We have competed in both, but we are traditionally an A program. We have about 455 or so students right now. Who knows what will happen.
  3. But it would be fun to have discussion about what is coming up in the new year, how players look for the summer, etc.
  4. It was listed in the Legislative Council notes from their meetings. I would like to see Coacht open the basketball boards in late April and May to discuss Spring Basketball like we can with Spring Football.
  5. The month of July for basketball has NOT been changed.
  6. I saw the change involving the five days of spring practice in the minutes from the legislative council on the TSSAA webpage but I did not see anything about the change of what you could do in July. Does anyone know where this information is coming from?
  7. I thought that the month of July was for conditioning only.....no open facilities.....kids have to go somewhere else to shoot.
  8. I thought he went to UTC but never played because of injuries.
  9. All magnet schools are NOT ALIKE. CSAS was the first magnet school in the state of Tennessee. It is a k-12 school and DOES NOT get its pick of middle school athletes. It is very hard to get admitted to school there as there are long waiting lists in most grades. CJ Black who played at Brainerd and Tennessee is an example of someone who was a great athlete but was never able to get off the waiting list to be admitted. The kids and coaches at CSAS just work very hard to be competitive, no more of an advantage than most other schools. I do understand that this is not the case at all magnet schools though with some being able to choose students later in high school.
  10. Also, are the basketball guys going to play football again? When is their spring game and who is it against?
  11. The reason that Temple got off "light" with the TSSAA is because there were several who changed their mind and would not go on the "record" as to who/what Temple did. There are still things going on in Highland Park even today. Don't be surprised to see something else "exposed" before it is all over! I am still personally trying to figure out how the kid from Alabama got eligible. He is supposed to be a "dorm" student, but I have heard from numerous sources that he is living with a family from Temple, not the dorm.
  12. Is the multiplier going to continue to be used after next year?
  13. Who are the "good" kids that did not play at Temple last year that will make them better next year?
  14. Any school (s) that drop from AAA to AA will have a "domino" effect on A schools since the entire list is basically divided into thirds.
  15. Arts and Sciences has been A more than they have been AA. They have enjoyed success in both, but in my opinion, AA is the toughest classification to compete in basketball which is their main sport. Time will tell where they end up, it will probably be close one way or the other. Teams like Howard, Brainerd, Tyner, Hixson, and East Ridge have traditionally played AAA but have stayed in AA the last two classifications even though they always were able to compete at the AAA level.
  16. The number of schools moving up from A to AA would also be affected by schools like Alcoa who traditionally move up to AA. Also, any new schools that have opened since the last classification will be figured in I guess. I know that the numbers for CSAS will not go up and may go down a few students depending on which numbers they choose to use, as another possible factor.
  17. One factor to also consider is whether or not the multiplier is going to continue to be used. I thought that I saw where Ronnie Carter wanted the multiplier to be discontinued next year. Does anyone know if it will continue to be used next year and if so how it will affect the classification?
  18. I think they are playing better, whether its even just a little right now but i guess momentum would be a better word to describe them right now. They're on a winning streak and after beating grace have momentum going into tonight's game. Also while csas did "start the season off a bang" I think that the closer games between temple and grace are attributed more to their improvement than csas falling off.
  19. I find it funny that everyone is quick to blame the grace loss on the coach. Jon is a great coach and had his team prepared very well. Grace played very well but just ran into a very good csas team. Its easy to point fingers from the bleachers and becomes a lose lose situation for the coach, meaning its either the coach's fault for the loss or the teams talent for the win. Grace is not going to get a new coach nor should they enough said. Moving on to the game thursday, i predict csas by 8. It could be more it could be less, i just feel that csas is peaking again at the right time.
  20. When is the boys championship game? Where will it be played?
  21. The winner of grace and csas matchup will win the region, and will be the only region 3-A team to go to state. While not completely ruling out temple, the fact that they couldn't beat pickett at home more than likely leaves little to no chance of winning at pickett. That means although a rematch would be a journalist's dream, its not going to happen.
  22. Any team can beat anyone on any given night, but i don't see a 21st Century team that couldn't beat an injured and beat up silverdale team posing any problems. 21st without their point guard who left the team earlier in the season leaves them without a solid ball handler which is never a good thing against csas.
  23. Can anyone who was at either of these tournaments give the scores and details of the games? Thanks.
