  1. That's my understanding. He will be ready for week 0.
  2. He has a reputation of putting players through bootcamp style practices. Spring practice was probably a huge shock to many of the boys who played in the previous system. I also read Coach Blade would rather have a small team of dedicated and tough players than a roster full of guys just out there for the right to wear the jersey to school on Friday. I don't think Blade is crying too much over the players who left. But what he didn't know or gamble on when he took the job was the impact the split of the school would have on his team. Blade was quoted in the Oak Ridge paper saying he was going to a 6A school with 1900 students. In reality Indy will be in the low 1400's next year and maybe the high 1200's the following year though probably in the 1300's. I was told by a former coach over two years ago that they were already worried about the number of lineman being zoned out of Indy in the lower grades....the grades that are now juniors and seniors.
  3. I meant to post that here. I mentioned it in the 11AAA strength of schedule thread. Yeah, he's going to tough it out with shots to the hip. Blade is certainly blessed at the skill positions but I just saw where his roster has gone from 43 to 34 players in the past 20 days. That's spread over three classes. Two of those are kickers/ punters only. He only has 10 seniors and 12 juniors now. But a bigger problem is that he is down to only 7 lineman: 1 senior, 3 juniors, and 3 sophomores. Two of the lineman are a good AAA size. (5'11"/ 260 and 6'3"/ 235) But the other five average 5'9"/ 169 lbs.
  4. Any idea what's the composition of the junior class? Is it a lot of back-ups from the feeder schools or did they get some quality starters?
  5. Because surgery was going to be delayed so long (4-6 weeks) which would have cost VW his senior season, he decided to do shots in the hip so that he can play in the fall.
  6. Josh Goodwin is the new Summit coach. Coached last year at Sycamore. Mary Beth White moves over from Antioch to take the Indy job.
  7. And there is not a nicer kid than Finis. I was thrilled when I learned Missouri offered him. I still remember watching him single handily destroy Woodland MS when he was an 8th grader at Heritage. He had three returns for TD's alone. Indy is blessed at QB next year if Blade doesn't change people around too much. They have two sophomores in Andrew Bunch who is tough as nails and throws a beautiful ball and the last of the Swayze clans in Adam. He is already bigger than his older brother and cousins and is very athletic. The RB position is probably an uknown to Blade at this point because of track. The Indy sprinters are competing right now in the state championships so they missed spring ball. There are a couple of underclassman with elite speed that Blade will probably have at his disposal. But as you have probably seen me post before ND, they are going to rely on a lot young lineman. The starters have to stay healthy all year long. Spring ball went well for Summit and we look ready to make the jump to 11AAA. The core of boys who took a beating as freshmen and sophomores are big, strong, and very experienced now. The defense is stout and is led by the senior Merritt twins, senior and junior Gomoljak brothers, and three more seniors, Hughes, Shriner, and Wisdom and junior Vasey. The secondary is very talented, deep, and athletic with seniors Hunter, Shearry, and Refegee leading the way. The junior DB's (Campbell, Austin, and Carr) are ball hawks and very athletic. The offense is blessed to have a line that for the most part plays just one way. The tackles are both juniors and very talented. The LT, Tyrell, does play DE as well and has a bright future. He has great feet. The RT, Vantrease, is a big boy (over 6'4"/ 290) and dishes out abuse. The line is ancored by a senior Kevin Cox. He's been the starter since day one. The secondary is a lot of the offensive skill people. Dee Hunter gained over a 1000 yds rushing last year at QB but moves to the main running back spot. Our OC's son takes over at QB this year and knows how to run dad's offense. Kicking and punting look great. So we will see. I won't predict how we will do because it is such a jump from AA to AAA. But they are ready.
  8. It is the same. He was a standout at Indy and was part of the core group who led the Eagles to the 5A State title game in 2007 against Smyrna.
  9. Partially torn labrum. Hip surgery will keep him out until week 3, 4, or 5.
  10. Here is the 2012 staff: Dyson, Bobby Cieslak, Red Roberts, Kyle Castles, Greg Burns, Alex Heckman, Ryan Consiglio, Lee Nachand, and Vic Wharton. The 2013 staff: Blade, Chad Gates (Indy Frosh coach last year), Burns, Jonathan Boren (asst frosh coach at Indy last year), Nachand, Heckman, and Keith Hudson. Hudson was the middle school coach for the feeder school a couple of years ago and was very successful with youth football teams in Spring Hill prior to that.
  11. Just read in the Franklin Home Page that Vic Wharton is having hip surgery to repair a partially torn labrum. He will be out 2-4 months. The article said that VW tweeted with a Vol fan that he will be back in week 3,4, or 5.
  12. Summit vs. Giles. Winner takes on Marshall. Page vs. Lewis. Winner takes on Spring Hill.
  13. 11-4. Super Sophomore Karlton Turcois had a grand slam and two triples.
  14. Woodward from Antioch. It's on the Williamson Herald website.
  15. Summit swept East Hickman 7-1 and 13-1. And to deviate for a moment from the Page/ Summit thread; Marshall Co. swept Spring Hill this week 7-1 and 5-3.
  16. You are correct. Game is off due to mother nature. I remember that second game well from last year. Gave a young team a lot of mental toughness.
  17. Summit vs. Page from the Williamson Herald: A House Divided: Brothers at separate schools go head-to-head http://www.williamsonherald.com/sports?id=83246
  18. Summit over Giles Co. 5-3 in nine innings. 6-2 in the district now with a big series coming up against Page.
  19. Summit 4-Giles Co. 2 Sophomore Zach Mather with another great pitching performance.
  20. Summit beat Hickman Co. last night 5-2; Forrest and Creek Wood today 11-0 and 9-4.
  21. Summit dropped two to Spring Hill but won tonight over Hickman Co. 3-2.
  22. After beating Marshall Co. last night at home 4-2 on a complete game by Dale Burdick, Summit won tonight 1-0 in nine innings. Summit stole home to get the win. Sophomore Zach Mather and Junior Jordan Kelley pitched the shutout for the Spartans.
  23. That's pretty much how it went down. Tough way to lose but we started off with CHS last year as well and the results were much different. CHS won last NIGHT 7-2 over us at their house. But the Spartans are well coached and talented; though still young. (3 juniors and 12 sophomores) It should be fun watching them this season.
  24. Young team. No seniors in the school yet. Start three junior forwards with a lot of ability. The guards are young but can shoot well.
