  1. We get that you don't like the system. I agree that it is not perfect. There are far too many teams that make the playoffs. That isn't going to change, especially since the TSSAA gets 50% of the gate (I have no idea why the schools stand for that). How would davidlimbaugh create a "fair" playoff system? Could it be as simple as making the first criteria in the playoff matrix "overall district wins" (under the assumption the current classificstion system isn't changing)?
  2. Good for Crockett's program getting into the playoffs....but this will be ugly after 12 minutes.
  3. If memory serves, these two teams haven't met since a first round playoff game several years which Farragut one by a few touchdowns. Farragut has a strong winning tradition and Science Hill is still building a winning program. A big brick of that process (not to steal anything from some college team) was put in place with the win over DB last Friday. For SH, it's time to take the next step and start winning in the playoffs. No time like the present.
  4. I don't know much about M East, either. I don't think that they've had much success in the playoffs, lately. Perhaps that will give DB the edge in this one. Then again, DB hasn't had to deal with losing in week 10 in nearly 20 years; will they come out for redemption or will they come out flat?
  5. I stand by what I've said. I've sat in too many meetings, training sessions, and have seen so much stuff in games, all by veteran umpires, that is just wrong. It isn't a personal attack and, yes, most do work very hard and I have personal relationships with most whom I've umpired with. Still, there is ignorance among umpires about rules and mechanics. Again, that isn't a put down...it is just a word for lack of knowledge. My concern is with the training provided to umpires. It would be a different story if stupidity, where someone was taught and still does it wrong, was the issue, but that isn't the case. And no, this problem isn't specific to high school. I've witnessed it everywhere I have worked as an umpire, including national and international tournaments that I've had the privilege to work. I umpire because I love the game. If I was in this for money, I would do the travel ball thing, which I personally don't touch and never will. Whenever I do a local rec league game, I give the money back to the program (That isn't a holier than thou statement, they need it more that I do). I do believe $65 is too much for an umpire to make to do a high school baseball game. Especially when most schools don't even cover their expenses from ticket and concessions sales from Baseball (said expenses include umpire fees...2 @ $65 for each home game). Throwing more money at umpires isn't the answer, as we've seen game fees increase but the problem persist. I want to see the quality of training improve. I do what I can by working with umpires, especially younger ones, before and after games. But this needs to come from the top in order to effective.
  6. I couldn't see who was involved in the halftime incident. I could just see the SH coaches trying to get their players into the locker room. I also know that Lane was trying to get his seniors on the field to be recognized. To make things worse, this takes place right in front of the DB seats. I'm sure both men would rather forget that it happened.
  7. I'm sure that this DB class didn't want to be the ones to lose the streak, but it had to happen at some point. For a Science Hill alum such as myself, you could literally feel the weight being lifted off of the shoulders of this program. Congrats to all of the SH players, present and past, who have worked to rebuild the program and bring a conference title back to JC. Nothing but respect to DB and Coach Clark. A winning streak that spans 18 years is one heck of an accomplishment. DB has been the consistent standard bearer for the conference while Science Hill has wondered in the darkness. I think it's safe to say "Rivalry Renewed" and hope future games are classics just like last night and even last year's game were. As far as the game itself, I know a lot of people will question the 3rd down play call in the 4th. In any case, SH still had to score and until the 4th quarter, SH hadn't shown consistency on offense. In years past, SH would have laid down after the long TD pass by DB in response to the SH scoring drive. In the end, SH showed resiliency and made the plays needed to win the game.
  8. Final Score SH 35 DB 24 19 years of tryanny and oppression have FINALLY come to an end!
  9. SH 28 DB 24 1:22 left, SH with the ball on DB 14 The mini me bleachers may not survive the night...
  10. Agree about Fritz being an idiot, but I only know of one playoff win during the streak...1998. What was the other one? Otherwise, the streak currently stands at 19 games.
  11. You raise some valid points. This is the first time in my many years of following SH football that I can remember SH fans predicting a victory. I guess it it good that those involved with and follow the program have come to expect winning. In any case, in response to your arguments: We know. Thank you for pointing out the obvious. Well...it's a baseball field with yard lines in left field. If you remember last year at Kingsport, DB quickly pulled ahead 14-0 before SH came back and led for much of the rest of the game until the GW FG with around a minute left. I don't think the crowd will be as much of a factor as it has been in the past. But still, it is an away game for SH, which will give you guys an advantage. And SH's band will be there as will, although you guys do a brilliant job at hiding them behind the last section of visitor bleachers. Even though I disagree with the current direction of the marching band, SH still has a top notch band program. I'm sure that something similar was said last year about containing Reed Hayes. I guess we'll see what happens. McGue will need to make smart decisions with the football. That's fine, but one of those was way back in week 0 and another was against Daniel Boone. DB has also lost one possession games against East Hamilton, Sevier County, and Ooltewah. Is this where I'm suppose to say "fire up DB, put 'em in a teepee, burn 'em"?
  12. Hoping for a quality game like last year, although I have no idea what will actually transpire Friday night. It may be a close game, it may be blowout....who knows. Aside from the streak, I'm sure both squads would like to avoid playing Maryville in the second round...
  13. It's amazing how Science Hill threads always seem to get hijacked and become DB v. (insert DB hater group here) threads.
  14. Serious, as always. I don't have the desire, nor the time, to engage in "smack talk." My dad is a Boone alumnus, so he would take us to the musket bowl every year back when it was in the dome, that is until our parents moved us into JC. My grandparents would also take us to football games every Friday while we were growing up. They just happened to be Boone football games. So when I say Boone plays dirty, it's just a fact that I know to be true from years of watching them play. The same is true for basketball. I enjoy hard hitting football as much as the next guy, but the way Boone plays is a disgrace to the game.
  15. Perhaps I was too subtle....Boone plays dirty, and because of that fact, SH may very well have more injuries coming out of week 9 than going into it.
  16. SH should win by 3 TDs, but whatever mental problems they've been having need to disappear. I'm not to thrilled that this game is in week 9. The quicker SH can put this one away and pull their starters, the fewer injuries they'll have going into week 10.
  17. Heard McGue was in the game for 2 plays before leaving with a limp. Hopefully, he didn't make things worse. He shouldn't even dress next week for Volunteer. Take the time for it to heal fully and get ready for Week 10 and (the brief) beyond.
  18. Even with the injuries, SH still has playmakers all over the field. I think the consensus is that you'll see two QBs for SH Friday night. From what I understand, the McPherson kid is more of a pure passer and should be able to create some things for SH in the passing game. The Bedard kid is sort of a younger version of Reed Hayes (from what I've been told). SH gets the win Friday night.
  19. I believe he was referring to the geographical south...as in southwest of here....as in Knoxville and beyond. In any case, hope Malik is alright, as well as all of the other SH players that got hurt last week.
