  1. the substate games for region 7 and 8 a will both be very interesting. humboldt had gleason beat, but couldnt hold on to the lead and kept shooting themselves out of the game, little by little. that seems to be the real knock on humboldt that they dont know when to quit being so aggressive and pull the ball out. gleason is a good team. they have a good coaching staff and alot of history in their program. i give them a lot of credit for being patient and watch humboldt implode, but i will tell you that middleton isnt humboldt. they are much more disciplined than humboldt and their games against scotts hill in the tourney dont even indicate the type of season they have had. you dont find too many teams like scotts hill that have AAA size in single A. middleton had bad shooting nights in both games, but like someone else posted, if they get hot, watch out. they have the capability of putting that ball in the basket and go 10-11 deep if they need to. scotts hill has a very good team as well, but missing wyatt tonite will hurt them. she is a premier player on the rise and will be the next best thing to come out of scotts hill. and note that she is only a freshman. scotts hill's lack of depth, i think will hurt them, but having the home crowd will definitely give them a boost. if they humboldt like they did middleton and pack the lane and dare them to shoot, it will be a long nite for them. king and hubbard are like lightning in a bottle and watching them shoot the rock against gleason proves that. i would pay just to see the rebounding battle between those two schools. in essence, these two games are going to be great games, and any fan of basketball would get their money's worth watching.
  2. i still find it really hard to believe that scotts hill is not even mentioned in the top 15 in the state in single A. they have only 2 losses this year, one to chester co and one to middleton, and are coming off of a valiant run last year before losing out to humboldt in the substate. they have very good size in the frontcourt and their guards can shoot very well. i would at least rank them ahead of union city and lake county in the polls, despite who they've played. either of those teams will have their hands full if they match up with scotts hill in the substate round.
  3. As long as Patterson is coaching Madison Academic, they will always be a threat come tournament time. Patterson has always been able to find ways to win games, even those that he had no business winning, and he has done it at times with not a whole lot of talent or depth. This year's team is not as strong or experienced as last years, but overlooking them both in the District 15A and Region 7A Tournament could be very costly for Scotts Hill or Middleton. i think it would be costly as well to overlook madison, but they dont have morgan faulkner this year and are having a very hard time scoring over the top of defenses. they are 2 yrs away from being back where they have been in the past, on top of the district.
  4. bigster, i think you severely underestimate middleton this year. they in fact warrant a #1 or #2 in the polls because they are a great team. looking at now and 2008 when they went 31-2, their schedule has been the same, minus district teams, and munford and potts camp, ms. potts camp btw is 19-4 and has a d-1 girl averaging 23 ppg. theyve moved back into a better district, and if you look at their body of work, they had a 3 pt win at humboldt, and 2 pt wins against mcnairy and hardin co at mcnairy. other than that the closest anyone has gotten has been 11 pts, and that was to fayette ware, whom the lady tigers demolished by 27 yesterday. i think district 14 teams are good, and have a lot of talent and a legit to win the gold ball, but give credit where credit it due. middleton is as good as advertised.
  5. There is not 1 team left on Middleton's schedule that will beat them..! As a matter of fact..they look to have a great chance of making it to State..I dont see anyone in the region that will beat them either so it looks like Gleason,Greenfield,Lake Co or maybe Bradford, etc will be coming to Middleton..That may be a tough chore at Middleton but at least Middleton will have 1 tough test..Lake Co has played on the road in a tournament in Kentucky and in small gyms like Bradford so hopefully that wont be a factor..Same as Greenfield ..everyone back and will have played in some tough places like Lake Co.,Greenfield and Bradford..etc.! middleton has had plenty of tough tests this season. first off against humboldt, where they pulled off a 3 point win against a very dangerous viking team....everyone talks about gleason, greenfield, etc....people better not sleep on humboldt. could pose a huge prob in the tourneys. middleton has also beaten a very good lexington team, who imo has quite a bit of talent. theyve beaten mcnairy at mcnairy and hardin co as well, so dont underrate middleton's schedule. and as for beating scotts hill by 35, dont underestimate scotts hill either; they are very talented and are very big for a single A school. their record speaks for itself and beating them will be as equally difficult as beating middleton, if both teams were to get in the substate round.
  6. i agree. the thing about middleton this year is that they have a lot more balanced scoring, both inside and out. last year, against madison in the regionals and lake county in substate, they were without both sharon morgan and coresia berry. it makes all the difference having solid guard play today. as far as your madison comment, i wouldn't be surprised to see them end up far in the regionals as well. coach patterson has a good fundamental team, but my only concern is the youth he has and can they withstand the pressure of tournament play.
  7. yeah, that is why i was saying it was premature. i was just wondering if anyone, who has seen both teams play, could provide insight to how these two teams could stack up. bigster, i totally agree with you on the fact that if those other teams in 14A were in 15A they would be undefeated as well....15A is down this year a bit, with adamsville losing several starters from last year, trinity losing williams, washington and essenburg, madison losing faulkner, patterson, and sopcak, etc. be that as it may, coach burkley, i'm sure, will have his girls ready to play whomever is on the list. people still don't give credit to his girls for their consistent winning, and want to focus on the lack of opposition they face. they pretty much play a AA and AAA schedule each year and have beaten whomever they have faced. they cannot help their district is down this year, but i definitely don't think it will hurt them come tournament time. they did beat humboldt at humboldt by 3 at the first of the season, beat lexington by 18, who beat bolivar, they beat a good and experienced scotts hill team by 35, and recently beat ripley, ms, a AAA school who was 14-4, by 35 points. people don't know too that the lady tigers have only lost 1 game at home in over 2 1/2 years, that to adamsville last year, but avenged that last week. i don't doubt one bit that come tourney time, anything can happen. That matchup could happen but way too early to think about that..Middleton doesn't look to have a tough district and I look for them to go undefeated..I believe if Greenfield,Lake Co was in that district, they'd be undefeated as well..Bradford,Trenton,Union City ,Humboldt maybe as well..Could hurt Middleton come tournament time..Also ..remember..Greenfield has had about 5 games this year in our district that has been within 5 points..They beat Union City by 1 point..Lake Co by 1..A loss to Bradford, and wins over Humboldt and Trenton by around 5 points or less...Also remember..Lake Co has only 3 losses..A 1 point loss at Greenfield in which their best player had about 3 fouls in the first quarter..A 1 point loss to a team in Kentucky in a tournament..And a 5 point loss to Liberty..Not really too bad..Greenfield did beat Lake Co by 1 point but lost to Bradford..Since the Greenfield game,Lake Co has beaten Bradford and in other games Greenfield has beaten Union City by 1..Lake Co beat Union City by 19..Greenfield beat Trenton by about 5..Lake Co beat Trenton by about 31..So..if you look at the schedules..the same teams both have played..Lake Co has won all the games handidly while Greenfield had close calls..But they won and beat Lake Co heads up..All I'm saying is..don't go looking for Middleton and Greenfield just yet..Could be Lake Co..Could be Gleason..Could be Bradford..Trenton..Humboldt..Too many good teams..Lake Co has a tough game tonight at Humboldt..May not win there..Have Greenfield Friday night...The game tonight with Humboldt probably doesnt mean too much..A loss would give Lake Co 2 losses but if they beat Greenfield Friday night ,would give both teams two losses..A win tonight at Humboldt basically is the same..Just will keep Lake Co and Greenfield tied with the winner Fridat being in the top spot..So..still a lot to be decided..!
  8. i can see middleton moving up a spot or two this week after an impressive set of wins this past week, especially an 18 point win over #2 adamsville.
  9. wow.....sounds like a great game took place tonight. i know it's premature, but what are some thoughts of a potential substate matchup between greenfield and middleton? i've seen middleton play, and saw greenfield at the martin play day this summer. both teams looked very good and about equal size-wise. i noticed too that both teams have played a quality schedule with key wins against tough competition. the fact of the matter is that there are so many good west tn bball teams this year and any one of them can knock off one another.
  10. this has to be one of the most ludicrous threads i have ever seen. to think that middleton would purposefully do something of this stature to gain an advantage? i think the countless victories and 3 state championships won at home and on the road prove that it is no advantage. sounds like sour grapes to me....find anything to bad mouth their basketball teams for doing well this season.
