  1. That's a very good point...Oakland had a TON to replace, and I am honestly surprised with how well they have reloaded. I didn't expect them to be at 13-0 again with a very real chance to run the table. That's a credit to Creasy and his staff (which is one of the best in the entire state). There are a couple of people at Oakland that aren't my favorites, but I love Kevin Creasy and respect the heck out of him. However, it was also Maryville's second game without the best coach in the history of TN HS football, and they were in adjustment period as well. Also, I don't think it's silly to state that the absence (or lack thereof) of a D1 QB would be a deciding factor in a very close game between two evenly matched teams.
  2. Everyone in the Mid-State that I've talked to is taking Oakland in this one, and I'm not sure why. Maryville was missing their QB and some key players on defense and still almost beat Oakland in the first meeting this year. Oakland has been playing lights out, but Maryville is still Maryville. It would be an upset for sure if the Patriots leave East TN with a victory on Friday night. I've said all along that this Oakland team is a year away, and I think that holds true this week. Maryville 24 Oakland 21
  3. Beech is tough...but after seeing them twice this year in person, I’m not convinced that they’ll be able to line up with Catholic for 4 quarters and come out on top. They don’t have the size or the athleticism, IMO...but that’s not a knock on Beech, becuase no one in 5A can hold a candle to them. If KC loses in the next two weeks, they’ll have no one to blame but themselves.
  4. Here are my picks for Week 4 Winners in case anyone wants to play...Odds are, you'll win South Pittsburg Cornersville Tyner Union City Alcoa Pearl Cohn Greeneville Haywood Knoxville Catholic Beech Maryville Cane Ridge
  5. Your assessment of Hillsboro seems a little off.
  6. Props to Summit. They made this a game when I didn't expect them to at all. Heck of a game by the Spartans, you guys should be proud
  7. Well, my picks were horrible...I should NOT quit my day job
  8. That's even better news!! I love *ALL* Govs teams, so I should have phrased that more accurately. There literally isn't a better man than Kevin Windle in HS sports. Last year's team was good and I thought they had the potential to make a nice tourney run. I'm glad that this year's squad has the same chance. Also, it doesn't get much publicity...but the WB girls wrestling team is great and could seriously contend for WB's first team state title.
  9. I would be the biggest Seymour fan in the world then! Love Coach Meadows.
  10. Is Mr. Red Shoes still around at Maryville? I’m surprised he didn’t have control of the sideline situation. He seemed to think he had control of everything
  11. The game will be at Maryville It will be the 4th straight Oakland vs. Maryville semifinal game. What used to be Rutherford County vs. Maryville after Thanksgiving has turned into Oakland vs. Maryville
  12. Got bored today and decided to try and pick the winners for each of the games tonight in all classes. It'll be interesting to see how stupid I am at around 11:00 PM tonight Place your picks below and we'll see who has the best week of predictions! My Winners for Week 3: Davidson Academy Nashville Christian Christ Presbyterian Lausanne Brentwood Academy MBA Coalfield South Pittsburg Lake County Huntingdon Meigs County Marion County Peabody Wavery Alcoa Red Bank Pearl Cohn Covington Greeneville Marshall County Haywood Jackson South Side South Doyle Knoxville Catholic Beech Henry County Maryville Oakland Cane Ridge Whitehaven
  13. Cookeville better give this one all they have...I don’t think anyone will be able to touch Oakland next year
  14. I don’t know much about Bradley’s staff, but on the two most successful teams that I’ve been a part of...our coaching staff said a combined ZERO curse words. You don’t have to be belligerent to win
  15. It’s right off Columbia Pike in Spring Hill, only about 3 miles from Summit HS. Their bacon cheeseburger and fries are delicious.
  16. The boards would be no fun if everyone used coach speak. “Oh, Summit has a chance and Beech has to play their best game.” That’s just not true. Beech is by far the better football team and it’s ok to say that. The best thing about this game would be going to Hwy 55 for a burger and fries beforehand. I’ll gladly eat my words if I’m wrong.
  17. Hope the best for Seymour. One of my favorite coaches of all-time is on staff there
  18. Fun, random fact: Today is the 10th anniversary to the date of when the best WB team ever took off the pads for the last time. In the 10 seasons following 2007, WB has won just 24 games combined. which comes out to an average of 2.4 wins per year. Historically, WB's truly competitive teams appear after long droughts, so we have to savor the "special" seasons when they come around. 1991, 1999, and 2007 are the only teams (in my opinion) to fit that criteria. The previous trend was 8 seasons between each great team, but we're still waiting on the next one. Hopefully it won't be too much longer. Until then, I'll be re-watching the 2007 highlight video and supporting our excellent softball and girls basketball teams. Go Govs!!
  19. No offense intended, but that doesn’t mean the parents are right, or handled things the best way...it just means their sons are blessed with athletic talent.
  20. No worries, I was just curious since I had heard a couple things about the game.
  21. As someone who attends all the games each year, I would be disappointed if I had to miss 66% of them.
  22. They have rotated the games this year to be more “fair.” 1, 3, 5 are now on Thursday, 2, 4, 6 are on Friday, and D-II are on Saturday. I think this is a horrible decision and it will result in a less than satisfactory Saturday gate (because D-II is on Saturday this year). The TSSAA will hopefully fix it once it hits them in the wallet, which it will.
  23. Agreed completely. Beech will probably win by three scores or more
