  1. Andre Hollins, White Station. I was sort of surprised; I think everyone in the west end of the state expected Adonis Thomas to win.
  2. Congratulations to all the winners, the teams and individual winners for Mr. Basketball. I was surprised to hear at least one person booing Andre Hollins when his name was announced. Andre is the nicest young man you could hope to know. He's smart, polite, respectful and a real competitor.
  3. Can someone tell me about Clarksville?
  4. Question: If only one of the players nominated plays in the state tournament, does he have an advantage at being Mr. Basketball?
  5. White Station beat Melrose 60-54 in the final tonight.
  6. In the Region 8AAA Final tonight, White Station beat Melrose 60-54. White Station will play Cordova and Melrose will play Craigmont Monday in the sub-state sectional. Surprisingly, Adonis wasn't named to the All-Region team, but his teammates Cedric McAfee and number 10 (not sure of his name, maybe Hamilton?) were. WS had Andre Hollins, Nino Johnson and Marvin Williams. Jonathan Williams from Southwind, and a player from Germantown and the point guard for Ridgeway. Sorry I don't know all the names. The PA system was awful and I couldn't understand all of the names.
  7. It was a crazy game. There were (I believe) 3 techs called, one because Whitehaven tried to play with 6 men. The Whitehaven principal was at the game and must have said something to the refs that got him a police escort out of the gym. The White Station students always sit behind one of the goals. One student was flashing the light on his camera phone while a Whitehaven player was shooting a FT. The Whitehaven player grabbed his eye and went to the bench and poured water in his eye from a water bottle. It "appeared" that he was claiming the students threw something in his eye, but I don't know what he said to the refs. The refs and police officers talked, and one of the officers told the students to leave the area behind the goal and go to the upstairs section (away from the goal and the floor). All 40 or 50 students were told to leave, not just the one who was using his camera. They got up to leave and headed for the stairs. Then another police officer told them they had to leave the building and escorted them out. When the students began to get up, the "injured" player was laughing with his teammates. I saw what happened, and a parent sitting at that end of the gym told me about what the police officers told the students to do.
  8. LeRon has a high ankle sprain and wasn't able to play tonight.
