  1. Wooooh now, slow up on that type of talk about Memphis. Its good to talk about other parts of the state but stay away from bringing the most honest, cleanest, rule abiding group of schools in the state into this conversation.
  2. CPA would have the same advantage as they have now if they played in D2, so they are a different animal. I really think schools want to play better competition. Nothing wrong with this as long as the school adheres to the governing rules of TSSAA regarding financial aid, regardless what it is called. I know, I know, i hear it as I type. TSSAA HAS TO, MUST MUST MUST enforce the rules that exist today. If TSSAA would enforce the rules, there would be no advantage in a few years after sanctions were leveed. Now, along with playing the D1 competition, schools can say, "we beat the team that your child would go to, so come go here for a better 'opportunity'". This is wrong anyway someone wants to spin it. Wrong.
  3. A - 0 - 8 AA - 1 - 8 Livingston Academy (lost quarters to Elizabethton), MLK is a magnet public school AAA - there are none in AAA
  4. No idea on the financial aid policies of CPA other than what i have read at CoachT and 5 minutes worth of research on their homepage.
  5. No worries. I read it and i do agree that that many would drown if they stayed out in the rain long enough
  6. this is not meant to be insulting but it may sound that was when you read it. Our kids would rather have a better quality of food than they get from the food service at our school. something about hospital and coach-class airplane food is an improvement. The teachers' pay for privates is for the vast majority lower than public schools. the distinction between public and private has to do with the atmosphere and philosophy that a private school can adopt.
  7. I want to understand your statement, "It's a choice THEY made right or wrong to seperate not the public schools". I did not know the history of the split until the other day. As I understand it, the public schools in D1 A-AA wanted the privates out due to football in mid 90's. The Board of TSSAA voted for the split and put in the rules covering tuition and playing in D1 with public schools.
  8. From listening online and according to the announcers description, BB started fouling or had fouls called on them early in 4th. BTW made their FT's
  9. That is not good unless the player used one of the no-no words.
  10. My apologies. I thought I had answered the question but I guess not. Is it fair to play by the rules that are written? Yes. Are the rules, as written, fair? Probably. Is TSSAA's enforcement of the rules fair? That is a BIG NO. To me, that is the unfair part. The rules say and i am paraphrasing, a school cannot provide any financial aid to students and be able to play in D1. When a D1, private school provides any financial assistance for tuition, they should be punished severely. When tthe rules are not enforced, they do not need to be changed, the TSSAA should enforce them.
  11. I was educated in a public school in Arkansas in the 70's and 80's so far from the priveledges of a private school. This is a message board not an English class so instead of continuing to discuss the topic you chose to critize a person that has a different opinion from yours with sentence syntax correction.
  12. I was speaking of the word "If". ... "The nearest private is 40 miles away (two of them in our district), and If little Johnny is recruited..."
  13. Somewhere east of TN River.
  14. No problem. One day soon, which will actually be about 6 years, I too will be living in a small town in the hills of east TN... Would I be considered a transfer?
  15. What they did in the past is the past. If they continue to recruit and provide financial aid, then that is cheating and not fair. Also, In the middle of a sentence, you should not capitalize a word unless it is a proper noun "The nearest private is 40 miles away (two of them in our district), and If little Johnny is recruited..."
  16. Being that shelby County school district has about 100k students encompassing 5 or 6 suburbs. Even after next year when the suburb cities have their own municipality school districts, there will still be some sort of open enrollment for any student in Shelby County.
  17. They are part of the Shelby County school district just as all Memphis city limit school. And a good percentage of the students at Arlington high school do not live in the city limits of Arlington TN. Nice try... Stop hating on Memphis
  18. for the CPA folks. Just curious because I dont know the answer. Has the power schools in AAA basketball turned down/refused/rejected playig CPA? or have they just not been approached?
  19. if they go independant, they would be because they would not be hampered by TSSAA restrictions on recruiting and scholarships..
  20. I think that is best idea that has ever been suggested.
  21. not being sarcastic... Glad to see you are not done. good dicussion is the way to come together. Unfortunatley, since the TSSAA board or reps are not elected by the state, they have no fear being replaced which means do they really care for what the schools want? Are the votes for topics public knowledge? we need to lump Public schools in this statement as well. And the messuring stick for most people to be "the best" is by winning. mine too...
  22. from speaking with other seniors in the past, most try to get to school as soon as high school is over for a summer class or two to help load-balance the first 2 semesters. they also work out and continue with conditioning.
  23. if the voting took place before this past weekend, I believe Leron will win for AAA. If it has not, CJ Anderson will win.
  24. read into the facetiousness of my comments. below is my answer to this earlier regarding playing during tournament times. pretty sure i dont work for you unless you live in memphis. And i am pretty sure that my state sales tax pays for your child to go to public school and if that helps keep one student in school to get a quality education and be successful as an adult, it is worth every penny.
  25. been there done that on 20 young men playing football and that was the whole team. Been there when there was 7 girls to play varisity basketball. tough to practice when there is not enough to practice. There is no greater pride in young men and women to see the efforts and sacrifices they put in on and off the field. But lets all be honest. Its about Winning. It has nothing to do with competion or fairness or anything but the parents having to Win. If CPA and Goddpasture and fill in the blank with any other private school was not winning, this would not be a discussion. We as adults tell them that that team is better than you because they cheat or because they have more money than you do or they recruit or whatever the reason. Athletics is supposed to teach us how to work hard, sacrifice, teamwork, handle tough situations for OUR ADULT LIVES. When they get to a job, as most if not all of us know, the job world is not fair.
