  1. http://www.stategazette.com/story/1680676.html all I can say is wow!
  2. stay out of Obion County and away from our staff, please
  3. There is a lot of enthusiasm around the baseball program and as soon as football is over I expect them to jump right in to baseball with both feet. The kids appear to really want to play for him if football is any indication and he has motivated that receiving group to reach their potential. I feel he will have the same effect in baseball and whatever you think of Victory, this looks to be a great hire for us.
  4. I continue to be impressed with the play of the OCC receiving group. For the most part they are undersized and not gifted with great speed although I wouldn't call them slow. What I like is the intensity with which they perform. They block off the ball and they play hard every play when they aren't the primary receiver. Hats off to Tanner, Shawn, Nathan, McGrew, Fair and the others. Like someone said, if you don't get pressure on Trey, these kids will rip your heart out. I don't believe this group had three catches between them last season but look at them now! With just an average day by the defense I look for the Rebels to roll in this one.
  5. Please enlighten us. If it's not scheme, then what is it? And if it is not a 3-4 then tell us what it is, oh brilliant one. It really doesn't matter anyway cuz whatever it is still don't work.
  6. That's a whole other issue. Seems to me no assistants stay long enough for the kids to learn the schemes, so they are always learning something new. Tell me there's a good chance he will be back next year and I'll concede your point.
  7. From someone who has been in that situation, not asking him to throw anyone under the bus, but it's still not too late to try something different on defense, because it's clear to a blind man what they are doing isn't working. I will agree that some of the blame lies on an offense that can't score inside the 10.
  8. Obion County has had the talent to compete with every team they have been on the field with this season, with maybe the exception of Cape Central. After watching just several games, however, it was evident they wouldn't be able to stop anyone's offense. They are making average qbs and average rbs look like the next coming. The kid rushed for 300 yards plus the other night without being touched more than a few times before he got to the third level. That, my friends, has nothing to do with athletic ability and a lot to do with defensive scheme. I read with interest the coach's comments following the game where he basically defended the defense. To me, you can't defend giving up an average of 30-plus ppg when you a lot of your best athletes playing one way on defense. If you score 30 you ought to win. All this has nothing to do with jr highs, etc and a lot to do with getting out of that 3-4 read which by the way leaves a smallish corner in a man on every play. IT JUST ISN'T WORKING!
  9. From what I could see, the Rebels defense did step up, but the offense deserves a lot of credit as well for the physicality they heaped on the two-way starters on UC defense. They wore down the two-way starters/ It still amazes me that the most physical players on the field are usually the little receivers for the Rebels. Good win now on to the state.
  10. I have no confidence that the Rebels defense can stop anyone... they haven't so far. To me, they need to score 40 plus and get two turnovers to have a chance. The offense has to be on the field more than they have in recent weeks. That said think they will be able to pull it off this week and win 41-27 or something in that neighborhood.
  11. Very good week of practice for OCC so far. I look for a big win for the Rebels this week. Hopefully the Hit Man will pick us to lose. The kids have been going at it and getting physical. OCC 34, UC 28
  12. New to this, so pardon the double post. Not meaning my post as a criticism of the coaches or players, cuz I'm a big fan. Just really curious as to why the coach is being so hardheaded about not playing his better players both ways. I love the offense and it is exciting to watch, but sometimes coaches can't see the forest for the trees... and that is just playing the right players and using the talent you have to its fullest and you don't do that if they aren't ever on the field. The defense could use an infusion of players like McGrew and Fair and it wouldn't hurt the offense to use Patterson and the big kid at receiver, they have shown what they can do when given the chance.
  13. Let's wrap this up in a neat package. The Rebels are not going to be successful as long as they continue to not do or do the following: A. Get their best players on the field on BOTH sides of the football... they really need to start playing some of their better players both ways. B. Improve the special teams play. Stop kicking off to the 35 and giving up field position on kickoffs. I know someone on the team can help in this matter I've seen them do it. Also, please block someone, or at least try on returns. C. The defense has got to tackle someone and at least try and cover the pass when opponents do get in a bind, which isn't often. Again I believe that can be fixed by adding some speed on that side of the ball. Also, cut out all the stupid late hits, etc. D. The offense needs some changes made, especially on the line. Too many guys can pass block only and the holding penalties are just out of hand. Phipps has looked rattled the last two games releasing the ball either too late or off target. E. The players looked absolutely miserable and uninspired their last game. They need to loosen up and have some fun. I think the talent is there, but something is missing and that's a genuine enthusiasm for the game or so it appears. In conclusion, it's not too late to turn things around and be successful but it's getting close. The schedule does ease up but IMO, it seems like some are falling back on the old excuse about how great the opponents have been. I know, 9-0 is good, but in all reality the Rebels should be 3-1 at best, 2-2 at worst. Kids are resilient and a win over UC would do a lot towards building some momentum and getting back to the playoffs.
