  1. Maybe not, but I still stand by what I said... If you would have asked people that year who the best Class A team was, a majority of them would have said Humboldt. I'm not taking anything away from Manassas because they were also a very good team and a lot would have also named them as the best team, but what I said is true... if you look back two years ago, a lot of people on these message boards predicted Humboldt would win (ASSUMING the people were from all across the State, which I know some were and some weren't).
  2. I agree with the two statements above me... Our district will always be competitive no matter how many talented players we lose or how many players graduate. In my humble opinion, we are still (by far) the most competitive district for Class A. Lake County will always have my respect .
  3. You can ask anybody throughout the WHOLE State of Tennessee who the best Class A basketball team that year ('09)... all of them would either say Manassas or Humboldt, with the majority saying Humboldt. NONE WOULD EVEN MENTION TEMPLE! Dude, both teams played some common teams that year and Humboldt performed better against the mutual competition! HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT MANASSAS WON IT ALL WHEN THEY DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A PERFECT RECORD!?! HUMBOLDT'S RECORD WAS MUCH BETTER! Secondly, I'd like to point out a MAJOR flaw you just stated: Temple was the 2nd best team in the State that year?! HUMBOLDT LOST TO MANASSAS BY 3 POINTS ON A BUZZER BEATER WHILE TEMPLE LOST BY 26!!! Clearly, you are no mathematician. You know that Humboldt is a much, much better team than Westwood and you don't have an argument, so you just keep trying to make noise.
  4. I seriously doubt Memphis Westwood would have "faired" better against Manassas than Humboldt did. In 2008, we were able to keep up with them until the 3rd quarter of the Substate game. In 2009, we played Manassas in the first round of State (Humboldt was #1 with a perfect record that season with 32 or 33 wins, Manassas was #2 with two losses)... if you were to ask anybody outside of Memphis on who was the better team, 90% of them would say Humboldt. But we played a mediocre game against them and lost at a BUZZER BEATER (63-60). We kept up with them the whole game... If you think Westwood could have done that, then hey... Go ahead and think that. But I doubt it. Both Manassas and Humboldt were better teams back then. You all were lucky to have played us in a down season.
  5. Lol... just more trash talk from a Memphis fan. Did you read any of what I said? I BET that you wouldn't be saying that if you all played us before last season. From 2005-2009, Humboldt would have beaten MEMPHIS WESTWOOD BY 20 PTS MINIMUM (in the '08-'09 season, we probably would've beaten you all by a margin around 30-40 pts)!!! Ya'll would have been no competition for us and you all would've seen that your once victory over us was a fluke because we played bad in a DOWN SEASON. Last season was a down year for us, but yet we still made it to State! If you're just going to base our team off of the game you all played against us last March, then you are HORRIBLY mistaken. In fact, I don't know if I should take your post seriously at all now. We'll see come Basketball season time We'll see. Like someone said above me... Comedy. It's just comedy. Post something else ridiculous so this laugh fest continues!
  6. AAA... Melrose AA... I honestly don't know, but just because I know they're usually good at basketball, I'll have to put Bolivar. I don't know what Liberty has this upcoming season, except that they're also good. A... I have a lot to say about Class A. As much as I would LOVE to put Humboldt, Union City, or Lake County at the top, I'm going to say Clarksville Academy (ONLY because they won State last year... and I know that they're returning the Smith brothers). However, I'm still going to stand my ground when I say that I wasn't impressed with Clarksville when I saw them play in State this past year... Nowhere near as good as some of the former top Class A teams. I'm going to be disappointed if they play at the same level and still win it this year. I know this may sound harsh, but I feel that many people who've seen the top Class A teams in the past would agree with me on this one.
  7. Lol... we already have Gold on our gym bleachers, but green just looks AWFUL compared to that BIG RED! (even though green is one of my 3 favorite colors) Anyways, I didn't even get to see a Lake County vs. Humboldt game last year I was incidentally too busy whenever they played... hopefully I'll get to see both teams this next year!
  8. I like your enthusiasm, but I would caution you about getting your hopes up too high... It's just because I know this from experience. Humboldt (the team you all played in the first round this past State Tourney) has been going to the State Tournament for 4 times out of the past 5 years. In 2005, we were in Class AA and were expected to make the final round. We didn't win... the next several seasons we returned A WHOLE LOT of players... We were expected to make a State Final appearance in 2006, 2007, and were DEFINITELY expected to win the State Tourney with a perfect winning streak in 2009 with a bunch of talent... did any of that happen? No. In the 2009-2010 season, we lost about 8 Seniors from the previous season, but yet we fought through the season and soon were expected to make a State Final appearance (yet again)!... Did that happen? No... you all beat us in the first round. Humboldt's a PERFECT example of a very good team that hasn't made it all the way yet. My point: anything can happen... just because you return all your players doesn't mean you all will win. Will they have more experience? Most definitely! I wish you all have a good season and I cheer on for my Humboldt Vikings . Maybe we may meet up at State once again haha. But you can NEVER be too sure which team will win State.
  9. Humboldt up 21-0 at the end of the 1st.
  10. It's no surprise to me that we beat Bolivar and then got beaten by USJ... this usually happens on most football seasons for us... But USJ is PRETTY good, so it's understandable to me if we lost. Do you all think Humboldt can get to the playoffs this year?
  11. Lol You all know I DIDN'T REALLY MEAN THAT! ahahaaa. i was just wanting to get some people posting on here Yeah, I've always thought UC, LC, and Humboldt were the best teams in Single A... I was disappointed this past year when I watched the State Tournament... Clarksville Academy wasn't nearly as talented as some of the past championship teams; but we never know, they may have improved this year. I always thought that the three teams I mentioned earlier could, in reality, compete in AA and maybe even AAA... anyways, no disrespect to mr.bigster haha... my comment was just kinda a playful remark about the comment made earlier... you know, the "Falcon practice squad."
  12. ehhh... I only read the first few comments that were posted on this subject. As far as Class A goes, I don't see any real threat for Humboldt (then again, there IS UC and LC!?... But I THINK - hence, think - we'll be able to handle them for most of the season; we'll just have to watch our backs as Tourney time draws nearer in 6 months). The 2009-2010 season was a rebuilding year for Humboldt, but we still did a great job in getting ourselves in the State Tournament for the 4th time in 5 years. The Vikings SHOULD be more prepared this season, as they only lost two Seniors this time around. I'm not worried about their athleticism... for a Class A school, you have to admit that Humboldt produces some pretty "killer" athletes. I'm just concerned about their judgement and height... From a team that had most players around 6'3" to even reaching 6'7", Bryson is now the only big man on the team. I know height isn't everything, but it's certainly a factor! Also, we had 3 new starters last season (Dunbar and Campbell the only ones from the great '08-'09 season)... As I watched the basketball games, I saw "young player" mistakes that were being made. Hopefully they'll be able to make better decision this time. I'm not sure if I'll ever enjoy watching our team as much as I did in the past (ESPECIALLY in the '08-'09 season and the seasons prior to that)... but I do know that you have to move forward. If Humboldt can regain its full potential, then they can be one of the BEST teams in ANY classification in the State! (same goes for UC and LC). I'll always be a Viking faithful.
  13. In place of Temple, how do Wayne County and Harriman look next year?
  14. Unless you know something I dont I would bet my paycheck that Tennessee Temple wont make it to murfreesboro next year. heck they didnt make it past the district this year I'm just basing this off from what I heard from somebody else. It's second-hand information. I've heard some stuff about them, so I would at least suspect that they're decent... then again, maybe I'm wrong. I don't know all that much about the East-TN teams, considering that I live here in the West end part. How do the rest of my pre-season guesses look? Remember that teams could change a lot in one year! Depending on how their seasons go, any one of these teams could be knocked out from the State Tourney because of all the various factors.
  15. This was a MAJOR rebuilding year for Humboldt. After losing 7 great Seniors from last season, I'd say it was a great accomplishment for them to even get to the State Tournament, considering that they only had 2 returning starters. They will lose one vital starter after this year, meaning four of them will return for next season. Hopefully the experience the younger players gained from 2009-2010 will help them prepare better for at least the next 2 seasons. I think that Humboldt will once again make a trip to State. My picks in Class A (in no particular order): Clarksville Academy CSAS Humboldt Union City - it would be nice to see them make a State trip again! Lake County?... it not UC. City University and/or Westwood Temple Grace I don't know much about Classes AA and AAA :/.
  16. Sad that it appears the only team you can give credit to is Wayne Co. Waynce Co. had a great year and the Rice boys are very talented. But give the Academy it's due, they beat a very good Grace Baptist team who had a great game plan to beat Westwood. It's funny you say if Westwood or Humboldt wins it all then everything 's good but if the Academy wins it all Class A is just weak! Give them there due and don't hate em because they beat your team!!!!!!!! I think I may have to agree (partially) with "hooplove" on this topic. Humboldt's team in 2009, Union City in 2007-2008, Manassas in 2009, and Lake County in 2009 (not to mention Trenton Peabody in some of the earlier 2000 years, plus Grace and Temple) were all candidates to win the Class A Tournament in the past. Clarksville Academy was nowhere near their level of playing. HOWEVER, I do believe that with the Smith boys returning (okay, so the Smith brothers aren't the only factors of CA, but still... their teammates will be looking up to them for inspiration), CA definitely has the potential to get on that playing field along with some of the best Class A teams I've ever seen to play (erm, that is, the teams I mentioned above in their glory years). Just to add (because I know some fans would get mad at me), this is in no way bashing CA. They were the best in the tournament and I CONGRATULATE THEM for winning. I'm just telling my opinion about what I think concerning Class A. CA, Humboldt, and Union City, I predict, will become even greater teams for next year and should be able to contend for the State Title!!! Oh, and CSAS I hear is also pretty decent. Can't wait! Purple and Gold Standard, what can we expect from UC in the 2010-2011 season? For everyone else, what can the public expect of your basketball teams!?
  17. Really? Hmmm... It seems my memory has faded from me a little... Be easy on me Lol!!! I was just relying on my sheer memory... Didn't Grace make it in '06 or somewhere around that year to State, too? Anyways, I'm AMENDING MY MISTAKE ... To be fair to all the teams out there. Grace did not make it in '07.
  18. Oh, and about the seeding format... Hmmm... Well, from the previous posts, all I can say is that the 8 competing teams in the tournament are NOT necessarily the best 8 teams in the State. City University, Union City, Lake County, and Scotts Hill (??? maybe Scotts Hill should be on this list?) have teams that COULD have (hence, I say "could," not "would") beaten some of the Class A teams that were playing today. It's just that some schools have tougher competition in their District and Regionals. I don't know about the other Districts and Regionals - and if there's anybody wanting to share info with me on this, please do! - but CU, UC, and LC could've made it to State had they not had to face Humboldt.
  19. Good luck to the remaining teams as they compete in the tournament!!! I was watching Clarksville Academy vs. Wayne County and Humboldt vs. Westwood. Tough loss for Humboldt!?! I was really looking forward to a Clarksville vs. Humboldt Championship Game, but I guess I overlooked Westwood (and probably so did Humboldt's basketball players... otherwise, they would've been wiser and played a smarter game). Anyways, congrats to all the teams that made it this far to the State Tournament . They should ALL be proud of themselves! Ps. As a general comment to anyone... Is it just me, or has Class A lost a lot of talent this year in its basketball teams? I mean, none of the teams that I saw today (Clarksville and Humboldt included... maybe they just played "bad" games? ) seemed to be as good as the State Finalist contenders of previous years... that is, none of them seemed to be as good as Union City in 2007 and 2008, Grace in 2007, and Humboldt, Lake County, and Manassas in 2009. What do you all think? Am I missing something in this picture or am I seeing it correctly? And this isn't meant to take anything away from this year's State Final 8, by the way... I think the free point shooting this year is what separated it from the other years... I've never seen such terrible free point shooting!?!
  20. Wow, man. I wasn't trying to get smart with you or anything. I was just asking a simple question and I didn't find anything wrong with that. And yes, I did notice the part where you said, "Most deserving" because I likewise said that Manassas and Humboldt were BOTH very deserving... what I was trying to say was that if there was ever a year where two teams deserved to share the top spot, last year was that year. But anyways, that's just my humble opinion. Humph!!!...
  21. I agree that in a perfect world,Humboldt would have gone home with the silver ball last year.Do I think the most deserving team wins it all every year,ABSOUTELY,(I didn't say best, most deserving). Can you say second most deserving gets silver,no way.the tournament is set up to award the gold ball, not the silver one. If,however the T.S.S.A.A. had gone to seeding this year how would the brackets look? There are not two teams to clearly oppose in the brackets.Humboldt thinks Westwood was a bad draw, would you rather have gotten Fulton? Really? I f you want a glimpse of the turmoil seeding would cause, I'll start a thread and ask everyone to draw up their own brackets and post them and comment on everyone elses'. How did Manassas deserve to win the Gold Ball over Humboldt? I mean, both teams were EXTREMELY good last year and probably - hence, I say, "probably" - could've competed in the Class AAA division (well, for regular season... Lol, it would take a miracle for Manassas and Humboldt, with the school sizes they are, to climb up the bracket in the State for Class AAA). If there was ever an instance where two teams should've shared the top spot, last year was that instance. Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. Anyways, now Humboldt and Manassas are in different classes. It should be fairly easy for Humboldt to finally get in the Finals now.
  22. Our loss against Liberty wasn't that bad. I heard that our Boys' team usually plays Liberty at the Season Opening Jamboree... we lost by like... 8 points or less. Plus, we were playing without two of our starters. If Dunbar, Campbell, Bryson, or Brooks (our athletes that play both football and basketball) were out, then Humboldt's game would've changed altogether when they played Liberty. I don't know if this makes sense, but hopefully you all know what I mean .
  23. Yepp yepp!!! It was crazy that Humboldt and Manassas had to play each other in the first round last year. Had Humboldt nailed the free throws, they would've won by like... what? 12 to 13 points? But, that's the way the tournament goes. May the best team win!
  24. I hope you all are right... and yes, Humboldt has been one of the best basketball teams in TN for the past 6 or 7 years. It should be about time for us to win State .
