  1. If Vikes stay with power game (habd it to Mclilly james and watson), they control the game and win by 7!
  2. Great job Dresden! I am so glad that our coaches have figured out that the power game is how We MUST win. Anyone that has watched Humboldt for the past 10 years knows this. Ride McLilly Watson and James to state. Iknow that Mclilly has been offered scholarships. What about James?
  3. Glad to see some of the Viking players are now commenting! KingJuggerNaut, ZeBo101, and 1960....hope you back it up!!!
  4. Wow! You guys have been busy. Just got back from delivery in texas. Left Saturday morning, so I did not get to comment on Friday's game. Been to almost all Humboldt games since I moved to Humboldt 10 years ago (Missed a few because I drive a truck). I have been critical of the turnovers and sloppy play. Some of you commented that Coach Reid will "open it up" and throw the ball more. The power I is the BEST option he has. He has three phenomenal players back there that can all score. Running it controls the clock and keeps the defense off the field. Humboldt can still throw from under center. Anybody that has watched Montague for the past several years knows that he best when rolling and throwing on the run. Then you can jump back to spread for a change of pace. There are several people that sit in the stands right above me that complain that the offense if "boring" when the team is eating the clock and making 1st downs. It is almost like they would rather be flashy and lose than have a smart game plan. I thought the coaching staff had a great plan Friday night. No team in the decade that I have been following Humboldt football has been successful unless they could line up and pound the other team when they needed to. This was true when adrian donald, shamari johnson, EJ epperson and keith wardlow were here. It was true when quan campbell, KJ montague and jason barker were here. It was true when ryeon wedley, david wilson and CC Moody were here. And it is true now. I could be wrong. It could be because I was on those JCM teams in the 70's that ran with power, but I think that you must dominate at the line to beat Dresden and Union City. GO VIKINGS! I say 28-13 Humboldt!
  5. GreenMonster has been around this program for a long time too. When the air turns cool, the gym heats up!
  6. Since Humboldt started playing LC in district play 5 or 6 years ago, LC has not won. There was a night that VERY close when Humboldt had to win in OT. I fear that tonight is the night that LC outcoaches Humboldt!
  7. First of all....what an exciting game for Humboldt and Trenton to end the season with! Great job to both teams. I would make the following observation. If Humboldt stays in the power I with Watson and James blocking for McLilly, Humboldt will win the state. Much has been made about the spread and Montague being so good, but when the team was down 21 points Friday, they reverted to the style of offense that has been run at Humboldt over the past three years and saw huge success. They just ran out of time on the comeback. Koffman is young, but a better QB than Montague. Montague should play wideout and leave McLilly in the backfield. The last time Humboldt played Lake county, it was UGLY. LC turned the ball over so many times that I lost count. With that said, Humboldt has turned the ball over in crucial situations all year. If you were a fan last year, you would know that Humboldt beat LC last year by turning and handing the ball to McLilly and running playaction passes. McLilly ran for nearly 400 yards and Agnew caught a short post and ran it for about 60 for a TD. I would love to see us stay with that style of POWER football. It eats the clock and shortens the game. Two years ago, Humboldt mixed the POWER sets with the spread and also was able to make it work. With McLilly back, we may want to have a multiple attack. I remember McLilly's brother, Wedley, Brooks and multiple others lining up in the wildcat. This is an easy way to get the ball into all of your speed guys' hands. We would then go to the power I with Wedley and Wilson blocking for Moody. It clicked. I see the same talent here. Montague went out in the 3rd quarter Friday night. The further we move into the playoffs, the more hits he will take in the spread. Cannot count on him to make every play. Just my opinion.
  8. Coach Reid is a fine coach. I have known and supported him for 20 years. My point was that you can't give him or his staff a pass when the kids are not ready to play. You and I both know that Humboldt should not lose to Halls....EVER. Junior did not have these kids ready to play after that UC loss. Zebra99 and Viking87 would crucify other coaches if it happened. Be consistant. As for not wanting to start that CRAP up again and Bland can show them...Bland is not the head coach at Trenton. Nick is the best running back we have when he is healthy. I wonder how many times he will touch the ball. I saw him in at least 15-20 plays. He touched the ball once or twice?
  9. McLilly played last Friday night! Were you at the game?
  10. Wow! It is amazing that the fans in Humboldt now are saying that the players are the problem. I cheered for the Vikings fo decades until they made the stupid decision last November. Every loss was bacause of Dan Bland. Somehow this staff gets a pass? Say what you will but the Vikings did not lose to teams like Halls under the old staff. It would have been adog fight either way against UC, but the vikings from the previous 4 years at least had special teams that worked and were TOUGH. This group is ready for bball and so is the community. I was in UC. That was the district championship and there were hardly a third of the stands filled. Check out how many "fans" show up for the hhs/uc bball game.....pitiful.
  11. Word is that the thoroughbred has been moved to receiver. The new coaching staff is installing a pass happy version of the spread. They want to distribute the ball to ALL of their horses.
  12. Did Greenfield scrimmage during the spring?
  13. Had to stop it early. A Camden player had to be flown out due to compound leg fracture. It was tied 2-2.
  14. Joe Joe Shepherd, former quarterback for HHS, is the new OC. Humboldt had two offensive coordinators in the last 5 years, Adam Yates and Brian Lane. Yates took over as head coach at Lexington Middle and was undefeated last year. Lane resigned from coaching in late April. He was only able to win 9 games with a Senior-laden team in 2011. He won only 6 games in last year's rebuild and depended heavily on the run with Nick McLilly (2200 yards). Shepherd has proven as the Freshman coach for the past 3 years that he is an offensive genius. He will throw the ball as much as he runs it. If he had been the OC the past two years, HHS would have won 2 state championships. They definitely had the defense to do it. Since QB Montague has been held back by the coaching staff, I think he will have a breakout all-state year. Montague made all of the throws in practice for the past two years and showed a great pocket presence. The head coach just obviously didn't understand the type of talent he had or was stuck in the past. Two years ago, Montague threw 13 passes against Milan and they only lost 10-0, so more passing will probably put the Vikings on top.
  15. Big Purple, the folks in Humboldt are saying that the new coaching staff will be the difference. You have not seen offense like you will see from their OC. He is the REAL DEAL!
  16. Trenton Peabody beat Jackson South Side 6-2 last Thursday in Jackson.
  17. Humboldt is LOADED with talent! I see them going undefeated and probably winning the state championship in 1A. Junior Reid will be state coach of the year in his first year at Humboldt!!
  18. So after the coaching changes, graduation and spring scrimmages.... How does this district look for 2014? Make your comments about your team!
  19. Dan Bland is not being considered.
  20. Just want to let everyone know that the boys told me that Coach Bland is going to throw them their awards banquet tonight. Shows some class to finish with the boys after what the administration has done. We wish Dan Bland the best in his next job. We will miss him in Humboldt!
  21. This really makes you wonder what the administration wants a coach to be to his players. Bland has been a real example of class everywhere he has ever been. In the Jackson Sun in the past month, we have seen coaches that have been suspended (JCM), coaches that have been for inappropriate behavior....just simply put bad examples of what we want our young people to learn and be around. If Bland led his boys by example, had a winning record and was a good teacher, what message are the humboldt administrators sending to the players? I also have heard some people in humboldt say that the administration are trying to right some wrong that has occurred. That someone in the past had promised Reid the job. I always learned you don't right a wrong by performing another one. (2 wrongs don't make a right???) I also have wondered what would have happened if the situation would have been reversed. What if Bland were hired to replace a very successful Reid? Would that have been a big deal to the community? I think it would have.
