  1. I agree with you 100 % . I am suprised at some of the things thatI have seen go on Any word on if Maryville and Ensworth were able to get their scrimmage?
  2. Reb, you are right; my agenda was stating that some private schools do try to recruit and take the best ball players away from public schools. I know of a very good football player in middle TN that was offered a diversity scholarship to go and attend that private school. He did take the schoarship offer.
  3. SS, I think all four of the semi final teams ( Maryville, Siegel, White and Haven and yes; Mt Juliet ) would give Ensworth a good game. Why do you think MJ would not? It took Whitehaven all they had to beat the Bears at Whitehaven by 6 and the MJ had a chance to win it at the end. The only other game MJ lost was to Beech; who was undefeated and won the 5AAA title; by 7.
  4. The problem with open school zone is then the issue of possible recruitment and kids having their tution paid for or no tutio at all. To what extent this happens; who knows; but we do know it probably does. As was stated in one of the first posts; it was probably set up for good reason then taken advantage of. Living in middle TN; we see private schools do all kinds of things to recruit the best players from teams. I've seen coaches from private schools show up at scrimmages of public schools wearing shirts from their private schools trying to talk with kids after the games. I honestly would like to see some of the top 6A schools play teams like Ensworth and MBA. I think any of the semi final teams from last year could have beat Ensworth.
  5. Mt Juliet will be very good in 2013. Yes; the Bears lost some very good players; but are loaded withexperience and talent and will be back again this year. Everyone will be over looking us again this year; as they did last year.
  6. Reb, I didn't acheive any goal just trying to learn. It makes no difference to me. Mt Juliet can play with any one in the state public or private. I do know that MJ would love to have a chance at playing Maryville. Hopefully we will both be there in 2013.
  7. If you can pay tuiton to go to Alcoa or Maryville; what is the difference between them and privates like Ensworth and Brentwood Academy? Other than Mayville and Alcoa's football programs are better and richer in tradition and everyone technically pays tuition at Enswoth and BA. I know Mt Juliet was hoping to get their shot at Maryville this past year for the championship. Hopefully in 2013.
  8. Reb; you were right about that. HA ! seems like the some take it personal to talk about such. I am sure it has helped some schools out in athletics.
  9. Reb, i appreciate your reply. I am not trying to stir anything up; but trying to learn. I did not know there were open zones until last year. I had lived in Mt Juliet for years then heard about them and didn't understand why or how they came about. From the responses; it looks like this topic is taboo to talk about. HA !
  10. Can some one explain to me how did open school zones come about and what the puropose is of having them ? It was always my understanding that a public school had a certain zone and those that lived in that zone attended that school. Growing up in KY; the only schools that did not have a zone were private schools.
  11. Jenkins is a great kicker We will miss him next year. I believe he is going to Michigan; but I don't know if it is on a scholarship or not. He can kick for anyone. All three are outstanding young men and any university will be fortunate to have them as a part of their program. Heard the Belhu is going to Tennessee Tech on a scholarship. It was a shame he missed half of the season with his injury. He is another outstanding young man.
  12. Pride, I do know that there are a number of shools looking a both. I have heard that SC is really pushing for Contrez and that he has had calls from the Ole' Ball Coach himslelf. Again; that is what I was told. I have heard that Louisvlle , UK , Missouri and a couple of others are interested in Hopkins. He is one heck of a ball player with an incredible work ethic and heart.
  13. Contrez McCathern from Mt Juliet was a beast. Don't know what is stats were; but I think he had to be close to 7 yards a carry. Cody Carr from Mt Juliet also had a nice game at safety.
  14. KWC what is your outlook for DaHaven next year? Who will they have back? I am trying to get an idea who the top teams in 6A will be next year.
  15. Who does Maryville have back next year? I know they have a very good back in Prevo who will be back.
  16. Lebanon won't come close to beating MJ in 2013. The freshman team was slow getting started. I think they lost their first 4 games before they learned how to win. They didn't win a game in 8th grade. Varsity pulled them aside and told them anything other than winning is not excepted at MJ. Then the world changed for them. They were a totally different team at the end of the season. MJ and Beech will battle for 9AAA title.
  17. The freshman team struggled the begininng of the season and finished strong. The sophmore's were undefeated as freshman and JV has been undefeated the last 2 years. They did lose some very good players; but they will have a very good defense this year and next and plenty of experience in the backfield this year. Many will overlook the Bears; but they will be there in the end. Lot of young talent that gained alot of experience. Have 9 players returning on D that had over 20 tackles; and that is with losing 8 starters.
  18. Who do you think will be some of the top teams in 6A next year? The last two years we have seen 3 of the same teams in the semi final games. Will White Haven, Maryville, amd Mt Juliet be back in 2013 ? White Haven loses alot of talent but always has athletes; Mt. Juliet loses several skill people; but are very deep and talented; Maryville; well they seem to just reload.
  19. Merry Christams to everyone and their families. Let us always remember the true meaning of Christmas.
  20. Danville is 2A now and I think they have been 2A for a couple of years now.
  21. He is an excellent coach. I grew up in KY and Danville always had one of the best programs in the state. KY is more known for high school football then it's high school basketball. Danville was always contending for the state title when they were not winning it. They were easily one of the top 5 programs in the state behind Trinity ( National Champions last year ) St Xavier in 6A , Highlands ( in 5A at the time; now 4 A ) and Danville in 4A.
  22. I was a told a story of a team in California that was playing an away playoff game. The game was being played in a very bad part of major city. They were deep in the playoffs and the head official was talking to the head coaches at mid field before the game. He told both coaches that he was very concerned for player and fan safety as well as the safety of his crew if the visiting team were to win the game, He also told the coaches that this has the potential to get very ugly and me and my crew are not comfortable with this at all. As some of the players are warming up gun shots are heard behind the locker rooms. I was told there were some very bad calls late in the game that went against the visiting team while they were driving for a winning score. The home team won by less than a touchdown taking over on downs inside there own teritory. Would an official intenionally make bad calls if he truley thought the safety of players, fans and he and his crew were in question?
  23. MJ will have probably the toughest schedule in school history. Non conference games with Anitoch, Centennial and Blackman. The Bears will be very good and battle Beech for 9AAA title. Defense will be very good the next two years. ( Nine players coming back on defense that had 20 or more tackles.; this with losing 8 startes on the D. ) You don't replace a McCathern or a Hopkins as players and more importantly as classy young men; but the offense will good. Loads of experience and talent in the backfield and a good O line.
  24. This is a great rivalry but comes up short to the Louisville Trintinty vs Louisville St. X game. They put over 30,000 in the stands every year. It has been that way for many years.
  25. Congrads to Whitehaven ! Great season Tigers ! The MJ Bears look forward to seeing you again in the near future !
