  1. That's Jeff Thurn with the accent, he's from South Dakota so that's where the long a's come from. The color guy is Rich Dragon who coached at the Citadel, he is very knowledgable and has the ability to break down a play from every position's stand point. I've been working with 560 and they decided to pick up all of the Ensworth games, I liked when the students did it but they have really stepped it up this year. Thanks for your good words!
  2. I'm pretty sure that would mean duel possession, which goes to the offense.
  3. I've been reading a lot of posts regarding Ensworth's TD calls that put them up for good against BA and Baylor and how they were both blown calls by the officials. Under further review, I found that both may be completely justified. While Cory Batey's foot DID come out of bounds, he was forced out by the DB. The force out rule still exists in high school and as I learned tonight, so do 5 yard face masks. Here's a screen shot of the catch against BA, it look like #5 has made contact with the WR before he stepped out of bounds. Regarding David Dingess' catch against Baylor in the back of the endzone, it appears like he had full possession and was in bounds. I don't have the highlights yet but I can post them tomorrow. Here's a pic from highschoolsports.net, no feet but it sure looks like he has the ball. A friend who was watching the TV feed in the pressbox said the replay showed it as a catch. Duel possession goes to the offense.

  7. Hard to say, MBA has a big and loud one but they have been in some trouble as of late. Father Ryan at last year's championship game was scary. I've seen Mt. Juliet's in hockey and was better than Ensworth's on a night when they are playing a lesser opponent. From what I've seen from video Sullivan South is huge. Briar crest in the state tourney also had a rocking one as expected.
  8. It was pretty bad, Bars knew what he was doing. The correct calls were made, William Gittens, the player fouled may have a mild concussion but that's it. It was uncalled for but it happens, the worst thing that we can do is whine about it and make it into a bigger issue than it really is. Bars lost control of himself, it wasn't Anglin's fault. Bars is just the guy that goes 110% every minute but he needs to learn to hold back a bit. Colbert had a hard foul late in the game that was called intentional, there wasn't any malice but he didn't make an effort to go for the ball. That's something Coach Anglin should of told his team in a timeout. MBA has not been able to silence Ensworth's bigs, Connor McDermott and Daniel McFadden. MBA relied heavily on perimeter shooting which isn't consistent to the point where they can beat a team like Ensworth by jacking up threes.

Commits to Penn State, wow. Good for him.
  11. Committed to Tulane today, glad to see him end up there.
  12. Not sure where your getting your initial observation (though I understand the judges are giving credit for the answer "An enormous well of bitterness.") It was a one TD lead in the 4th quarter and 2 TD's with 8 minutes left, pretty similar to how things looked against your team at the same point. Recall, if you will, how that turned out. That said, clearly the better team won. MUS doesn't look at all impressive: they're not especially big. Going back to the '70's, they look like a modest AA team. I probably wouldn't have to look very long to find a larger 9th grade team. But their execution is impressive. Aside from a late hit out of bounds on the first possession (probably nerves more than malice), they made no real mistakes. MBA had their chances, and certainly the weather favored them (Brunetti couldn't have been at all comfortable out there). MBA really only made one mistake of any consequence. But MUS didn't make any. Congratulations to an outstanding MUS team on a well-deserved championship. And congratulations to a very scrappy and overachieving MBA team. Excellent game and excellent season. Look, if you can't get pressure on Brunetti you can't win, and MBA didn't and they lost. MBA's offense started well offensively in the second half but there was no way MBA could get back in it with the way they played defense in the last 24 minutes.
  13. Really wasn't much of a contest in the 2nd half. Brunetti had all day in the pocket and just eventually knifed through the MBA secondary. Congrats MUS!

  15. I haven't seen them, although their record pretty much speaks for itself. RRR described them as fairly unimpressive in street clothes and only a little more so dressed out. But, they have a couple of very good football players, surrounded by a team full of good athletes. They execute well, and don't help their opponents much. In a word, they're well coached. I felt like MBA needed to play to near perfection to win the past two games. In each game, they've made a game-costing mistake (fumble for TD against Ensworth, late hit out of bounds to keep a TD drive going against BA), only to see their opponent top them (Ensworth coaching error, BA fumbled punt and missed PAT). MUS's record over the past two years, coupled with some of the teams they beat this season, suggests they're unlikely to be so helpful. I would say the same thing about this one that I did about Ensworth. MBA needs to play about as close to perfect as possible for mortals, and they'll probably need some sort of mistake by MUS. If both teams play to their potential, I think MUS takes it. But I wouldn't bet against MBA right now. I feel the same way, MUS is so good but you just have a feeling that MBA will find away to win this one to.
  16. Talk about missing my point completely...
  17. You're right, the only reason MBA guys don't like BA and EHS is because they have racial diversity. I'm amazed at how judgmental and how completely ridiculous that comment is. I don't like EHS and BA because of the way alot of their students carry themselves, not because of the color of their skin or how good they are at sports. Good luck with your little blog, and I'm glad you cannot wait to move on to "writing" about basketball, because I am so glad I won't have to read about what you think you know about football anymore. 1. I never said it was the only reason but it's definitely an issue. When a student section chants U-S-A after they stop your running back with a weird last name even though he almost just went for 60 yards is kind of ignorant. 2. I write for Rivals High. I have had articles featured nationally. 3. "I'm amazed at how judgmental and how completely ridiculous that comment is. I don't like EHS and BA because of the way alot of their students carry themselves" Right back at you. You can certainly make that argument for any private school in Middle Tennessee. 4. My comment does not fit all MBA students, some of the greatest guys go there but some of them just have a lot of hate for EHS for the reason you stated and go even further with the ones I have suggested. Once again, congrats to MBA!
  18. No, they missed the kick. You really have to feel for the kicker. Most of your writing is good. Your penultimate sentence is a little beneath you. Some of our students aren't really football fans and don't care much for the game. They just come out to support their school and their friends who play. If you aspire to be one of the top programs, don't expect to be loved, and don't expect a lot of condolences on the rare occasions when you lose. Wow, Renfroe has been pretty consistent throughout the year, but in high school you never really know with kickers. MBA is very fortunate to have Fletcher. I am just talking about some of the students that don't like EHS and BA because of all that recruiting BS and the fact that they have racial diversity, I don't want to high jack this thread too. I don't mind students cheering for their friends that don't know much at all about the sport but just the guys that really want to rub every little thing in. As far as the team goes, they're really just a bunch of good guys. ANYWAY I am anxious to read about this one, I really just want to move on the basketball but I'm thinking about getting in touch with Lassing, Bars, Fletcher, Garlington and Caro and write an wrap up since these guys all seem like they can play at the next level.
  19. If the score is correct on the site's scoreboard it looks like BA missed the 2pt conversion in OT. MBA wins 42-41. Congrats on the turn around. With a few exceptions I really like this team, they really have some good kids. However, some of their students don't really care about football as much as they do beating BA or Ensworth. But that's high school for ya.

  21. Ensworth biggest weakness is their depth. They're a small school to start out with so many guys that want to play football. Ensworth made some mistakes down the stretch in the MBA game and since they have a lot of 2 way players the defense was gassed on MBA's final drive.
  22. I beleieve the incident occured a while back, maybe 40 years ago. It's not a 40 year ban or anything I think no one really wanted to field a team.
  23. I realize that but that does not mean you call people out on a personal level. I probably won't post that type of information again but if it happens with any other poster with credibility probably one shouldn't speak ill of the person but of the post its self. I have no problem with other posters calling my info BS, its understandable and I've taken certain posts to be offensive that really weren't intended to be but I have never attacked a poster personally.
  24. "The last meeting between these two teams exposed that in the 1st quarter. However, this is a rivalry game and MBA has potential to really come out and score some points, and their defense has been solid most of the year. But as stated earlier, Ensworth is the better team hands down. In order for MBA to win they have to cause turnovers and capitalize on all of their red zone opportunities. They really have to be mistake free and find ways to at least contain the Ensworth ground game. As for Ensworth, the Tigers will have to do what they have been doing all year, and that's run until the scoreboard clock reads all zeroes. They will also have to limit their procedure penalties as they average 74 yards a game in penalties (leads DII)." That is an excerpt from my blog. MBA did what they had to do in order to win, EHS didn't. Simple as that. EHS made mistakes, MBA didn't and capitalized on the opportunities EHS gave them. On the game winning drive the EHS defense was gassed and could no longer contain Lassing and the MBA short game and 43 yards for Fletcher is almost a gimme. In the first had a 24-7 lead right before Fletcher hit a long FG. They did exactly what they did not do in the second, they ran well and was able to stop every threat MBA had. Except on Lassing's TD pass which ended up being the game changer. It showed in the first half that MBA's confidence was not high like I predicted, especially when their students didn't decide to show up until the 2nd quarter. But big plays bought them a lot of it. Those guys played great did what they needed to do. Ensworth was out played and out coached. There weren't many questionable calls, not many dirty plays, and no cheating. MBA won fair and square. Honestly, this was the hardest game that a team could lose. Playoff game at home against your arch rival that you dominated earlier in the year. After the game it felt like Chuck Norris had kicked me in the stomach (minus death). It's a shame that Senior talent this great was to put to waste. This loss will stick for a long time. What are you doing right now sugarman10? Calling out teenagers on the internet? Lucky for you that you're able be a tool all year round. Once again, I'm not a manger. I'm a videographer, commentator and writer for Rivals High. I work some with the team so I can get to know them better as players and people. Classy post and well written. Do you have any thoughts about what prompted the two coaching decisions that have been discussed so much here? Also, do you think the off week had any sort of effect? Bowers was confident and should have been. When you have a good defense and the 7th best rusher ever to play in the state statically speaking you go to him on 4th and short but I think maybe some of the coaches may have forgot that this was a playoff game. A punt would have been the right choice on 4th and inches at the 29. Coach Bowers after said this loss was partially on him and he apologized to the team for some of the questionable calls he made. I can't really go in full detail on this but I think you can catch my drift.
  25. Thanks for the apology but when one does not agree with something that has been posted one should question ones sources or reasoning instead of personally attacking them (which is banned on many message boards anyway). That is why this board has such a bad reputation. What I posted had to do with the rivalry and could have ended up affecting the game (which it did in some respect). People get defensive about places where they have spent at least 4 years of their childhood and I respect that but there is no reason to attack someone personally and that's why I called you out. Again, thanks for the praise and the apology.
