  1. Macnarry...............why doesn't anyone ever transfer to the Bobcats?
  2. 1RT, just for the record Coach Franks is an alum of Adamsville High School, class of 94. Sure some old die hard bobcats are rolling over knowing a former CARDINAL is calling the shots at MCHS!!! Wow.....maybe we are making progress in the county.
  3. They situation with MCHS football isn't any different than other situations you are seeing across west TN in regards to coaches stepping away. The expectations of parents are way out of focus and expectations to the level which programs can compete consistently is largely exaggerated and unrealistic. McNairy County has little to offer as to the recruitment of great coaches and all facility improvements will have to come from private donations because of the tax situation in the county. I know there were some educational cuts last year and more are being discussed now the ability to look for outside help to fix the problem could be limited. MCHS needs to self examine and determine if there is someone "in house" that has the athletes respect and feel a sense of confidence in, has a proven record in motivating athletes and begin the rebuilding process. I know bringing up the idea of following the blueprint that Adamsville laid out with the hiring of Brandon Gray would ruffle the fur of Bobcat fans but if it produced the same results that decision would be praised in due time. Just a thought.
  4. Well at least the conversation is started and maybe the truth behind all this can finally come out. As to address recruiting, having relatives that have been in both county schools athletic programs I can truly say that there isn't a better opportunity for us as a county to show that we have something very special here. The ability to put on such an event and have it be a positive for both schools doesn't come around often and when it does we should embrace that opportunity and use it to not only be examples to students but as how to live in some type of harmony. The only recruiting that should be done is for us to try to put on a show of unity....it was United Way night...and try to show people what a great place this could be to start a business or live. So if you identify me as a recruiter then I guess I am, just hope its on a larger scale than HIGH SCHOOL football. As for the bad officiating.....there were penalties against both teams, some correct and some incorrect but that's part of the game and you deal with it and move on. Seems the Adamsville staff handled that a little better. The biggest think to realize is that the officiating crew will be working this Friday.....Coach Hodge will be suspended. As for the little brother complex...usually the smaller school does have more to prove, just like the little brother. After 20 years of slaughter and being non-competitive I can understand why Adamsville is proud of what they have accomplished against big brother. After 20 yrs. one could expect 1 upset..fluke play or something. Two years in a row could be considered a "bump" in the road. When you get to 5 or 6 straight I'd say the tide has turned, so commend Coach Gray and his staff on doing a great job and being a positive reflection on the good things going on in McNairy County. Just hope that his lesson will go much further than the football field.
  5. As with every year I was at the MCHS-Adamsville game and can't believe with all the fanfare that our new coach came in with that the incidences in this game have kept fans so quite. Is this truly what MCHS athletics has come too? A coach ejected and you get a standing ovation as you leave the field? You have a school board member pass the hat in the crowd as to help pay his fine??? Do they have an idea of the TSSAA slogan: Just do what's right??? Did they hear the announcements that the TSSAA has all member schools read before the game about sportsmanship??? As a resident who supports both schools with my tax dollars this was an embarrassment. The Coach's behavior definitely trickled down because you had a player also ejected. WOW.....surely we can do better than this. No one, after seeing this display should ever be critical of a parent for choosing to send their kid to another school. Just something to start a conversation!
  6. Macnarry, thanks so much for clarifying that the MBA is a private organization that only recruits in the communities of Michie, Ramer, Bethel, and Selmer. And as a grandparent of a child that would like to participate in the league but was told it was only for children who would be attending Macnarry then I'd say that's not welcoming all kids. And if the MBA is using public school facilities to hold their games then I would say that is not only does that represent recruiting, the discrimination makes it illegal. And thank you for not recruiting in Adamsville. Now with that said......who are some leading candidates for your new football coach?
  7. So Bobcat83 and Macnarry........... I know from reading your posts that this is all about the kids!!!! So if there are 3 good quarterbacks in McNairy County and say they go to Bethel, Ramer, and Selmer Middle, that only one should get the opportunity to experience starting at the high school level? And of course the same could apply at every position......so instead of having 44 really good football players from our area play on Friday night we should limit those opportunities to just 22? And as far as recruiting goes I think the youth programs at Adamsville welcome kids from the area and they don't discriminate because of where your from or your intentions of where you may attend high school. If it's suggested that someone is promising athletes anything would the basketball organization started by Coach Lott and Coach Forsythe not allow "All" kids to participate? Or do you make those kids choose at a much earlier age than 14 to decide where they may play basketball? You might take a look at that before you start throwing those recruiting rocks just toward the eastern part of the county!!!!!!!!!
  8. Again Bobcat 83, is that a bad thing if you study the numbers? But I'd have to say, unless it's changed in the last couple of years, if you were a good student with supportive parents and not a trouble maker you probably get in. Don't think sports is that big of a factor in every case. But glad you seem to agree that all the coaches in McNairy/Adamsville controversy have mud on their face. It's not only the one's from the eastern part of that county.
  9. Being someone who was in that county system and knows all about the MCHS/AHS rivalry let's be fair on both sides. Does Adamsville have the right to turn down out of county students, yes, but so does Michie, Ramer, Bethel, and MCHS. So if Mr. Martin is turning away out of county kids to hold down his enrollment because he feels the success of his athletic program will benefit his school, then no one should complain. Martin was coaching during the AA time at Adamsville and he understands what AA basketball is about. But as a former coach I know that TSSAA classification has never been about location. It's always about the numbers. Look at Hardin County to figure that one out, two hour bus trips for District games. I know that during some of the good times at MCHS they benefited from some really good out of county players. Think a Loving kid came from Chester, Poe was from Chester, I believe recently a good player named Walker transferred in there from Mississippi but got into trouble so he wasn't a big impact but they get them too. I believe Ramer benefits from the occasional kid that comes in from Hardeman county....ie...the Chappell kid. Baseball is the big sport at McNairy now and some of their best young talent is from Bolivar so why isn't someone complaining about that? So there is mud on everyone's face. Lott does the best job of recruiting and keeping it on the down low..........he has coached any woman that has children down there so he get's the inside track so his recruiting is built in. Jerry's always won but at what level? No state championships or even runner-ups so do they underachieve? He puts together good teams from a lot of talent. He has girls go to college but no big D-I signings so does he always get the most out of his talent? Most years there are 4-5 girls at McNairy, that no longer play that could start at Adamsville, why would it not be in those kids best interest to go there? The Bobcat's haven't had talent and the good team that was recognized above only finished 3rd in the district. That's what happens when Bolivar and Liberty are in your district. The Adamsville situation is not a lot different....but you can't say they recruit more than the Bobcats. I think the jr. leagues in Adamsville even combine efforts with Selmer to make things work but you really believe the MBA isn't about recruiting? Finally the Jr. High football jamboree is on the MCHS campus, along with the county basketball tournament that last for 3 days, and do you think those coaches don't talk to those kids? LOL. Unless things have changed the head coaches at McNairy hand out the championship plaques that couldn't be recruiting.......I believe the director or principals of the participating schools should do that. The bottom line is that there has been a shift in football talent and the ripple effects are felt across all programs. McNairy dominated the football series for years and now with Adamsville winning lately something illegal is going on. It's happened forever just wish both would agree that it does. Remember those without sin cast the first stone!!!!!!
  10. No, if it were up to me I really think the private/public split is best!
  11. ReitzFan: Just so you know that open enrollment is now a state law where all LEA's must provide the opportunity for transfer if requested by the student. The local LEA isn't responsible for transportation but if there is room and the school isn't at capacity then the LEA is wise in granting the request. Also the band at AHS is very strong so I would think that there are lots of reasons students in McNairy County might choose Adamsville. So I guess you could say in Tennessee it is a "right"!!!!
  12. I think we all are proud it had no bearing on standings and it's hard to believe that one could REALLY think something like that would be done intentionally. Your coach North, coached the head coach from A'ville Kevin McClain, and he knows the clock keeper so none involved probably feel that it was an intentional mistake. Funny how the human element can play into things. Also saw coach North talking to the principal at A'ville after the game so he didn't seem that upset.
  13. Funny how all this gets started over the scorekeeper. I know those refs and quite sure they missed a couple of calls that should have resulted in freethrows for both teams. Also I bet that those teams also missed freethrows during the game that could have changed the outcome. But like your coach said.....and that would be Coach North....who did coach at Adamsville....and has known the clock operator for years.....why do you not get back on defense. So seems he's the only one at TCA that's not a whiner.
  14. Reitzfan, if you are part of the broadcast crew didn't you begin your whining before the games even started. Didn't you decide that the booth that was set up for you by the game officals seem inadaquate and you decided to move? You complained about the officiating then the clock keeper, and then the Adamsville players. Kinda funny that if it didn't go TCA's way it not whining. Just an observation. Hope you a good place to broadcast in Middleton.
  15. As a longtime observer of this district this years tournament could be very entertaining. I do think the homecourt advantage of Middleton truly gives them the edge but don't think anyone can predict what or whom will be in the finals. Most on this thread predict that guard play will determine the winner but not in recent history has the class of guards from this district been this weak. If TCA's guard are considered to be the class of the district then the Memphis teams are going to the sub-state.
