  1. It will be interesting to see how the new school does in this region (almost as interesting as the fact that no one is saying anything about them). Their girls success was surprising to most. Wonder if the boys will do the same.
  2. What happened? Silverdale won. EHS played very well for the first part of the first half. SBA looked good too. EHS controlled the game and possession for the first twenty minutes. There were two distinct mishaps in the closing minutes of the first half and two goals for SBA. As soon as SBA scored, you could see EHS stop playing. EHS worked very hard but the girls' mental toughness was tested...and failed, IMHO. There were three individual errors that led to three far too easy goals and one own goal.
  3. We all know how players will respond to the question "would you like your stats to be in the paper or not?" All I know is that there are well-respected coaches (respected by myself anyway) in our area who do not submit individual player stats to the press. Only these individual coaches can answer why they choose not to but I assume it is for the reason already stated: I know several coaches who leave their "star" players in against weak opponents to rack up tons of points.
  4. Bad luck continuing for the Hurricanes. East Hamilton lost more starters this past week due to illness and injury. I heard that coach's select team is suffering greatly from the flu as well. Is this a problem anywhere else?? Never seen it this bad.
  5. Removed original post at EHS coaches request...sorry I will say that EHS had respectable games against Baylor and Notre Dame. Baylor game was a 1-0 game. ND game was scoreless until the last 9 minutes when injuries caught up with EHS and they had no subs.
  6. Removed original post...sorry coach
  7. I will drink from MJUHBs kool-aid (if he thinks EHS is 8th in state in A/AA surely they are in Chatt top ten overall): 1. Baylor 2. GPS 3. Notre Dame 4. Chattanooga Christian 5. Soddy Daisy 6. East Hamilton 7. Cleveland 8. Signal Mountain 9. CSAS 10. McMinn County
  8. Exactly my point. I do not. But I do think its ridiculous that theere are four different tournaments to determine four different state champs. And I would think that is one reason why the rankings during the season hold interest - euro has an overall poll just as mjuhb does but those team will never meet in a playoff to determine the best overall. But I wonder why do people put so much trust/stock/interest/discussion in rankings from one person. Isn't it more extreme or ridiculous to think that one person has an idea of what is going on in ALL OF TN. I was shocked at the number of conversations that circled around weekly rankings on a blog site. When euros were brought up the reaction was...well...extreme from people that are apparently regulars on this site - "Euros are laughable. Euros mean nothing. Etc, etc, etc." I was surprised, especially when euro is collected from many coaching voices around the state. I was merely stating a case and using EHS as an example because it is the team that I know the most about. I do think that the playoffs answer all questions...just surprised at the extreme reaction received when I posted the euro rankings. In posting them here I felt as though I was "treading on someone's turf." That is my point.
  9. I have removed my original post. This is going nowhere.
  10. Hope you are not implying anything negative towards EHS with our Sequatchie game. There has been far worse. Check out scores on euro in a/aa this year alone in the top ranked teams section. EHS game was 5-0 before you could blink. Coach M made immediate subs, I heard he put restrictions on how the girls could score, and second half they possessed the ball for the first twenty-five minutes. There were saves to be made and the keeper simply let the ball go through her hands.
  11. I agree with almost everything you said except for the part that you think all their math teachers are certified. Well that isn’t true. Teachers at the private schools don’t have to have the state certification. I know several qualified and competent teachers from private schools but they don’t have the certification from the state of TN. As for the EHSoccer comment, I really dont care about rankings they dont mean anything. Like our football coach said last week you can't put a paper on the field and win a game....... Everything will play out by the end of the season and the best teams will still be playing while others will be watching. I think it would be great if EH can make a run into the playoffs. smeagle- I hate message boards. I was typing in jest. Sorry if it was not received as such. We would love to make a run. I do think that you can get a second chance at ND. It will depend on how CCS and ND plays out. When and where will that game be played. Could play to other teams advantage if ND hosts district at their place. As for East Hamilton, Coach M is doing a great job and am thrilled we have him. but I think even he wold say that our girls have a lot to work on if we want to get out of districts. Our youth shows in games against the elite (ND and Baylor, for instance - though I still wish we had been at full strength in those games).
  12. Never heard of someone whipping for votes so much on a blog site. wow. Does being on the outside looking in of mjuhb's rankings bother you that much. The only thing that matters is the playoffs, Smeagle. Not a bad result, though it was ND coming onto your own turf and winning by that two goal margin you mentioned. ND and CCS will come out of that district (district 7?). They are the teams to beat.
  13. BigG- Coaches are suppossed to continue submitting their rankings to Euro, and that is how the top 11 gets established. Our coach told me he received an email from the person in charge of the euro rankings letting Coach M know that he needed to submit his rankings for the first week. MVM - The rankings currently on Euro are not last years rankings, at least not the A/AA and AAA. If you look at the game results you will notice they are this year's game results, that everyone in the top 11 was previously NR - not ranked - and that the results are for the time period "11/02/08 - present." I understand everyone's appreciation of the rankings found on here. I have just always understood that Euro rankings are rankings sumitted by coaches. Some coaches may not be letting their voices be heard (not emailing smyrna coach @ smyrnasoccer@yahoo.com). Maybe the person on euro's end is doing a bad job at communicating with state coaches the process, etc.
  14. You were told wrong. Nobody on here considers Eurosport's rankings remotely accurate in either boys' or girls' soccers. For the legitimate rankings, check here. As a sign of how messed up their rankings are, note that Catholic is ranked in A/AA. This is wrong because Catholic is in AAA. Euro is still getting things figured out since TSSAA changed some zones/classifications - that is why there are some teams in the wrong spot. I look at the rankings you referenced for a source of entertainment (reading people's whining and moaning) but know of few people who consider them "the legitimate rankings". They are one person's thoughts on a message board, period.
  15. See below for euro week one rankings. Okay. I am told that they are the most legitimate rankings because rankings are based only on the submissions of head coaches. So, how in the world is Seymour ranked in the top ten in a/aa with 20 goals allowed, 5 losses, 4 goals scored, and 0 wins?? David Limbscomb ranked with a 1-2 record. Not to mention the fact that euro has Seymour listed as a AAA team (or has the AAA rankings available on their team page) as well as an A/AA team. Am I missing something? 16. It was surprising for me as well - even with one sub I thought it would be a 5-0 or 6-0 game. EHS just could not find the back of the net. Score could have easily been 4-0 or 5-0 at half. EHS legs definetely got tired with no subs as the game wore on. But as you said, a win is a win. I think that EHS is looking forward to getting everyone healthy and moving on. Heard that Coach M gave the girls Friday off to get healthy. Good job to ERHS for battling to the end. They have 4-5 soccer players that could be dangerous if the team was more organized. EHS...Please, Please don't get caught up in with Notre Dame folks, thinking that you must beat every opponent by 5 or 6 goals for it to be a successful outing. CAUTION...You are entering the ND spin zone. Fair enough and well said. Don't think that there is any fear of getting caught up in that particular frame of mind with it being our inaugural season. A win is a win and a big step in the right direction. Just heard through the grapevine that players and coach were frustrated with the lack of finishing on that particular night.
  17. Exactly.....keepers can make a lot of plays without being credited for a save. Also a shot that hits the crossbar is a shot, not a shot on goal. Basically a shot on goal is either a save or a score. A keeper punching out a corner kick in all likely hood is not a save, but can be a great play. A slow roller that can easily be picked up is seldom counted as a save in my book. Some of the 'scoring' of the keeper is subjective, just like ruling a hit vs. and an error, but I wish there was more continuity in the stats. You guys are correct on shot definition. I keep the stats for my daughter team and we define a shot as being "on frame" which means that the end result is either a save or a goal. Typically a shot has to occur within the "18" unless it is a direct kick off of a foul which is put "on goal". We do count punches out of the "6" as saves when they are served into the "6" off of corner kicks, crosses, or direct kicks. This should be consistent with college scoring. If the goal keeper comes out of frame (goal) to receive a ball, it is not a save, a good play yes but not a save. Also, balls where the keeper clears the ball out of the "18" are not counted as saves either. 40 saves is almost impossible (a shot every 2 minutes) unless one team so totally dominated the other that the ball hardly ever crossed mid field. My point exactly. I don't think the Franklin County keeper had 40 "saves".

  19. Any prediction for Tuesday's game against Notre Dame? It should be better than last years games. SM is playing well right now and they are still a very young team. They are doing much better this year controlling the ball. Last nights shots on goal were SM 44 and Franklin County 6. I must say the Franklin County goalie got a workout. I'm sure the shots on goal will not be this lopsided on Tuesday. Should be fun to watch. 44 shots that were all on goal! Wow! Congratulations to the Franklin County keeper for making 41 saves - or perhaps you are counting total shots. Sounds like SM has EHS challenge, lack of finishing. Our finishing % was in the dumps last night as well. Girls had tired legs, though...only one sub because of illness and injury. 21 EHS shots to ERHS' 1.
  20. East Hamilton almost postponed their game with East Ridge tonight because the flu bug hit their team. Coach Millard had only one sub for the game but managed to pull out a win. EHS dominated play but could not find the back of the net. East Ridge did not have a shot a goal. EHS had tons of shots, tons of corner kicks, but only managed to find one goal. I think coach is just looking forward to the long weekend to get his girls healthy. EHS has had some bad luck with injuries and now illnesses. Heal up girls.
  21. Yes. ND controlled the game - as much as you can control a game that is labelled a "pinball" game. EHS did not pack it in and the ball did cross ND's 18 more than once (I recall several times that EHS' right wing had the ball in the corner in the first half alone...but no one supporting her quick enough). I suppose I was wanting to see a little credit given to the girls for holding ND scoreless for 70 minutes. Seems that whenever an unexpected score pops up that might favor (though still a loss in this case) the "little guy", the spin from the other side is how much they controlled the game or how much the other team packed it in or how the "little guy" never got into their half, blah, blah, blah. I just thought our girls came out and gave one of the top teams in A-AA state everything they could handle. ND had to work very hard to win that game. No one has said that yet.
  22. EHS keeper made only a few saves - played very well. Just saying that shots were not to be found for either team. The EHS keeper claimed several crosses/ill-advised thru balls, but Notre Dame had only 10-12 shots on goal for the game. Field (horrible!) hurt EHS speed on the outside also. True, though, regarding EHS' chances on goal. They had some good counters in both halves that could have led to great chances while the game was still scoreless but just could not seem to finish the build up. Soon as ND finally found the net (less than 15 to go), it really seemed to "take the wind out of the EHS girls' sails". Both teams seem to be searching for what to do in the last 35 yards. Season is still very young, though. Who was missing for EHS?? And who was hurt for ND? Hope it is nothing serious I stopped counting at 13 shots in the first half. 6 were on frame. Same story in the 2nd half. The ball rarely reached across the half line to ND's side. I was not told which starters were missing, just that a couple were. JM subbed quite a bit to keep his girls fresh, but they ran out of gas at the end. The game was stopped for a good 10 minutes because of the injury. Not sure how you could have missed it. Not questioning that there was an injury. Just wanted to know the name of the injured girl(s). You count shots? Wow. What about the number of consecutive passes? Or perhaps 50/50s won? Your shot count sounds almost right. Shots on goal, though, is what I am referring to...ND had around 12 shots on goal for the game. Keeper touching the ball doesn't make it a shot. Hope the injured girls are okay. I know that ND hopes are high this year.
  23. EHS keeper made only a few saves - played very well. Just saying that shots were not to be found for either team. 24. I was a bit short in my reply ..... I do think the young EHS team has heart and will improve and give many teams a great match. Baylor's starting lineup has 6 sophomores, 4 juniors and 1 senior. Not exactly a veteran squad age wise so they will also develop/get older/etc. The "younger girls" up front and in midfield are 1 sophomore and the rest freshmen. I mean no disrespect to EHS, and as both of us have said, they will compete. But I don't see EHS winning any games against this Baylor group at least until the sophomores graduate. But then again, this is soccer, and anything can and usually does happen. Agreed. Just hopeful that our girls can continue to develop and eventually compete with/beat "chattanooga's best". Playing Baylor, Notre Dame, and GPS in three consecutive days is certainly a bold move. Coach Millard is unwilling to back down from an invitation/challenge. Game with ND was a different story from Baylor. Girls came ready. Fans should be proud. EHS girls looked less tentative - they seemed slightly intimidated to be on the field with Baylor - and took it to ND. Seems that they are still learning what it is to play together and, while it was more back and forth than the Baylor game, they will need to work on creating genuine chances to score. Game with ND was scoreless until the final 10 minutes and the Hurricanes were not packing it in. EHS clearly ran out of gas. Simply not as deep as other teams. Interested to see what happens with this team as the season roles forward.
