  1. Tricky answer, and I'm not being evasive. Has lots to do with pay scale for teaching positions such as tenure and degree, as well as additional supplements for field maintenance. I'm also hearing that the current coaches stipend here can/will be increased. Without getting into anyone's personal information I can tell you that some former McNairy Co. employees who have come to Henderson Co. have told me that they had gotten well into a five figure raise for the same job equivalent. I did look at Hardin's stipend when your job came open, and if I remember correctly just the pay for coaching (before the additional supplements) was not too far off.
  2. He's baiting you to think that Matt McConnell is going to be the coach. Could very well be, but I trust this source about as far as I could throw him. McConnell is an outstanding offensive coach, but he doesn't strike me as the type to be subordinate to anyone and it's been strongly insinuated that others will have a lot of input on the direction of the offense there.
  3. Lots of similarities to both, but also different. Hardin has good facilities and generally has talent, but looks to be a little shy of the normal talent pool. Westview feels more different than Hardin...Nice facilities, but different classification and have another Simpson coming along which will almost guarantee talent to be there. Lexington facilities should be finished by the beginning of this season and will rival some of the nicer ones locally. Add that they traditionally have homegrown talent, and the pay scale should entice some that maybe would hesitate to apply at Hardin Co. unless they raise the supplement quite a bit. With the new facilities and the potential to hire a "name drop" caliber coach, some kids could come in to play there from Carroll, Decatur, Chester, and Madison Counties, which has not been the case for the last several years. I don't think that there'll be a control issue either, especially if they land their "big fish" coach.
  4. You know how rumors are, some of the ones you think are probably true aren't, and some of the ones that get the eye-rolls are... there are some legit names being dropped as "interested", but too early to link anyone as even a good possibility yet. With the pay rate, new stadium and the Tigers history I think some upper level coaches will be in the conversation.
  5. Lexington job will be posted soon. Coach 'Worth will be assuming the Athletic Director position for HC Schools. Current AD will officially retire next month, but the duties will be effective immediately.
  6. I know that this board is for athletics, but Liberty Tech also had a very strong AG program and a highly respected FFA chapter...that went into the tank as well.
  7. Smart move. I know some pretty wise people who could learn from this post...and I too will leave it at that.
  8. LOL...I don't need to apply to see the problem...I'm thinking that it's becoming pretty obvious. Good luck getting (and keeping) your guy with a fanbase like this.
  9. May just be the problem right there! Far left leaning liberal professors implant racism into students minds to the point that they often see it clearly when it's not there at all.
  10. Tired of the "friendly banter"...I can see when you've got an axe to grind and refuse to come toward the middle from your far left point of view. Selmer isn't Vegas... nobody is saying that people migrate there to live a lavish lifestyle, but it is full of people who have kids, and some of them are athletic enough to play football at a high level. Those are the kids that McNairy SHOULD get. I don't have a clue about the ex coach, but from your posts I'd say that you very well do. All that I can say about him is that the team had a meeting and voted to not play for him...he could be Lombardi, Landry, and Belichick all rolled into one, but if the kids opt out on you, you're done. Adamsville in the same boat? Yes, all but looking to replace the coach they are. We added a couple of kids that wouldn't play there and didn't want to play for McNairy's coach either. Last time I checked, Scotts Hill didn't have as much to offer as A'ville or McNairy, unless you count the HC who is great with the kids... and yes that matters.
  11. I get the sarcasm, but with the new Director mandatory change is coming county wide. The current scheduling is a remainder of the "system" that followed TMSAA's direction about total games played in a season. Two of our middle schools have already broken with our "traditional" round robin 7 team home and home + tournament format and taken the initiative to expand their schedule's on their own, with both making multiple appearances at the James C. Haile tournament...came up just short of a title @ South Side year before last after Scotts Hill winning one and finishing second once earlier. If two of the seven have had success simply by putting forth more effort, that speaks volumes for the direction we should go. It's easy enough to say "they won't let us do more"...but it's not too difficult to drop them and try to be better.
  12. School system is the largest employer in lots of county systems, ours included. Adamsville is in the same boat as McNairy (maybe worse) and have had a great run for years up until recently. Get the kids you SHOULD get, get two or three that should be someplace else, and you may never get a gold ball, but winning seasons are within reach...isn't that what we all want for our small rural schools?
  13. Then they need to do what we (Henderson Co,) did, and drop them. We evaluated the benefits vs. the detriments and decided that we're much better off without their restrictions. The deciding factor for us was the practice and game restrictions imposed...our intent is to enable our middle school athletes to improve, and we felt that limiting practices and the number of games played per season was hampering that. Most think that without an association it's a free for all regarding rules and order, but each system sets their own guidelines, and are free to be as liberal or as strict as they desire.
  14. You don't have to recruit kids. Who is geographically close enough to McNairy to pull the marginal kids? One post Said that some go to Miss., other than that probably a very few could choose Hardin Co, and the vast majority decide between the Bobcats and Cardinals. Not every kid in Hardeman County can come to McNairy, but there are several that could choose to if you gave them a better option than they have. Get the majority of McNairy County kids to choose blue and gold over red and silver, then one or two from here and there coupled with getting kids in the halls out to play and you've made a huge jump in talent and numbers. If it was easy everyone would win 8-10 games a year but in reality it isn't too hard to figure out...just getting folks on board with making the effort.
  15. Glad that someone gets the fact that things change when folks change them, and change doesn't happen when folks sit by, do nothing, and expect nothing to be done differently. Adamsville would have been hard to beat out to draw the "either way" kids six or eight years ago, but not now. Get one or two "starter" type kids that would normally be there, one or two from each of the three swing schools, one or two from the west (nothing in Hardeman Co. to attract football kids), and one or two from south of the state line, and you've doubled your talent/depth without playing a down of football. Pay someone to come in and teach kids how to play while making football "interesting" for the kids already there, and the job gets easier from there. Bottom line is; get kids to come out for football, build your numbers, put butts in the seats, and the public will pay the program's way far more than the cost of raising the stipend to coach football at McNairy... all you have to do is care enough to try.
  16. Classic. Won't be another crew like Gifford, Cosell, and Meridith...too much "personality" for today's society. Never cared much for Keith Jackson while he was there, I always associated him with 'Bama for some reason.
  17. Hey ST... my friends call me Trader, and I'm a lifetime Cowboy fan too...got pics from when I was five with a plastic helmet with the "star" and a "Dandy Don" Meridith jersey. It wasn't always this bad... I thought that I almost beat it when they fired Landry...I don't know how I got to this point, but I'm ready to admit that I'll always love me some Cowboys without any expectations.
  18. He wasn't hard to find watching a game in person...seemed like there were two or three of him on the field, because if you're like most fans and follow the ball with your eyes, that's where he would be when the whistle blew. How he was not named is definitely a mystery if ANY of the voters actually watched some games.
  19. No way he believes that Tide21. If Simpson isn't there, probably 5 or 6 of the starters are playing someplace not named Martin Westview to begin with. You can add that in (just one example) the Riverside game, if not for Simpson himself they most likely lose in the playoffs. I can get on board if someone says that their opinion is that maybe one particular player isn't worth the trouble for what they bring to the table, but to try and take away what was obviously gained from his being there is just wrong.
  20. If you're assessing the future talent level at McNairy according to which middle school won county you're thinking on the wrong level. If they hire the right coach he will pull kids from EVERY middle school in the county, as well as a few from surrounding counties and one or two from Mississippi. "Pay isn't going to change" is also a rather flat statement that very well could change...without doing any research, a good guess would be 36-40 mil operating budget for the Dept. of Ed... adding ten to twelve thousand each at two schools for head coaches and another six or eight for assistants wouldn't move the needle for the overall budget. It's simply a question of "how much does it matter" to the board and director that football be done to the best of your ability. Judging from your mindset (if you're a resident), you're probably right that nothing will change for the better. If it DOES matter to you, call Mr. Martin, call Mr. Franks, call whomever you can and give them your opinion that things need to be done differently if you're going to have a different result.
  21. I really can't affirm nor counter this statement, but I do know that there was a team meeting with two or three weeks left on the schedule. I heard from a very reliable source that the "team" took a vote, and that the majority of them were for walking out and not playing out the remainder of their games unless they were promised that the current coach was gone as soon as season was over. I do think that you're underselling the job though. McNairy hasn't had a good run in a long time...I believe that the "right guy" could turn things around there pretty fast. Their competition isn't looking great for the next few years, so a "decent" team could have a respectable record...talent in the area isn't bad compared to their district, if they could attract some of the marginal Adamsville kids (heard that that's more possible than ever) and just a few others. Pay and control have to be there to get your dude...fix that and things can be looking up.
