  1. PLENTY of room for that, OnB! Just don't lean that Harley too far on gravel-covered blacktop!
  2. To anyone planning to attend tonight's game, be prepared for a change in parking. You now enter the field from Morganton Road, over by the new high school. The old entrance will be closed. Also, there is construction going on next to the field, and a construction trailer sits on the main road into the parking lot, so I expect some congestion before game time. The old parking area is now "pay only," so if you want to park for free, you'll need to park in the new high school parking lot and walk over to the field. If you do park in the new high school lot, you'll at least avoid the construction. Soon, the new field house with public restrooms will be complete, but not for tonight's game. So plan accordingly
  3. Just curious why this thread is under Class AA. Shouldn't this be down in the basement with us lowly Class A types? Don't go thinking you're too good for us Tellico and Grace
  4. Speed is definitely a help, and this team has a fair amount of it. One of our young DBs went down against GP Friday. Not sure yet what the extent of the injury is. He's a good player and will be missed if he has to go out for a while. Our depth is razor thin, so it will be week to week throughout the season. But I think these boys are beginning to believe this could be a good year. They've got a solid senior class. They're athletic yes, but they're also disciplined and they want to win.
  5. Meigs County is a question mark to me. I thought they would beat Sweetwater based on the reports I was reading on this site. You mean I can't take the stuff I read on here to be absolutely accurate? Now what?
  6. Well, the boys are on their way to Ober now, so probably too late for any trickery. Here's hoping for an injury-free affair for all involved.
  7. (SHHH! OnB!) That's right, he's a receiver. GP needs to drop back into coverage to stop him.
  8. Hate to disagree with you logcabinman, but I do. My son played in the Sequoyah Conference, and in my opinion, the age limit thing is set up for a good reason. Not suggesting you are attempting to cheat the system, but you can bet other people certainly would if they could. At the youth level, age limits are appropriate. Whether you hold your kid back to gain athletic advantage, or whether a kid flunks one, two or more times, you have to take age and maturity into consideration if you want a level playing field. I'm always blown away by the number of parents who have a middle-school aged kid, who happens to have hit his growth spurt a year or two faster than his friends. That same kid will usually dominate in football and basketball. Next thing you know, parents are boasting about future college plans, how unstoppable the kid is, etc. But, just about as often, his friends catch up with him. They hit their growth spurt later, but later finally arrives, and that kid that used to be the bruiser? He's now just another kid on the team. It happens all the time.
  9. Ha! Sorry. When I posted that, somehow I didn't see this thread had two pages, so I just repeated what you said. So if we're that close together, I guess everyone else can take our report to the bank!
  10. The GB vs SW game was just all-around sloppy, at least in the first half. And yes, it was a dogfight through that first half, with both teams trading punches. GB outlasted Sweetwater in the second half, and had some outstanding special teams play--kickoff, kick return, and punt teams really did well. GB defense also stepped up on second half, fixed some first half mistakes, and took advantage of two picks, one for a pick-six. SW QB seemed to be forcing things late, and didn't have his targets getting open. If Meigs is as improved as I've heard, I would take the Tigers in this matchup, especially at home.
  11. I didn't hear that, but neither did #25, so it didn't get in his head!
  12. Other than the drive to GP, I'm looking forward to everything about this game. GP's facilities are pretty amazing. Two new turf fields sitting side by side, and one of the best natural "bowl" venues in East Tennessee. GB's depth will be the biggest concern, especially against a program like GP that is much bigger. The turf may actually favor GB in this one. It makes a fast team faster. It was a close contest last year, but I'm still not sure how to read this 2014 version of the Cherokees. They have a chance to be special, but they're hanging by a thread when it comes to depth. GB has not had a whole lot of success with GP over the years. Especially at their house. I predict a good game (less than 10 pt spread), but I can't predict a winner.
  13. #55 should be back for GP this week. He will definitely help. Proud of our kids for hanging tough in the heat and humidity. GB had the energy advantage by the end of the game. If they stay healthy, and stay conditioned, could be a good season.
  14. Yes, indeed. GB's working on kinks themselves. Next week should give us a clearer picture.
  15. Got to give you credit for a pretty good prediction. Sounds like the Blue Devils might be for real this year.
  16. I just had a feeling they might, LOL. Go Devils! See you tonight, OnB.
  17. I don't believe even Grace can fill their old QB's shoes. He was a pretty special player at this level, or at any level. But, I still think Grace will be nearly unbeatable by anyone in the district.
  18. Well I hope they are making a comeback. Those are tough scrimmage matchups. Good luck to the Blue Devils, except for one particular Friday night.
  19. Don't take offense to this, but I would be surprised by that score. I would not be surprised by a Harriman win, but I would by that kind of margin. Even against Hancock County, that would get some attention from the rest of the district.
  20. Yes they do, I just hope it doesn't distract them. Preening for the camera won't win many games. I think most of them are mature enough to handle it. But, I think it's a great opportunity for the GB program to get positive recognition, just wish it wasn't Week 0.
  21. Best dang cheeseburgers around. That's the fact.
  22. Well I like your enthusiasm! Getting Dyer back will be a BIG help. Breeden was also out for the jamboree. I have not yet heard if he will be back for Sweetwater. TL will also be back, so our offense should be back to normal. Defensively, I don't think Sweetwater will bring the size that WB had, and having TL back at end will definitely help. As you said, if we can stay healthy, we can compete. That takes a little luck. Sweetwater will be hungry. It's at their place. We handled them pretty well last year. It's the season opener. I expect emotions to be flying high. They've also got a good QB, an athlete this Greenback team has faced since they were all about 8 years old. So there's a little history between these teams too. Sweetwater had Greenback's number through much of the youth years, but that was usually in the playoffs after both teams turned in very solid seasons. In the end, I think GB will get it done. If the Cherokees can find some early success, they might cruise. But I expect the Wildcats to put up a fight.
  23. Heard the waves beat Walker Valley. That true?
  24. I can't answer that, Roy. I try not to look directly into the faces of the opposing coaches. It's like looking into the sun.
  25. GB looked good at times and looked sloppy at times. Very effective ground game with three RBs sharing the load and early on the offensive line was making holes. Halfway through we hit a wall for a while. I don't know if it was fatigue, or substitutions or what, but we struggled to move the ball. Later on we found some passing success and that loosened Polk County up quite a bit. If we can build confidence in our downfield passing attack, we could be a real threat. That and stay healthy. We do those two things and this team will make some noise. Polk County did not look like their usual. Not as big, and clearly young. They'll be good in a year or so, but I think this year they might struggle a bit in their district. Just not a ton of experience. They might grow up fast and get a lot better as the season goes on.
