  2. https://www.greenevillesun.com/opinion/letters_to_editor/visiting-journalist-impressed-with-ghs-greeneville/article_ad55f58e-9790-5c30-a9e3-8c189bb0c382.html Just going to leave this here.
  3. Were you at the game?I have moved on! I do not follow basketball! It was a great game and the better team won the game. My bad I guess #68 saw someone in the home stands he knew and was just waving hello to them in the 3rd and 4th quarter after his team scored touchdowns! I stand corrected!
  4. So a 16 year old kid with a D1 scholarship offer from UT and a verbal commit to said scholarship offer gets a free pass on his actions because he is just 16 years old. All along I thought these D1 programs were looking for guys with talent and character, thank you for clarifying this up for me.
  5. Eric Striker said Butch Jones approached him during the post game celebration and said, "You're a heckuva player, but have some darn class." This speech needs to be given to #68! By Butch Jones if this player is going to be a future Vol!
  6. I see a Devils team that has to play with fire and discipline going forward. IMO both have been missing for most of this season. Too many times drives have been thwarted by personal fouls away from the ball or play. I know the coaching staff are preaching it to the kids but it seems to me these kids don't get it. With our defense all is required of the offense is 1) protect the ball, 2) move the chains, and don't shoot yourself in the foot with drive killing penalties.IMO. If they do that they have a chance to win every game going forward. I sat at the game last night and watched the sideline in the early stages of the 3rd quarter with us up 24 points. I see groups of players not watching the game or supporting their teammates. They are too busy shooting the breeze, laughing, pointing around, punching each other in the stomach, ect!! The starters were still on the field and the defense made a stop to end a scoring drive and most of the bench players didn't even know it or bother to clap or cheer. This program is what it is because of the dedication of past players and the coaching staff! The success of the program has been earned not given!
  7. Qb will be the big question no doubt but replacing 2 Defensive players that were in on roughly 400 tackles between them the last 2 seasons is not an easy fix. No one wanted to run up the middle or to the Defensive right because of them 2 players.
  8. I guess we should do away with pre game dunks in basketball warm-ups. Prior to the referee's showing up on court. I am sure the Basketball Falcons don't ever do anything like that do they. My only issue was her using an electronic bull horn to amplify her voice. BTW I was told by one of our people last year the she is a very nice person. This gentleman has known her for years and said she was very passionate about her school.
  9. BTW only thing classless that I have ever witnessed at a HS game. Is loud mouth obnoxious woman using an electronic bull horn to talk trash during the whole game. Making fun of players and fans during the game. Do you have any Idea where that occurred? I will let you answer that one Dude!
  10. I do not know what you are talking about classless. We did our routine at Fulton last year and they responded to it. I thought both teams at the 50 last year was an awesome site and it showed that both teams had confidence and would not back down and they both were having fun. Is that not what High school football is all about? My bet is if GHS and FHS face again this year the same thing will happen. There is nothing wrong with pre game fun and excitement. Everyone gets too serious over petty little things. These are 15-18 year old kids having fun playing a game they love and being excited about it.
  11. That is a ritual that has been going on for years. If you would analyze the video or actually go to a game and see it in person you would see the truth. The Devils never cross the 50yd line in fact never even approach it they are on their own side on the 45 yd line. In this game it was Carter that approached the 50yd line. It is just what the devils do to get ready for the game and lets the other team know they better be ready to play.
  12. I was in the stands and didn't see any pointing. However If you heard it I believe it and you are right should be taken up with the player in question and not another not even playing. I just think this team has a little more character than say the 2012 edition of the Devils. Talented as they were they seemed to crack with adversity where as the 2014 edition seems to stay poised. Poise is needed in the playoff's because the teams we will be facing are not BRAC teams and they will make plays on us. How we respond to it will tell us how far we will advance but I do like what I see with this team.
  13. I am a firm believer in the fact that the Champs are the favorite until beaten. Fulton has earned that the last 2 years. So does the road to Cookeville run thru Fulton absolutely it does. However since 2009 if you want to play for a 4A Gold Ball there is 1 team that you have to beat and that is Greeneville. The winner of the Fulton/Greeneville game has produced 4 State Titles in 4 years. I saw a lot of resolve with the Greene Devils vs Signal Mountain. This group of Devils do not panic or point fingers at one another. They just stick with the game plan , play hard ,and keep getting after the opponent. In my opinion that is what it will take to beat Fulton. Playoff season is 1 week away and it is going to be a wild and crazy ride in the East. Go Greene Devils!
  14. Greene Devils DE # 30 is Jarred Adams.
  15. You know very little. I like most parents with kids at GHS that live in the county choose at an early age (elementary school) to send our kids to Greeneville City Schools. That is way before any of these kids are even known by the football staff at GHS. Not being a Greeneville/Greene county native I was told that the city schools were the better schools academically. I made my mind up where I wanted my son to go based on the academics and after visiting all the County schools while my son was playing youth sports (7-8 years old). I noticed the difference in the quality of the facilities. I decided to enroll my son in the 4th grade. Did I know at the time he would be a starter at GHS as a Jr? No. Did the current coach or staff know about him? NO! Their are way more than 3 starters that are and have been tuition students in Greeneville City Schools for years before they were considered football players. What you do not understand is the tuition students have to maintain higher academic eligibility standards in order to stay a tuition student. Because it is not their right but a privilege to attend Greeneville City Schools.
  16. Lets see what you know. Whats the #'s (No Names)of the players that should be playing for other teams?
  17. Maybe you do care since you chimed in bro. If's and butt's were candies and nuts.. you know the rest. Fair weather fan. Probably one of those that stayed home in the 1st round because of the opponent and it was cold outside. Well guess what the players noticed that the stands were empty and they were disappointed.
  18. The people that are bashing Coach Ballard are clueless and fair weather Fans!!! Caine Ballard Era (5 years). 11-4 State Runner-up, 15-0 State Champion, 14-1 State Champion, 8-4 2nd Round Playoffs, 12-1 Quarter Finals. 60-10 (0.857 win%). The last 4 years 1 loss at home on a last second FG. 1 Silver ball, 2 Gold Balls, Made the Playoff's 5 straight years, ranked as one of the top 4A teams every year. All that and someone has the mindset that he is not a good Coach. Go examine the records on www.greenevillefootball.com and see if you can find a 5 year span that can even come close to comparing to the last 5 years. Ask any of the teams in the state that have never made the playoff's or never won a playoff game if they would like to have a 5 year run like Greeneville. I hate to say this but Greeneville fans have become spoiled by the teams success the last 5 years. These Coaches put in more time than anyone could imagine. They spend hours away from their families to coach someone else's kids. My son plays for Greeneville and I as a parent of a player would not want my son playing for any other coach or coaching staff!!!! I look forward to my son's Sr. season next year and expect us to be one of the top 4A teams again next year. Just my 2 cent's on the coach bashing.
  19. The nice thing about the power ranking you always know where you stand in the rankings. I follow a team up in WV and if they win next Friday they are in the playoff's with a ranking of somewhere between 13-16 depending on their defeated opponents next Friday. They know if they win their game next Friday they are in. No guess work or surprises next Saturday morning. I just see this system as a fix for the current TSSAA system that has so many holes in it that is utterly ridiculous. The TSSAA system allows for the following scenario to be possible. If Greeneville at 13-0 advances to the semi-final round and Signal Mtn at 10-3 advances to the semi-final round. Greeneville the quad 1 #2 seed would have to travel to Signal Mtn the quad 2 #1 seed. Even though Greeneville would be undefeated and already beat a Signal Mnt team with 3 losses by 27 pts in week 9. That is how messed up this system is and under a power ranking system this would never happen. An undefeated team should never have to go on the road and play a team that they beat head to head and a team that has 3 losses but it happens every year in this z system.
  20. This is one of the fairest systems in high school football. The state of West Virginia WVSSAC uses a simple power ranking that rewards teams that have to play up a class and teams that schedule strong teams. Here is their system in a nut shell very easy. 1) For each win you have over a Class AAA team (5a & 6a) you get 12 points 2) For each win over a Class AA (3a &4a) team you get 9 points 3) For each win over a Class A (1a & 2a) team you get 6 points 4) 1 bonus point for each win of your defeated opponents 5) divide the point total by the # of games played The top 16 in power ranking make the playoffs each year. With #1 playing #16 , #2 playing 15 and so on. Higher seed hosts. This could easily be adapted for TN just split the state into 2 equal halves east and west and rank the teams in each half and the top 16 teams in the east and top 16 in the west make the playoffs. under this systems if you get wins over higher class and teams that have more wins your power ranking reflects it. I did the numbers this week in 4a and under a this system. 4A would be 1) Greeneville 2) Sullivan South 3)Fulton 4) Carter. instead of Fulton, Carter, Sullivan South, Greeneville
  21. It is all good now Joe Case issued a lame @$$ apology today via letter to the editor at the Greeneville Sun.
  22. Yes, But Fulton is the best team in the state, Nothing works against them. On the serious side it is good that we have a QB that can stand the heat and spread the ball around. Having Great WR's also helps too.
  23. Of course you have to know football is a game of numbers. Teams are loading the box with 7-8 every play to stop the run. More defenders than we have blockers so the run game suffers. You combat that with screens, shuttle passes and passing vertical. That is why we have been more pass oriented the last 3 games. Take what the defense gives you.
