  1. Well said. Whoever brings their A game will come out on top. And if both do? Nahhh, who am I kidding. The refs will make sure one team doesn't bring an A game. I think that's in the TSSAA ref handbook.
  2. It's not half as bad as Boone's announcer. He's the most annoying in my book, and the volume they set that speaker at makes me wonder if Boone fans don't suffer from tinnitus. /I kid, I kid Boonies.
  3. Speaking of new stadiums and all, looking at the schedule DB has played 4 games on grass fields and SH has only played 3 games on grass fields. Back when I played (early 2000's) I would have said you were crazy if you told me that more than 60% of teams on the schedule would have turf. Especially my alma mater haha
  4. Hard to tell since I don't live in Johnson City, but I remember asking a senior from last year and 2010 was the first time he'd been to the playoffs. And if I was a science hill fan I'd be appalled at the crowds they draw. On occasion I catch a game and despite their recent success and new stadium they have the worst crowd/fans I've seen in this area.
  5. There's being an ardent fan and being an ignorant fan. I'd say their coaching problem is fixed since they will go at least 7-3 this year after going 6-4 last year and making the playoffs for the first time in at least 3 or 4 years. This is the first time they've challenged for the conf championship since at least 2001. While I think DB will win, it's not going to be on the magnitude of, say, South or Boone. These teams are in for a dog fight on thursday and its gonna be fun on a bun
  6. Not to put too much into it, but SH scrimmaged SC twice this year, once in the spring and once in the summer. I know they were scrimmages but SH allowed one TD to SC in the scrimmages. SH's def is designed to stop the spread so they match up better to SC than they did to Mwest's power run game that they ended up shutting down for 3 quarters (but not the 1st quarter and the all important last drive that beat them). So it's hard to compare the SC and Mwest wins and losses to SH. Key thing is that obviously DB doesn't run a spread offense so SH will have problems with the option. Batman- The winner of this game gets the Quad 1 #2 seed. Conf winners get a #1 or #2 seed, doesn't matter record, head to head, blah blah blah (except when deciding which conf winners get the 1 or 2, etc). This assumes Maryville as the #1 seed. SC will win their conf and prob be the Quad 2 #1 or #2 seed.
  7. SH and DB are playing for the District championship since both are undefeated in the Big 8, which means a 1 or 2 seed in quad one. Most likely the winner gets a 2 since Maryville will be 1. Win or lose DB will host at least one game and I think the same could go for SH after how tonight's games went, but it's def not a guarantee. Even with a loss I think they could get a 4 seed (lowest hosting seed) at 7-3 but its a lot iffier than being 8-2 and district champs. I'd just like to see Maryville in quad 2 so that DB or SH wouldn't have to meet them until the quarterfinals. If this seems incorrect have at straightening me out. Or just check the t$$aa website.
  8. That would be exceptionally hard to believe. Sevier seems mostly composed of legitimate city kids, I'm talking within what would be considered the city of Kingsport as opposed to recently annexed areas and 'burbs.
  9. There's less X and O from Jenkins than you think. How is running the ball 56 times down 3-4 scores qualify as adjustments? In my opinion Boone's play calling was aimed at piling up rushing totals and winning "toughest team" on the field that day (which I say they did win). Any other team down that much takes to the air to get back in the game. Now I understand that Boone's not the best at throwing the ball, but still it wasn't a winning strategy to pound the rock and run the clock. Don't get me wrong now, it was a great plan to start the game and if SH hadn't exploded in the 1st qtr then that game would have been much, much closer. It just seems counterintuitive to run so much. And the success from Jenkins' "adjustments" looked like SH not putting #72 in as much since they had stopped the run early and gotten their lead. Rant over, just mad at what I perceived Boone's playing to loose not as bad as opposed to playing to win.
  10. Get off the thread idgit.

  11. Again to clarify, I'm not touting any one school being vastly superior to another. I just meant it would be clear in the standings, my fault for using "hands down". You could have south and tn play 100 more times with half going each way. The potential wrench in the standings is if boone beats south, who beat tn, who beat boone, and around the circle you go. But I don't think that'll be the case. As for the first round exits, I think DB will get past the first as well as south if they can get healthy. SH depends on their final seeding. But apparently I'm no football analyst.
  12. I'm talking reg season here. Playoffs are a different creature. Sometimes match-ups can yield early exits or deep pushes, teams figure out who they are by playoff time and that helps, and sometimes injuries will doom them. I'm not about to say who will go further in the playoffs. But when the reg season closes its my opinion South will be the top 5A school in the big 8. I'm not saying TN high isn't good because they certainly are, but facts is facts, they got beat by South.
  13. Yeah, my assessment of South as the top of 5A was based off the fact that South beat TN and I figure south will beat boone. The second part is just conjecture but the first is fact. Or so I figured, unless Overtime losses don't count. That and if TN hadn't pulled #8 boone would have had two less tds at least.
  14. Haha calm down a bit. Not my victory, I was just an impartial viewer of the game. I did hate to see the young man go down as he's an outstanding player. And no need to play the small school card, quantity helps but quality wins you games as last year's game showed between the two schools. In my opinion South is hands down the best 5A school in the Big 8 this year.
  15. DB may not have to wait until next year. Outcome will be the same, but I think it could be less one sided than that butt-whoopin' last year. As far as Boone goes, I hope their defense is in good condition. I'd estimate SH runs an average of 70 plays a game with a season high of something like 90-95 at Mo'west (Best defense this side of Knoxville in my opinion). From the stands it looks like the only thing that slows their pace are the old fat refs haha. As far as South not having #10, its not like south was humming on offense with him. South's offense didn't score any points the entire game with their only tds being a beautiful pick 6 and a KO return. I'd spot them another td at the end if they still had him, but that looked like JV time for the hill. On top of that hill of beans is the fact that Boone has the second worst offense in the Big 8. Central has a healthy lead on them in that category (33 total points this season, ouch).
  16. Betsy and TN high thought their leads were safe too I'd bet. You're not gonna beat south this year if you let them hang around in a low/mid range scoring game.
  17. South pounds betsy with their run game to the tune of 27-13.
  18. You could even throw in Brandon Ghee for the Bengals. Shame he had to move after his freshman year.
  19. The inferiority complex South fans have just amazes me. As a former player I can assure you that when we played, yeah we wanted to win and win big just like any other game, but it really wasn't much of big deal as compared to Oak Ridge or the better conf teams at the time. Since I hadn't really followed DB history when I played I had no clue why people called it a rivalry game. Both teams gotta win to call it a rivalry. As for the playoffs, only one team in 6A ends their season with a win haha, doesn't make a squat of difference if its first round or finals, lose and you have failed no difference. I just hope that with all the knocking DB has done they knock the door down in the future. And honestly the same goes for South in 5A, I'd love to see South challenging for the golden ball in their division since that would make the DB south game finally mean something besides conference standing.
  20. Blame the quirks of the schedules on the conf and TSSAA. Every team's schedule this year has them playing another team either home or away again for the second straight year. Personally I'm all for rotating home and away every year, but it just doesn't work out that way. Something about how schedules are done on three year contracts I think. And if this wasn't what you meant by the home field advantage then ignore it.
  21. Science Hill by 40 DB by 34 TN High by 35 UPSET SPECIAL!!!! VOLUNTEERS by 35! Oh crap, Never mind. I was thinking about the UT-Montana game. Boone by 20
  22. Tell you what though, I do love Waco's hate. Sometimes things get a little too friendly around here haha. For instance, I respect the heck out of Oak Ridge and their program, but I HATE them and loved the wins we had against them. I know and hope they feel the same way. And the best hate is that unadulterated, mostly ignorant stuff that gets your target rilled up haha. Don't go changin' WJ. /Not being sarcastic //South's momma is so dumb, she came to the football game and thought the quarterback was a refund. ZING.
  23. However, your obsession with this Carter cult and the hate for Carter is a bit odd Haha. Understandable since he was at South and all, but I'm all about giving respect where respect is due. Just like how poorly South acted after he left, I mean the man and his staff helped make South respectable after several years of being a joke. Anyway, I'm seeing this game get off to a bit of a slow start, especially if South gets the ball first. After the first quarter though, the horses will be primed to go for DB and its off to races/bench haha. Final: 48-12. Of course, now that I've said this DB will house the kickoff and take a pick to the endzone before its offense even hits the field So here's to hoping DB keeps the streak...
  24. Ahhhhh, haha gotcha. I thought you meant "Official" picks.
  25. Haha no one picked Science Hill to win the conf last year or this year. But yeah, not much can be done about the schedule and Clinton's demise. When it was set a few years back no one was faulting it. As much as I loved the Oak Ridge series, I'd rather play an excellent 5A or D2 team. I think its important to schedule tough teams, but I'd rather not play one you could see in the playoffs. Its tough to beat a great team twice in a year as 2003 and 2004 showed.
