  1. Kenwood needs to do a better job in free agency. That game is totally different without Tyrone Nesby's kid. Darius Brown, former Kenwood kid, was the difference in the game. It's a luxury having a 6'5 monster athlete dumping the ball down on a high low to a 6'8 Kentucky signee. They went on a 10-0 run in the third quarter that consisted of 3 Poythress dunks and 2 dunks by Brown.
  2. I can't believe that this game has not been mentioned on the message board. Kenwood's gym will be rocking tomorrow night when Northeast visits with two of Kenwood's former players now playing significant minutes for the Eagles. First game was dictated by officiating and if the big man is deemed untouchable then it will be difficult for Kenwood to pull one out. However, if the refs let them play a little bit and treat him like an SEC basketball player that will be playing for the #1 team in the country next year, I think Kenwood has better than a fighting chance. If Poythress can't handle a little physical play in District 10-AAA then he will have a big problem playing in the SEC two times a week. I realize he has little to do with this and that it is primarily on the officials, but I just hope to see a good game called with no "Jordan Rules".
  3. I find myself reading this thread day after day in hopes that OpinionDad has made another post. I was excited to see that, not only did he make another post, it was equally ridiculous to those of his earlier statements. It should be pointed out yet again that, when you reach the high school level in sports, it is no longer about everybody getting equal playing time and playing for fun... Mandatory or not, if "Little Johnny" doesn't play summer ball he is only hurting himself and his chances of being a contributor on his team. If he is the only one not trying to improve their game over the summer, he will undoubtedly find himself a team cheerleader and passing out water and sunflower seeds from the dugout. $250 is reasonable and if your family has a problem with the financial part of the situation, most coaches will work with the student/athletes and their parents on these matters so this should not be an excuse. To touch on the commitment aspect of this.... Winners, both individually and team, must have a certain level of commitment. It usually works out that those who are most committed are most successful... If you are not interested in your child being a winner, then competitive sports is probably not for you and your child. This isn't the Bellevue rec league where they don't keep score. At this point in your child's career, score does matter and wins and losses are a reflection of their coach. Your coach is a winner. He drives an hour both ways each day to try to improve your child as a player. You just sound like an unappreciative whiney dork when you make comments like this. My hope for your child is that he is learning more about baseball and life from his coach than he is from you.
  4. And the trend continues... A small group of turd parents are trying to ruin what could be a beautiful sports marriage. Please understand that playing high school athletics should be considered an opportunity and a privilege and is voluntary. Your job as a parent is to support the coach and the school and is not to try to stir the pot or get someone fired because you do not agree with them. As stated before, if your problem with the coach or the values he is trying to instill into your child, which you apparently have not, is an issue.... GET OUT! Coach Jones was warned of these types of isolated ignorance and accepted the job knowing that he would have to deal with a small number of loud mouth and opinionated idiots. This is a man that is good at what he does, hates to lose, stands up for what he believes in, and will not change nor run out of Kingston Springs because of ridiculousness such as this... I would expect that opiniondad would most likely call the school board and complain about Coach Jones facial hair, the way he wears his hat, the times where his is the only car in the parking lot (he must be doing something wrong), or that his signal for steal requires him to touch his nose or ear or Heaven forbid BELT. If that doesn't work, maybe opiniondad will throw dead squirrels (or goats) in the back of Coach Jones truck since he doesn't live in the Woodlands... Do your thing Coach Jones, if it doesn't work out and all else fails, maybe you will end up in a school district where they actually pay you for your efforts, allow you a full planning period, and have athletes and parents that make you feel the appreciation that you deserve.
  5. I can assure you that studentsection1 is not Zach Crowe... Having known Zach personally, he is a very humble young man with a ton of heart and guts and has put in the work to accomplish the things that he has. Whoever studentsection1 is, probably respects and appreciates him the same way I do. It's easy to find yourself rooting for someone that does things the right way and deserves it!
  6. You guys are right... I should have kept my mouth shut and will do so... Just hate to watch the student-athletes involved struggle and and show no progression. However, I will continue to attend as many games as I possibly can to support these kids and hope they are able to accomplish what they have proven in the past to be capable of, not interested in doing any favors for you DoctorDish... My money and support for these girls are as welcomed as your own.
  7. I have seen him in action several times this year. He needs to get off the bench and coach his team. His players deserve to be instructed and helped through tough games. His apparent lack of interest is disgusting after having watched Harpeth play for years. Chances are he doesn't pay attention to this coacht stuff, but if he does happen to read this, I challenge him to coach up his girls. He's not doing them any favors by sitting with his legs crossed on the bench. I'm referring to the two games against Sycamore (a legitimate opponent) in which his team lost by a combined total of nearly 60 points.....
  8. The real winner in this signing is Lee. They are undoubtedly a quality institution but they just inked on of the most underrated post players in the mid-state. You would be hard pressed to find a more dedicated and hard working young lady in the post than Karley Miller. She will be an immediate contributer and will improve an already solid Lee basketball team. As mentioned before, she is also an outstanding student, and more importantly an equally dedicated Christian. She is one of the most well rounded individuals I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I can't wait to see the impact she has on that team and on that campus. I'm so so proud of Karley and know she we will be a blessing to Lee.
  9. Look for Karley Miller from Harpeth High School to be a huge contributer for the Lady Indians this year. She has been a four year starter that began getting interest from area NAIA schools after her freshman season. Now that she is a senior and a capable leader for the Indians, I would expect big things from her.
  10. I am a big fan of several of the kids and coaches at Harpeth but can't understand how they could expect to win ball games without being able to control their attitudes. Some, and by no means all, of these young men have been told their poop don't stink all their life by their parents so they just expect to walk out on the field and do things their own way rather than listen to the coaching that is being provided them. Is Doug Loope the next Vince Lombardi? No, of course not. But I can assure you that he, and several veteran coaches on his staff aren't teaching these kids to be little cry baby punks when they take the field. It was easy to see that they are talented enough to beat a team like East Robertson, but they had in the neighborhood of 6 personal foul penalties that shows a lack a discipline and understanding. Can they not see that when the penalties add up like that it can cost them the game. The problem is if the coaches try to coach and instill in these kids the fundamental things that could make these kids young men and winners on the field of play, it might be grueling or uncool and the child would likely run home to mom and dad and degrade the coach. At some point mommy and daddy need to stand behind the coach and understand that a high school coach wants their student-athletes to be as good or better than the parent does because their record is reflected by it. No coach would intentionally steer a kid in the wrong because that kid on their team is a direct reflection of the coach and his staff. Unfortunately, in that area of the world dead goats are thrown on the lawns of coaches and in other sports if a group of kids does wrong, one must be the sacraficial lamb while the other wrong doers and their parents maintain that their sweet little Johnny would never do such a thing. (hmmm hmmm, baseball team) And then the coach is to blame because the parents must find someone to blame besides their self for their poor child rearing... Or maybe the best way is to have the parents jump in on their children's business and start fights with the opposing baseball team or storm the court after a basketball coach because you don't agree with a strategic decision made. From the time Marshall Winkler and Coach Brown left, that football program has gotten what the community deserves, not the children. The kids don't realize that they are being stripped of valuable life lessons and work ethic because when the going gets tough they can just cry about it and there are no consequences. Or they can just yell at the officials or cheap shot the opposing team and pick up costly penalties and continue to struggle for success. I wish the student-athletes the very best, especially those who work hard with their nose to the ground day in and day out. Your parents should be proud and I am sure they are, but they are not as noticable because they aren't having to make excuses for you in the stands... e.g. Jacob Connatser, Zac Douglas, Andrew McWright, Travis Tice, Seagraves, etc... I'm rooting for all you guys regardless and hope when you start to turn thing around you see the correlation between hard work and positive attitudes and winning.
  11. Nathan Forrest, Harpeth High School, is a tremendous returner for the Indians. He is a lefty that throws high 80's low 90's and is being heavily recruited by some nice DI schools. He should really excel this year with a new coach who will whip that team into shape.
  12. Smith must have spent hours in the gym this summer to improve because I spent several days watching him and feel that professor chaos is not accurate in his assessment. He is without question a gifted athlete and a terrific finisher around the basket, but I saw a more well-rounded game overall than what professor chaos is giving him credit for.
  13. no info but he has got to be better than the last guy
  14. Saw Demarius Smith play this summer and was very impressed and also surprised that a player of this calibur could go virtually unnoticed. He should have turned some heads in AAU and has undoubtedly been contacted by some DI programs but why wouldn't some of the local in-state schools try to jump on this kid? If you haven't had the opportunity to watch him play, he is well worth the price of high school admission.
  15. Renee was a very proud mother who fought to see Trey and Tyler graduate. I was excited to hear that she was able to go on a cruise with Trey earlier in the summer and know that both of the boys had to know how special they were to her. Indeed a sad situation but her personality will always shine through in her boys. I know she will have an eye on Trey at Carson-Newman.
