  1. You know Wes, you were doing real well right up to the cheap shot at the announcer. What in the name of football did the announcer have to do with the game? Lenoir City won because they were prepared, well coached, bigger, stronger...all the things good football teams are supposed to be. I said it after the game and I'll say it again...the LC team I saw tonight is better than the Columbia team that won the state last year and, based on last week's results, obviously better than the Columbia team this year and this year's Centennial team. All that good stuff and then you go and blow it. Here's good wishes for the Panthers the next three weeks from Williamson County. I refuse to judge the team/school/community for one person's, hopefully momentary, lack of judgement.
  2. Well, you know, I'm a sportswriter. Ask anybody...like coaches, we don't have a clue!
  3. CHSTeamplayer is probably better qualified to answer the questions than I am. I'm usually too busy grabbing notes from play results. Colors: Columbia blue, White (and I still count Navy, but I think that's a no-no now). Mascot: Cougars O: More of a pro set D: 4-3 I believe with lots of movement O-Line: Small comparatively...6-1, 210ish D-Line: Again, relatively small...6-2, 215ish Not sure I can pick one or individuals because the list would get long. Not a dominator, per se, on either side of the ball. This is really a "No Name" TEAM. Hoping for a good game. Travel safely.
  4. Game time: 7 p.m. Central Standard Standard Time (an hour behind you) And since I'm too lazy to really search today...a few questions about Lenior City: 1) Colors? 2) Mascot? 3) Base Offensive set? 4) Base Defensive set? 5) O-line/D-line avg sizes? Hearing stories about a junior WR that is touted as possibly the best in the state in 5A. Details? Thanks
  5. From an outsiders point of view (if you're interested), I thought the Tullahoma coaches did a pretty good job. This comes from a media guy who has followed all the Wilco teams this year and has some really good and some really bad coaches over the course of 11 games. Don't blame the coach(es) for one bad night. I had the picked as a toss-up and I sure didn't see the turnovers coming. Sometimes in this game, things start to snowball in some games and you can't blame coaching or players. It's one of those things. For whatever it's worth, I had a lot of respect for the Tullahoma program going into the game; I came away with even more.
  6. If by "these guys" you mean Centennial, yes, they are in Middle Tennessee. Actually, they are in Franklin, TN, just south of Nashville and about 20 miles north of Columbia. If you're looking for a nav point, key in 5050 Mallory Lane, Franklin, TN 37067. Easiest way is usually through Nashville, but not with traffic. Might suggest I-40 West to I-840, go West towards Huntsville/Memphis, cross over I-24 and continue to I-65 then go north (towards Nashville) and exit at McEwen Drive (I think Exit 71). Turn left, go through a couple of lights to Mallory Lane and turn left. School is about 1/4-mile down on the left. Now, if you're asking about Lenoir City, I feel (and look) pretty stupid! Enjoy the trip and bring the pocketbook! The best mall in the state is less than a mile north of the school on Mallory Lane!
  7. I'm hoping this post is tongue in cheek. This is Ronnie Carters plan.....
  8. Great points. And given the "wiggle room" being displayed, I've been amazed at the Franklin-Smyrna and Brentwood-Indy first round match-ups. Franklin-Smyrna played in the last half of the season (IIRC) and Bwood-Indy are in the same district. Huh? Being familiar with Districts 9, 11 and 12 this just strikes me as poor bracketing. There may be issues in other parts of the state that are similar, but sure seems as if the system is, as stated ad naseum, broken.
  9. Just wanted to say thanks, again, for a great job this year! I for one appreciate being able to see and/or review during the week!
  10. I've said since the move to the "Z" plan (copied after Virginia) that if it was such a great plan, why did Viriginia drop it after two years? They dropped it, we picked it up? Huh? As for rotating, it would be a wonderful idea, but it's tough to keep a local group focused for a year, then give them two years off. Chambers of Commerce aren't going to like the idea. Besides, remember it's not SIX title games, it's EIGHT! Don't forget the two DII games are on Thursday, three on Friday and three on Saturday. But it does fill up motels and restuarants. I remember the three class system, when only the district champ advanced...then we added second place...then we said top four from the region...and on and on and on. Sacrcasm here, but let's just give every team a golden ball on August 1 of each year then let 'em play.
  11. And what would those "reasons" be, o wise one? In your high school world you call them pranks. In the real world they are called misdemeanors. What exactly has come out of Centennial the past few years? And by the way, it's not a "uniform"; it's a dress code. And that's a site-based decision, not something forced by the central office-it EXCEEDS the county requirements. Gosh, imagine that...doing more than is required.... Deal in facts, not opinion. One place we do agree...here's hoping for a well played, injury free game. Should be a good one.
  12. Double check the numbers and see if the year before, the first of the two year cycle, if they were 1A-2A enrollment. That could explain one year of being in a "lower" classification. Happens to new schools all the time. Now, having defended that issue, let me make everybody angry (angrier): IF SM looses the appeal, the wins should not be "vacated"; instead, they should be forfeits! None of this 2-3 season record. If the BOC denies the appeal, then the record should be 2-8 or whatever it turns out to be with forfeits. And no, under the current, flawed system, the teams "gaining" a win should not be able to count them for play-off purposes....but they should have one more "W".
  13. Guess since I started this monstronsity, I should end it. I was so interested in the second half I really didn't look too hard at the first half video. However, it is more than clear from the first half video that the sign said, clearly, "Heck yeah for homecoming." I never intended for the venom that has been spewed to become a part of the discussion, I was just looking for either clarification or explaination.
  14. Great job as always. Excellent equipment and editing. Question...I stopped at the 2:37 mark of the "Second half/Overtime" piece. On the fence in front of the Franklin grandstands are two signs. One says "Beat the Bulldogs." What does the other one say?
  15. Wow. So much for my annonimity (sic)! Yep, I know exactly what you're talking about and saw more than I ever thought I would. Others within my organization are working the issues in your second paragraph. So far, it's pretty tight lipped. I heard about the ballooons and smoke bombs. I saw the paint after the fact. Hope they realize how expensive a mascot costume and cheerleader uniforms can be. There's a column coming on the post-game issue. The home team did a good job of having security on site, they just weren't at the right place at the right time for that issue. I've also heard some rumblings from a few cheerleaders that, if I can get confirmation, turns my stomach. But until then, it's just a rumor. I have many reasons to make sure something is correct before it's ever printed, much less discussed on a message board.
  16. No truer words were ever spoken. Trust me, I know. But from a macro view, the analysis is pretty good. The challenges in Metro are, in my opinion, much greater than in any of the surrounding counties. That said, there are a few, a very small group, that are in Metro that are just taking up space and supplements. But it's been that way forever. The large majority of the Metro coaches are fighting the "battles" every day, some trying to control the things they cannot control, in an effort to make a positive difference. Those are the ones, no matter what the record, that are winners.
  17. Gambler-don't misunderstand. I agree with your assessment of Coach Anderson and that's after many years of watching and working around him in many capacities. Guess I just expected the old "hand-off right, hand-off left" offensive scheme at that point. In the moment, I think a score, TD or FG, was inevitable. And yes, Coach Rector lined everybody up on the south goal line for the post-game meeting. Every coach has a post game gathering. Most do it in a circle; he didn't. Big deal. To call it an, "incident," puts a personal agenda slant on it that doesn't fit. And yeah, I know that wasn't your word. As for the cleaning, IMHO, he was teaching the kids to take care of the things they have (putting away the "carpet" from both sides and moving benches) rather than just "cleaning". It's called personal responsibility, something that is lacking in some teams. One thing is for sure...the Cougars and Rector appear to be the newest lightning rod in Williamson County. Just wait until Scot Keasler and the freshmen and sophomores at Summit grow up.....
  18. EXCELLENT video! Will truly help me complete my notes for work. Turnovers, kick coverage...pretty well covers it. Must admit I still haven't figured out the move by Coach Anderson to throw for the final touchdown with less than 3 minutes left. That kind of stuff will come back to haunt you eventually.
  19. Honestly cannot answer that one. I thought it was Collier, but it could have been the new kid. I was trying to watch the line play and visiting quite a bit.
  20. Centennial looked better throwing the ball. Collier more accurate and the receivers did a good job of adding yards after the catch. Too many drops, though. Better than Stratford, but still too many drops. Defense looked pretty good. Page showed both progress and growing pains with new offense. Lots of misdirection and that takes reps to get down and they haven't had that time yet. Defense held it's own agains the run. About what you would expect 5/6A vs. 3/4A at this point. Did anyone notice a coaches poll in the TENNESSEAN ranks Centennial #3 in the district this year? Interesting....
  21. Hey, hey, hey.....be careful...don't be hatin' the band...... And the issue about paying the coaches...it's to make sure the FEDERAL taxes are taken. Not everybody was reporting the income and the booster clubs weren't issuing 1099's miscellaneous income forms. Same thing that sent Al Capone to Alcatraz.
  22. Collier was at QB most of the day. Report on the injured player was it was a stinger, moving extremities and talking before the ambulance arrived. Dr. Colin Looney from Bone and Joint (who from personal experience I like a lot!) was on the sidelines and suggested transport for evaluation. My understanding is the young man is going to be fine. If I hear different, I'll post, unless someone beats me to it!
  23. Having watched several of those Vandy games, I can tell you how they got "only" 4 wins. First, they were competing against teams that have been traveling a great deal of the summer doing nothing but passing camps. Secondly, the secondaries they faced were, for the most part, superior to what they'll see in 11-AAA. Not that the district is weak, but these teams were very strong. Thirdly, and I was biased for all the county teams, they got hosed at least twice in games that should have been wins. The last hosing would have advanced them one more round. The team that got that win went on to finish second I believe. The point I'm making...Franklin will be solid and the QB will make good throws. They are not as good as some think and next year ain't looking so hot. As for Centennial, they are not as bad as some paint them and I think they'll surprise some folks, but the next two years should be really good. Best advice I ever got: Don't under estimate anybody!
  24. Donovan Stewart at www.Unapproved Website reporting the imminent hire of Dwayne Alexander, late of Cumberland University by way of Wilson Central. Too bad BGA didn't inform the local papers first.....Hogan had already broken the story to us!
