  2. first, TSSAA sets the pay scale but the schools actually pays the officials. TSSAA is out no money for the officials. If pay is based on merit, who decides the actual pay? Right now it would be the school; that opens up a whole 55-gallon drum of issues. Double header = $90 = about 3 hours. $30 an hour is pretty good pay. blah blah blah, about taking out for gas and other stuff. The reason for officials being down is the pay they get to put up with the terrible fans, coaches and players. nearly every fan in the stands thinks they know the rules and can do a better job. And only wants infractions called in favor of their team. Very very rarely have i heard a fan yell at an official for missing a call that was not in favor of their team. Every coach only complains when the call doesnt go their way. And Player B or Player G gets an attitude when they foul, walk, or think they were touched. How about let's teach our kids respect and manners toward the officials. But we cant do that because our coach is constantly complaining and the parents are sitting in the stands coming just short of verbal harrassment. I imagine it would go a long way toward the schmucks in stripes if the players played, the coaches coached and the fans cheered for their team instead of trying to multi-task and be an official at the same time.
  3. according to the conspiracists, the family only moved because the student was recruited and wants to play for the better team. So in order to remove all doubts and conspiracy theories, no transfers are allowed. Go to the new school but no athletic competition. Oh, and throw in they cannot play in the band or sing in chorus or any other activity.
  4. but it did at least take until 3 or 4 games has been played. close the open-enrollment schools and stop having the public schools "convince" students to leave a school and come to their school Lets just make a rule that says no student can transfer to any school regardless the reason. Once you start at a school, the student must stay the entire 12 years.
  5. since you are from Memphis, you know that playing the district tournys in memphis is like playing in the SEC. You got to come play every game and the other team is going to come to play. The best team in Memphis (and the state) sometimes gets to stay in memphis instead of playing in the glass house...
  6. for me, i dont watch highlight videos because that is just what they are: highlights. I prefer to watch live before i grant them players the "greatest" title. if i am around Antioch or if Lighthouse rolls into Memphis area, I will be glad to come watch them play. And them then give a humble opinion. Also, stick to your beliefs; either they are the greatest or they are the top 3-4. They cant be both.
  7. I love the idea of people taking as much interest in High School sports as the "pundits" do on college and pro. Much continued success. There is a local show that does the same thing for Shelby County and the surrounding area. I am not associated with the show, but it can be found at http://shelbymetrosports.blogspot.com/ Listen every Friday to the Metro Sports Pre-game Show from 6:00 - 6:30 pm and the Scoreboard Show from 9:30 - 11:00pm on AM560 and 87.7FM.
  8. dont give the gold to Webb just yet Harding or SGIS will have something to say as to how easy it will be
  9. @BABABA, the July practice is legal this year. @TopperCrazy, why wait a full year to ask this question?
  10. conflicts already exist. The basketball, volleyball and soccer coach will have to get on the same page if a student wants to play more than basketball.
  11. Just curious, how many of the privates that play D1 now, that have enrollments that put them in the smaller D2A, request to play with the larger schools in D2AA
  12. nothing wrong with your opinion and if it is right to you then its ok with me. i too have seen white station play couple times this year. I dont think they had a bad night, i think Arlington had a better night. And since this was opinion, my opinion is that to leave Arlington out of the list and have 2 teams they beat in the tournament and 1 team that lost in first round in this dream tourny is not good.
  13. and this one from Arlington's Adarius Avery... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3x6vExZiOg
  14. well, since Arlington did beat White Station and Siegal, Arlington shouldbe in over either of these two teams regardless. Total disrespect of Arlington.
  15. I will respond to your last comment first. The TSSAA is already a majority rules organization. The board is elected by the TSSAA member schools of each region as representatives for their region. When they vote on things it is majority wins. And you think letting the government oversee it.... Now that is completely ridiculous. Our elected officials cannot run the state government. They will surely mess it up worst than it already is. You think the TSSAA makes money now, wait until the true politicians get their hands in the jar. Privates are not the only schools that recruit. Publics in medium to large cities do the same. The TSSAA lets the schools self-police themselves, just like the NCAA. The problem with this is that no one will turn in another school because they AD's do not want people snooping and turning them in. Just like offensive holding or a foul in basketball, they can be called on every play, all schools have some dirt in the closet.
  16. No child left behind... every child should have the same opportunity to play sports. Again, the TSSAA has the rules voted on by represenatives of every member school that allows for these scenarios. And just like any governing body, it is only as good as the people willing to stay involved and voice their opinions to their representatives. All discussion has been good and their are more valid points on the split. As others have said and IT WILL BE true if the split happens that the public schools will still recruit and get transfers from other public schools. Then there will discussion on Magnet/Charter schools being public but they can recruit due to their academic options. Then it will be open enrollment school districts. To me, the real outcry should be from all schools, public, private, charter, magnet, for the TSSAA to enforce the recruiting and financial aid rules that are on the books. And when enforcing them, dont give a quick backhand slap but a good ole, drop-your-pants, get the willow switch spanking. When a couple of schools get real punishment, the field will begin to level.
  17. Be careful what you ask for, young grasshopper....
  18. CarolinaCrazy...."Don't understand Arlington holding for one shot with 2:26 to go?? Looked like it kinda messed there flow and energy up they had going." I promise there are alot, no all the AHS fans are screaming the same thing coming back to Memphis.
  19. congrats to Oak Ridge on Finals. Congrats to Arlington for an outstanding season. Great game, at least the audio described a great game.
  20. for those of you who where there, I heard the excitement of the announcers on the audio, but how was the dunk by Avery? and was it a charge? Radio guys did not think so...
  21. Hamilton Heights play in the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA). MHEA (Memphis Homeschool) and FCA plays in the National Christian Homeschool Athletic Associations. TSSAA sanctions them so they can play games.
  22. Thanks Pujo. I didnt know at first, so i went to there website before i posted earlier. I assumed when I saw the link to scholarships, it was private. I know the assumption thing...
  23. Homeschool teams are allowed to play TSSAA schools but that is it. They comepete in their own district/region/national tournaments. I believe it is in the by-laws that if a public school does not offer a specific team, swimming, tennis, etc, a student can participate at another school in that sport but still attend their normal school. The same goes for Homeschool kids.
  24. there was also Columbia Academy, Goodpasture,
