Top priority is what happens in the tournament, so it was important to get Stephens back into playing mode. That was far more critical than this meaningless game. Coach Norris made the right move.

Alot of offense/defense switches. It has its pros and cons. Maybe be a little frustrating for the players and breaks the momentum when things are going well. But, it keeps everyone fresh and puts the right players in the right position. Does it work well for them? Seems to, and time will tell how it works for them this year.... :>

I am talking about the top athelics, they don't need to move to a smaller school to get more playing time. I can say this because my son did it. It was a different sport, but there were several others on the DB team that were also zoned for the county.

Actually its worst for South. Good prospects that live in Sullivan County frequently go to Dobbins Bennett, so actually South loses players that way. For Maryville its the opposite, they attract the prospects from their county and outlyng areas.

On the fumble I also wondered why they tried to pass when it was first and goal at the 7, when they were running the ball so well at that time. That fumble deflated the air out of South. Your right on your classification question. Maryville is actually larger than several 5A schools right now.

Of course it includes all 4 classes. What I meant is it started with the present Sophomore class, the enrolled was taken in 2006. The difference is not insignificant, 1381 for Maryville and 1056 for Sullivan. Thats about 30% more, so to answer your questions in makes a difference of about 3 starters on each side of the ball

Based on the 2006 figures (includes the sophomore class, not the freshman class), Maryville clearly jumped the ranks and should be in the 5A bracket. Right now they are larger than several 5A schools including Campbell County, McMinn, Ravenwood, and Gallatin. On the other hand, Sullivan South is at the other extreme. They could be a 3A school as, for example, they are smaller than Seymour which is 3A. Maryville enrollment (2006) is 1381 versus 1056 for Sullivan South. Maryville's time to shine is now, once realignment takes place the playing field will even out.

You didn't have to be at the game to see the blown call. They showed it about a million times on the TV for a whole week after the game. The cam shot right under the uprights clearly shows it was a blown call that won the game for Maryville, but let this subject rest. We are not here to talk about M Vs WB, but M Vs. SS.

I'm not saying South can come in here and just roll on M. I just think, living here in the Knoxville area and seeing enough games of teams in this area, they the caliber of the teams is a little down this year, and that this could be the year for an outside team like South to pull an upset. The key for South is not to get too excited and lose their head, which can result in bad plays and turnovers. If they play within their game and treat it like just another (important) game, they have a shot.

If this was last year you would be right in your analysis, except you and others are apparently forgetting that Maryville has had some vunerability this year. Some of their games were close, like the 1 point win against Wiliam Blount on a bad ref call, and fairly close games against 4A rivals Halls and West in their division. The line on Maryville at the beginning of the season is they lost alot of key Seniors from last year and they could be beat. Good coaching and player development, along with some good luck, has given them an undefeated season so far. I do believe they can be beat, however.

A distinct difference in talent between the two teams. And the best part of OR is they only have 2 seniors on the team. Actually the bulk of their best players are sophomores.

Two good reasons. First, the forum topic is Greeneville VS DB. Second, Tennessee High is 1-2 vs SH and 2-1 against DB. (You need to get your facts straight). They also lost to several other teams, so they are not rated as high based on their record.

In the last two times Powell played OR, Conner had off-games. His time is due. I could see the game going either way.

The results of this game mean NOTHING so quit talking about it everyone. I would be curious what reason the Clnton coach had for doing what he did. It seems very strange!

He was pumped up for sure. His leadership and intensity on the floor was something special. C-N got a good pickup.

It will be DB, Science Hill, and Greeneville in that order. DB has the deepest team with the most quality players.

You had the spread right but not the right team. Halls was off target in the first half with Sharp only scoring 4 points. He lit up in the 2nd half though to score 31 for the game. He was penetrating and OR defenders were not closing the lane. They also tended to foul him at the end instead of making off the ball fouls to get others on the line. The senior experience of Halls showed versus the young group from OR. All in (H)all(s) a good game but I think OR was a little embarressed losing in their own court like that. Oh - I think the refs tended to respect Sharp a little too much. He pushed off alot and it was not called.

Greenville is ranked 4th in the News Sentinal among local Knoxville teams, so they should not even be in the top 10 in a state ranking.

The 6-6 sophomore Jordan Edwards from D-B will be a real player. The kid is coming on.

One more thing. Since I am making an argument that the central east teams are stronger than the far east teams, why would I make a deliberate error (saying Science Hill made the State last year instead of Beardon). No offense, but the fact that you would ask me if these folks are rated versus Wiggins/Wattad tells me you are not very knowledgable of High school bb.

Your right there is alot of competition. I like Halls chances but probably Farragut or even Beardon even better. Oak Ridge, who game from 9 points behind to beat Maryville tonite 54-48, also has a shot. In the far east - I'd take D-B I suppose.

Powell lucked out last year making it to the playoffs. They are much better this year though with Connor averaging about 26 points per game. I would put him up against Wiggins or Wattad. Besides, its a tem game, we should be focusing on that.

Oh - meant to say Beardon not Science Hill - I'm still thinkng about the SH/Greeneville post topic. Lets see - last AAA winner from the east was Cleveland in 97. Then there was runner up Bradley Central in 03. Bradley Central has another shot this year.

You hear the argument because its true (I was speaking of AAA). There are several ways of evaluating the weakness of the "far east". For example, the last state winner was over 10 years ago (Science Hill in 1995). A far east team almost always gets beat pretty bad at the state level. Look at last year, Hamilton over Greenville 64-46 and Raleigh Egypt over Science Hill 72-60. There are several good players from the Knoxville area. Conner from Powell, Sharp from Halls, and, of course Oglesby from Bradley Central. Greeneville and Wiggins are over rated because they play weaker competition through much of the season.
