  1. Ponchez is happy and has had no reason not to be any year. James will be wearing Green and Gold soon. Good luck next season. Also, beware of Shawn Banks. He is not a person Goodpasture would want involved in any way with there programs. Markell Rice, though has turned kids away from Gallatin in the past for unfounded reasons, I believe has grown and has overall good intentions.
  2. I'm sure there are a lot of ramifications that will end up happening to the school for years to come. I would imagine most will be based off perception rather than reality. I just pray for the young man and thatthe school and community can move forward and somehow grow from this experience.
  3. What schools do others commenting on here support?
  4. What are the other problems outside of the recent basketball fiasco? People say more to come... Shut down football and all men's sports... Fire everyone... What is the rest in the state missing? Sounds like the right things are happening as investigation goes on just not initially or at the speed of social media. Why is this area and school so bad besides this incident?
  5. This is saddest post ever. Freedom of religion... Race card... Find a new excuse yourself. Good luck to Coach Joslin, Coach Alexander and Jermaine Mason this upcoming year.
  6. So you're saying there's a chance…
  7. I remember him as a freshman. Very coordinated for a big skill freshman. Only wish TC played Gallatin again.
  8. Joslin is a good coach and motivational speaker. Where is the poster talking about Gallatin's tailback?
  9. I doubt you'll see 10-12 Lineman also be heavyweight wrestlers on the same school team but, yes he is on to something. Those lineman who wrestle will improve on footwork and grappling at the line of scrimmage. It is simple repetition that will improve endurance as well.
  10. Gallatin wins 63-60 at the buzzer.
  11. Not for high school or NCAA. I don't know how NAIA rules are. It would be fun to sneak in there.
  12. Could you share the links to your research?
  13. I'm quiet a bit old school as well. I remember before spring football existed. You definately have to have full contact for certain teachable moments. Spring football is not exempt from this, just finite to the bigger picture during that time frame. 10 practices and 2 scrimmages are short time to prepare and play as if in season. Competition internally should far outweigh competition of an opponent in spring. I would suggest five practices with the fifth beginning a contact practice in spring and no scrimmage first week. A controlled practice with another or multiple schools during the second week would be beneficial. The only true scrimmage I would recommend would be a controlled inner squad or for a smaller school against an opponent .
  14. Absolutely. Here's some reality that I will spin as well. Several starting in spring will not be starting in fall. It should build depth, however, many kids feel pressured as they must choose football or they will lose their position come fall or others quit that started in spring once they realize their role is little to no playing time come fall. It is unfortunate but does happen everywhere. I still believe July will always give you more answers and as quick than April/May. Again, many states do not even have spring football. I'm glad Tennessee does but, it's primary role should be educational and can still be of evaluation for coaches with less scrimmage/contact. Injury rates are much higher in spring than fall. See previous links.
  15. Football players should lift during spring even if in another spring sport. If that spring sport has a inseason lifting program, it can be modified for the individual's success in both. I believe spring football is not a true look when many starters are competing in spring sports. Your best athletes should be multi sport athletes.
  16. Soccer is a contact sport while Football is a collision sport. Soccer produces the third highest injuries behind football and wrestling. Injury rate versus exposure is also a stat to consider. http://www.wou.edu/~kiddk/PE%20359/2013_Handbook/HealthCareAdmin/View_Read/Injury%20Rate%20%26%20Patterns%20.%20.%20FOLDER/NCAA_InjurySurvey.pdf Concerning Concussions, football has a higher rate than soccer with Girls soccer higher than boys soccer. http://www.apta.org/PTinMotion/News/2015/10/7/ConcussionNCAA/

  18. Not trying to upset you but, bring the stats. There are still many injuries but evidence based research will show that the majority of those rib, MCL and ACL injuries occur with contact. Again, I'm for contact, just not as much in April/May. Serves little purpose when it can be done in July. Spring practice would be as beneficial with one controlled multiple team contact practice and one intersquad in spring.
  19. Kids get hurt driving vehicles as well but they are still allowed to get their license at 16. Spring football has more risk due to contact versus working out or 7 on 7s. With a new contact rules from TSSAA, this will affect spring football as well. Your statement regarding the NFL is inaccurate. The NFL has had 34% decrease in concussions between 2012 and 2014. Here are a few examples: http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2015/12/24/high-tech-gear-aims-lessen-deadly-risk-football-concussions/75960372/ http://www.vibe.com/2015/09/nfl-head-injury-safety-jeff-miller-interview/
  20. If I was Coach A, I would be looking. Seems a difficult time for all.
  21. This is a great topic and I like your insight on previous topics regarding such things such as girls basketball strength and conditioning we discussed a year or so ago. First, I believe everything that LBD mentioned can be done in July with a couple more months of strength and conditioning giving you an even better look. Secondly, spring should be heavy on education concerning plays, schemes and especially technique. I believe the risk versus reward is greater in putting two scrimmages in that short of time will leave many inexperienced players ill prepared. Every year I hear about a young man out for the season from spring practice. I do not see a team ready to scrimmage after a handful of practices. We can better justify this in June and July with the gradual acclimatization between 7 on 7s to full contact. Lastly, modifying spring practice to a controlled opponent practice and maybe a controlled inner squad scrimmage to cap things off would be much better than to have multiple contact practices and two scrimmages within two weeks. I believe the changes in contact which began this past season is trickling down from the changes in the NFL and their concussion issues. This isn't just a plug for the Concussion movie but it is the reality we now live. Just so people do not view this is wussuffocation of high school football, the state of Ohio has some pretty good football and they do not even allow spring practice.
