  1. Well you can not back up MUS would beat Alcoa....so you quit claiming too. Since the game will not happen, try out Cal preps for size.........Compare Alcoa, MUS, Ensworth, South Panola, and Olive Branch! You'll be surprised what it shows.........and I guarantee they have it figured out better than you. I agree, they do. Thanks for the idea. Let's see they got MUS #1 in the state and Alcoa #3 They have MUS 23rd in the country and Alcoa not ranked in the top 25. Great point, thanks!
  2. Thanks for the info Rebel folks By the way - cool website - why ya'll dropping Santa Clause out of a helicoptor onto the Westview game?
  3. Gerry - 1st of all - Love you work and thanks for this info. How would it be possible if the playoffs where today for Manassas to be a #1 seed with a 8-1 record and Milan to be #2 seed with 9-0 record? I just don't see how that could happen......any insight? Cause right now Milan is technically 2nd in their district behind Crockett and Manassas is first in their district. Now say Milan wins on Friday and Manassas wins. Since they are both # 1 in their district Milan would win the overall wins tiebreaker. You are seeded based on where you finish in your DISTRICT not subdivision. Which stinks for some teams. That makes the crockett game HUGE for Manassas. So, if Man wins and Milan loses and they both end up 9-1, than Man gets the 1 seed over Milan because of district finish regardless of the rest of the tiebreakers. Frankly, as a Manassas fan, this is great, but even i don't think it is fair. At 9-1, looking at Milan's schedule vs. Manassas' and the tiebreaker system, Milan should get the #1, but we will take it!
  4. All of the score comparisons are very interesting - math and all- and compelling, but it doesn't change the fact that Alcoa is not the best team in the state. Memphis University School, however, is. Since you are into math, add this up: MUS beat South Panola High at Soth Panola - telivised on ESPNU. Why would ESPNU televise the game? Simply because SP has had 23 players from their team play in the SEC, ACC, BIG TEN, Or Big 12 in the last 7 years. We aren't talking just D-1, we are talking the best of the best. They had not lost a game at home since 2001, and have been ranked as high as 7th in the entire country. MUS broke that streak. Then, Olive Branch, Mississippi's second best 6A team, who has 4 SEC commits already this year got beat by MUS at Olive Branch 2 weeks later. MUS has the state's best QB, and 2 RB's who's offer list is ridiculous. They play in a stadium that would make many small colleges jealous and destroy everyone that comes to visit. Now, frankly, I don't like MUS. They recruit like crazy and it starts in the 7th grade. So, I'm not MUS homering at all. But, Alcoa would be a 20 point loser to them. Be happy that you will probably win another state title and quit claiming what you can't back up.
  5. If u guys draw Westview then you got the shaft. Don't let the record fool ya. They are good. I suppose we just outplayed them defensively. They had a chance to get back in the game but we came up with a huge defensive sack best i recall. If you guys have speed, which i assume you do, that will go along way. Westview's cage just got rattled off the start and it seems they have settled down. Better ask Butchie, he is the Guru. Well, Butchie - you are thge Guru, what do you say?
  6. Hello from Manassas Hate to break in on your thread here, but we thought you fellas may have some info - we are told by our coaches that it is almost a lock that we will host Westview this year in the first round. We don't know anything about them and saw where yall beat em earlier this year - and we were just about sure you usual suspects were there. what do they run on offense? Do they have much speed? Are they big up front? What did yall have success with to beat em? We got a tough draw last year in the first round with you folks, and it looks like that luck is repaeting itself. Any info for us to starting chewing on about yalls game will at least give us some barber shop talk. Good luck in the playoffs.
  7. from a coach and some players - I am sure about 1 OFF lineman, afullback and a linebacker, but am told a few others are out this week
  8. Like everyone else has said, this is very helpful for us novices trying to figure out what is going on, so I don't mean at all to be critical here, and this point in the grand scheme probably won't matter much, but BTW will not be the 6 seed in quad 4. They will lose this Friday and Oakhaven will win, making each 2-3 in district and Oakhaven beat BTW, so for accuracy sake, Oakhaven will be the team out of district 16. Also, Manassas has a BUNCH of starters hurt, a few for the season. If they lose to Kingsbury and end up 8-2 and second in the district, what would that mae quad 4 look like - assuming Milan beats Crockett? - I can't figure it out.
  9. And there is more to parenting a football player than making anonymous criticisms of the coaching staff on a message board. Like volunteering to help? You do realize of course that funding for the football program has been reduced at the same time as they have expanded the program to 6 teams with varsity and jv in HS, MS, and 5th/6th grade? So be a great tcaparent and volunteer to help the team be all they can be. I guarantee Coach Hodum will welcome your help. So a lack of volunteers caused the 3-5 record? If you are in coaching you have to expect criticism and most of the time it only helps. I can say, without question, that the tough schedule has now come back to haunt TCA. I can also say that this team is much better than 3-5 and sitting at home for the playoffs, and if that is the case, which probably everyone on this board would agree with, then it can only come down to coaching. Some of you people are truely unbeliveable. Your coach has done more with less over the last 5 years than any team we have faced. Frankly, we have had twice the talent that you have ever had and you are up 3-2 over five years - only because of coaching. I am involved at Manassas in a mentoring program and have been for 6 years. The truth is playing teams like TCA has made us better. If it has been said once by our coaches it has been said 100 times that with the talent our teams have had that if we could be as disciplined and played with the heart that Hodum's teams have had, then putting that with our talent would give us a chance to make a playoff run. TCA doesn't have the talent to beat Union City - but they did. Forget the last couple of games and look at the man's body of work and it is clear that not only has he done a great job, but his kids play their hearts out for him - oh - and he happens to have killed himself to build that program. You keep it up and you won't realize what you have until its gone. Do you actually think that TCA is some dream job that good coaches are standing in line for? JEEZ! Let's see. You get to coach 3 teams completely under staffed, you get to cut the grass, paint the field, make the schedule, man the weight room, go up against teams that have twice or three times the student population that you do, and then get told that you are 3-5 because you are a poor coach after a muderous schedule with only 3 seniors on your team. Yep, in fact I think you should go ahead and run him off now because that job description will have em lining up at the personeel office as early as Monday morning. Especially considering the support he is clearly getting, heck Lou Holtz may come out of retirement for this dream. You folks are a piece of work and candidly should be ashamed of yourselves. I hope he does leave - you don't deserve him.
  10. I must read it different that you - acccording to the TSSAA website we have 5 and you have 4. At least that is way I think I see it. Tell me if I wrong on stats. A question regarding the rest of the quad. It appears that Westview has the best chance at a wildcard - so do they automatically get seeded 8th, since they are a wildcard, or would they get seeded according to the tiebreaker? It makes sense that even if both Camden and Milan lose, each would be the top 2 seeds - so who would be their opponents. Frankly, Westview would be a tough first round draw for a 1 or 2 seed, but it looks to me like that is what would happen if they are the wild card. Am I missing something?
  11. i would love to see it too. although i would be walking toward the gate about mid 3rd qtr. due to the mercy rule being in effect because the dawgs were trouncing you guys. dude you just don't know what's gonna hit you when your up against the best non private in west tenn. The best non private in West Tn? Are you serious. You guys have a great program and have for years. I love the way the town supports your team and on Friday night you guys have not just a game, but an event. Also, you have been kicking inner city Memphis teams' rear ends for years, and we all know it. But you are a far cry from the best non private team in West TN. That purple cool aid they are feeding you is impairing your judgement. At the 3A-4A level, you have earned the right to make that statement and year in-year out it is true. But, you wouldn't beat Germantown, Whitehaven, Mitchell, or White Station. They simply have many more bigger faster players and each would beat Milan, therfore, you are not the best non-private in West TN. As Far as Manassas goes, all of you West Tn teams think Manassas is the same program that used to ride up the road for a $2000 check, some pizza, and a whoopin. That was 5 years ago, and a bunch has changed. You have the established program and history, so you would certainly be the favorite, but if you think Manassas can't beat you, then you are in for a big surprise. Keep underestimating them and you will be walking torward the gate in the fourth quarter with with a crow's tail sticking out your big ole mouth!
  12. Alcoa's Jaron Toney has 30 Touchdowns though 8 games. He only played 1 qtr and score 5 td's this week, but added close to 100 yards in game 8. He would be way over 2000 yards if he played 4 qtrs in all Alcoa's games. Preptxa stats with not all schools reporting stats for game 8: W. Hazelhurst (Clinton) 8 142 1244 8.76 73 17 J. Toney (Alcoa) 7 116 1118 9.64 86 25 C. Travis (Pigeon Forge) 7 166 1095 6.60 66 13 D. Cozart (Catholic) 7 126 1021 8.10 76 9 D. Fuson (Claiborne) 7 159 969 6.09 53 17 Omar Williams - Sophomore - Manassas High - Memphis, TN 8 games - 106 carries - 1098 yards - 10.4 Ave - 15 td,s Would put him 3rd on this list - Only got 6 total carries in first 2 games and hasn't played in the 4th quarter in the last 3 games - Bright future.
  13. Check out OC Brown for yourselves. Manassas High School - #77
  14. I'm not sure I'd leave out Goodpasture out? AND, do we really believe Manassas don't have a chance? But, I agree Camden/Milan would be my favorites. Nobody believes Manassas has a chance - except Manassas. HUGE and ATHLETIC O line - Very fast defense, and 4 guys on the offensive side of the ball that are 4.5 ish. This senior class is 23-6 over the last 3 years and as freshman - 11 started as freshman - remeber playing Milan, Ripley, Haywood, ect. They aren't imtimidated and after the Mckenzie loss in the playoffs last year, feel like they have something to prove. Ask the MCkenzie folk if Manassas can play - Oh yeah, 17 starters returned this year from that team. This ain't what folks think out there and these kids look to prove it.
  15. While true, this statement does not genuinely reflect the point you are attempting make, that being the players are not as talented as they are being portrayed throughout this thread. The University of Tennessee in Knoxville has offered zero players who are participants on a football team in class 3A and so there is almost no point to you even posting this. In fact five players in the state of Tennessee have offers from UT, one a DII player, one in 4A, two in 5A, and one in 6A. So now I will proceed to address other issues presented throughout this thread. I’ll start with the comparison of OC Brown to Tyler Robinson. Both are very good players but while Brown’s star ranking is more illustrious most observers deem him to be over rated, he is a very large person with good skills but many observers think he is too raw, this is why he is lacking an offer from UT. It was inferred that his offer list was more grandiose than that of Robinson’s but this is in fact untrue. They each hold an offer Kentucky and each have one other BCS offer according to rivals (Brown-Colorado, Robinson-Virginia Tech). What is largely holding Robinson back is that he at this point he cannot be projected solidly at any one position. No one questions his catching ability but his speed is a concern if he will play TE at the next level. To play OL, where many project him, he would likely have to gain 30 pounds. He could play DE, but again his speed off the edge is not elite and about 15-20 pounds would need to be added to play DT, and then you question can he maintain his speed to be effective at that position. With that said Robinson is the better player at the high school level and he won last year. It would be very difficult to argue that he is no longer as good as he was last year. The comparison of Robinson to Aaron Douglas is a bit of a stretch. They are of similar build and do have similar abilities but Douglas was simply more athletic than Robinson is. Douglas was faster and moved lighter on his feet and their ability to catch is very similar. Douglas was not moved from TE at UT because he was inadequate, he has as of the TE skills of Cottam and Stocker, but the new staff saw potential for him to become an elite tackle and I believe that is certainly possible. No other back as shown the ability or production of Jaron Toney and he without question deserves the award of Mr. Football more than any other player but, the players at Milan were probably better hyped in the preseason and one of them could very well win. The most likely scenario I see playing out is Toney winning the back award and Williamson winning the lineman award based on his linebacking credentials. I do not agree with a back winning that award but there is precedent for it with Chris Donald in 2006, but I honestly can’t say Williamson does not deserve to be Mr. Football. Interesting name. However, you miss a couple points on OC Brown, and recruiting in general. You have read too much Junior year stuff. Yes, he was high projection, but considered raw. Some things have changed. He spent his entire summer at camps from LSU to the University of Oklohoma and Universities in between. His rawness is largely replaced. He is now the same very powerfull, fast 300 lb lineman, but has vastly improved his technique - as his noted by recruiters all over the southeast. The reason he has not been offered by UT is becasue of the position he projects at. He is 6' 2.5" heels down and barefooted. To play tackle, the best of the best (UT and others) are not interested in a kid under 6'5" anymore. However, they will consider a 6' 2" kid for a Center/Guard spot, but they recruit many fewer interior guys like that because the 6' 5" guys that don't make at tackle are typically moved down to Guard once they enter college. So, if you will look at Riva1s lists, it is why they seperate the Tackles from the Center/Guard positions in rankings. By in large you will note the main difference in the 2 lists is height. Riva1s didn't do this to be cute, rather they recognize through relationships with college coaches all over the US that the 2 groups are considered and recruited much differently, so rivals ranks and lists them differently. UT will not offer OC Brown. He doesn't fit with what Kiffin is looking for. However, there are 4 other SEC schools that he is expecting offers from and most probably will recieve within the next few weeks. Now that that is cleared up, OC Brown is the best offensive lineman in the state of Tennessee in 3A ball. Riva1s thinks it, anyone who has seen film of the leading candidates agrees. Also, Robinson is the best TE in the state in 3A ball - can't reasonably disput that either. The rub is that you are comparing 2 very different positions and having to chose between the 2 in an unfair comparison - for both kids. Both are great at what they do and neither would be able to replace the other at their respective positions. Both have SEC offers which demonstrates genuine upside and both bring with them the accolades of coaches, fans, and peers regarding the way they handle themselves on and off the field. For someone to get on here and say 1 or the other is hands down more deserving is either a homer or an idiot or both. We should celebrate each kid for what they do and who they are and what thier future is going to be and hope the vote is a tie.
  16. UHHH, kick a what? - You should see what those guys have tried to find a kicker - even considered a girl - IM NOT KIDDING. At best it would have been a 50/50 proposition and After the game our coach said he just had more confidence trying to punch it in. I have spent a fair amonut of time around the program the last few years - mentoring program- and trust me when I tell you a field goal would have been a bigger crap shoot than going for it. Oh well - that was then and if anything came from it, two very different programs from opposite ends of the world sure found some respect in one another. good luck the rest of the way.
  17. Awe, tell the truth. If you actually had an extra $2500, you would probably blow it on drinks and the juke box at the Gay Hawk. We still talk aboutthat game around here - you realize it was 4th and goal on the 6" line - - close to say the least. We see yall picked up right where you left off. Good luck the rest of the way - wish we could get one more crack at ya - it would be a great game no doubt. We feel like moving from A to AAA, we are still not getting much respect and are looking forward to playoff time - we hope not to be one and done this time around
  18. I agree. The TSSAA absolutely blew it with 16A. Let's be honest, neither Douglas (who is in the show) or Westwood (who will get in by beating MUHS) are really playoff worthy. They would both finish at the very bottom of 15A, 14A, or 13A. It is inexcuseable for a 3 team district to get two teams in the show. Especially when they are as bad as Douglas and Westwood. With that said, good luck to MUHS. A victory by them on Friday would open up a playoff spot for a much more deserving team, no matter who that team is. I'd like to see the TSSAA combine 15A and 16A into one "region" like they have with a few other smaller districts. Doing this would certainly weed out any unworthy teams from getting in and taking spots away from more deserving teams. The problem is the other teams. I agree that a combo should be done, but the hard truth is, the non memphis teams don't want to come to play in memphis. SO, they lobby to have a Memphis district and non memphis districts. Frankly, most Tenesseans think Memphis is the biggest city in Mississippi - in other words, there is the Memphis thing, then the rest of the state. Truthfully, I don't blame them. Our fields are terrible- except fo the new Melrose facility - and it is a long ride home after playing here. I can't tell you how many times memphis teams get offered money - $1000 - $2500 to move their home games to the opponent's place. It has happened at Manassas 4 times in the last 2 years when we played in a A region that included TCA, Fayette Academy, Middleton, and Halls. That illustrates just how bad teams really don't want to play in memphis. So, when the ADs get together to make districts and decide who plays who, Memphis almost always ends up with thier own district. And like I said, that makes some sense and I really don't blame the other rural teams. But, they also don't have anyone to blame but themselves come playoff time because their desire to stay out, may end up biting a deserving team. Bad situation all the way around.
  19. Districts will have nothing to do with it. Once they select the playoff field for a classification, they will group them in quads of 8 based proximity to each other. They will then rank each quad 1 thru 8 and higher seeds will host. You might have a 5-5 or 6-4 district champ or runner up traveling to a 7-3 or 8-2 wild card, depending on the computers ranking. I would think they start in upper east tenn. and take the 8 closest qualifiers for the 1st quad. Come toward Knoxville and take the next 8. Teams in the same district around Kingston area could go in either direction. Teams from the same district may be split up to keep the quads balanced. Thats how I read the break down. Are you sure about this. I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm really just asking. I thought that Wild Cards automatically got lower seeds than qualifiers. Actually, I am almost sure that is right. So once the wild cards are figured out, then the quads are drawn, then the seeding is qualifiers first by the tie-break system, then the wild cards fill in. So a 3-7 team that wins their district could host a 7-3 wild card team. In fact, I think that will happen out west in 2A. Clearly ridiculous.
  20. yeah that is where I got the map of all of the 2a teams listed on it. You guys can throw a big monkey wrench into it if you win against riverside. If so it coud rearrange alot of things. Good luck to you all up at TCA. I think that the real monkey wrench will be thrown in by Memphis Westwood. They have not won a game all season. All they have to do to become playoff eligible is to beat a start up 1A program in MUHS. There are only 3 teams in that district including Memphis Douglas, who has already qualified and will get an undeserved high seed. They will end up with the #3 overall seed in the west quadrant when they most likely would have finished dead last in 15-A district play. If we beat TCA, it looks like Riverside would still make it as a wild card. Someone would have to be shipped east. Using logic, Riverside would be the choice for the ride. you guys have a real problem in the west. I have seen both Westwood and MUHS play - They are both terrible , but Westwood will win. That makes both Douglas and Westwood qualifiers (Westwood at 1-9) which will likely steal a wildcard and leave a good team out. However the other 4 teams left in are going to get a chance at a very nice first round draw The TSSAA really kicked the pooch on this one
  21. Sounds to me like both players are very good and very deserving. It is also going to be a tough call given that 1 player is a tightend at 225 lbs and the other is a 300 lbs interior lineman. It is hard to compare the 2 and unfortunate that they are so dissimiliar. It is hard to compare apples with oranges, especially when giving an award for the best in the state when actually they are probably the best in the state at their respective positions, which aren't very comparable. Maybe they will play together next year at UK, that would be interesting.
  22. OC Brown also holds an offer from Kentucky, as well as Colorado, and USM, and 9 others -
  23. I read that , too. But where else did he get offers from?
  24. Could someone post some riva1s clips or some tape on the lineman from Alcoa, please. Or - give us out west a way to see some footage. We keep hearing the claim the your guy is the most dominant lineman in the state, and considering that OC Brown and Stone have far more college offers, then it would seem that the real experts (college coaches that do the recruiting) disagree with you, but some of us would like to make our own determination by seeing something. You can see all you want of OC Brown and maybe before making claims, you might do some research.
