Guys...don't be surprised if he is playing at Lausanne this year. The TSSAA ruling is solely based on handbook fact. I'm sure his guardian will file a hardship. The thing that he has going for him is and everyone seems to have forgotten is...HE DIDN'T PLAY LAST YEAR and the TSSAA is sympathetic towards those situations. I know that he practiced in the Spring but he didn't play in the regular season. I also remember last year when Ricky Bowers got ejected and wasn't going to coach in the state championship game against MUS...how did that turned out? The rule says if a coach is ejected he must sit out the next game. The TSSAA changed their rule on that one....they even changed the whole rule after that incident. How's that any different?

He was the best coach in Memphis in my opinion during his time at Bartlett. He will wins championships at BA. Who are the top coaches in Memphis now?

I will promise that things will change for BA In basketball in the next 3-5 years. Ensworth is in trouble and that is no cut at Coach Bowers. He is great! Hubie Smith will win multiple title at BA...mark it down!

The days of being good in football and not basketball are over. The private schools with great resources can win in both. BA fits into this catergory. Ensworth is winning in both...with the same players. CPA is doing well in both in DI. MUS out of Memphis has the same potential in DII-AA.

Meloa, I'm not sure you realize his track record. He has won at every stop. He is a boys coach that just happens to be coaching girls right now. How many coaches do you know that have won a state championship with a boys program and a girls program? There's not a better coach in the STATE than Hubie Smith. You can ask every boys coach in Tennessee who he is and how good he is....and I bet the answers will all be positive. BA would be very lucky to get him. if not Hubie Smith...then who? Whoever they hire won't be better!

Hubie Smith should be BA's top choice! Ensworth has arguably the two best high school coaches in Tennessee. The job should be his to turn down if he wants to coach boys again.

Rumble, You are correct. What I mean is that the school determines how much to give after the family is told how much they qualify for. I know some school don't even give the amount that the family qualifies for...which is a mistake in my opinion. The family is going to take the best deal most of the time. The school with the most money (Ensworth) to give in financial aid is going to get the better athlete if the athlete can make it academically. You are correct in saying that a third party (SSS)determines how much a family qualifies for but the school decides how much of the qaulifying money is going to be given.

The financial aid qualifications work the same way at all DII schools. The school determines how much they are going to spend on financial aid. The schools with the most money can give more. A student-athlete qualifies for the same amount at any DII school that he/she applies to go to. The amount he/she receives is soley determined by the school. As far as Tippett being the best coach in Memphis...he is a great one but he also had the best players longer than anyone else did. Hubie Smith won over 400 games at Bartlett with far less talent over the same time period.

Hubie Smith is BA's answer...to their road to recovery!!! Check his track record. He was the best boys coach in Memphis for years!!! Memphis HS basketball is not too bad.
