  1. Really don't think that is what he said (although I can see how you would read that). Hall and Maroney are not going to be replaced just as Barnes and Hollingsworth were not "replaced" this year. Their leadership and play will definitely be missed. The point is that TCA is still a relatively young team with a bright future.
  2. Great game - two really good teams that played their hearts out. Packed house----nothing like high school tournament time.
  3. BTW- you said the same thing on girls post and honestly, don't understand why you keep saying everyone would be scared to come to South Memphis - guarantee you if it was there, there would be 5-1 TCA fans to BTW fans just like it was at the Scotts Hill girls game. You are the one making your place sound negative---and the only one I see doing it. Think the game will be great tomorrow night - hoping for a good clean game that is injury free and fairly ref'd.
  4. I hope there is a little more heat than there was in there tonight - about a 50 degree difference in what the Middleton group is used to being in.
  5. Hats off to Riverside girls for a hard fought game without one of their main players. Hated to walk into gym tonight and see that Lauren Jones had torn ACL - been a tough year for that young lady. Congrats to Madison and Middleton for advancing-----but as an unbiased outside observer, the ladies from Riverside definitey get the heart award tonight.
  6. I have this irritating itch----you can't quite get to it, it annoys the heck out of you, and you just want it to go away......don't know why this post reminded me of it.
  7. TCA played extremely well tonight and shot lights out. I was never really comfortable until about half way through the 3rd quarter. I got the feeling that Westwood could sting together multiple points quickly. Not sure that I agree with Intense on top 5 teams beating them - maybe on a given night, but think Westwood would have been competitive. Looking forward to Tuesday - surprised BTW only beat Adamsville by 15.
  8. Region semi's should be interesting----any of these 4 could come out as Region Champs. Riverside got hot during district.....look out for Madison this time around.
  9. Congrats to a very tough Riverside team - class act kids....good luck in Region !
  10. Ready for tonight - got my bermuda shorts and tank top on---turn up the heat baby ! TCA by 5 in a close one - Riverside scares the heck out of me.
  11. Guess there is not going to be a regional tournament (ok, I give you that one) or substate for anyone out of 14A. Been watching a lot of 15A this year - Middleton is tough and if the two sophomores put it together, they are going to be a tough out for anyone. I am not saying they will be favored, and I would probably favor Union City also but if those two meet, it will not be a gimme.
  12. TCA fans - after what I saw last night, we better not be looking past Riverside. I know we beat them pretty easily in regular season, but they are tall, shoot well, and are smart. They did not fold in a hostile environment. Before we start drawing up brackets, we have to be ready to play Tuesday night.
  13. This is all wrong on the scoreboard - shows BTW getting beat by 30.....my jaw dropped.
  14. Interesting night in the "hot house" which definitely lived up to it's reputation tonight. Riverside/Middleton game very interesting and would say an upset but Riverside is big and played well tonight. Thought TCA played best overall game of year and seem to be peaking at the right time - Adamsville always a tough game and quickly becoming a big rivalary. Lots of talking, very physical game with at least 3 T's called to try and calm down - thought TCA played through this a little better probably because of experience. Do have to ask about the Momma that came over and jumped on TCA student section after the game for being ugly to her son during the game - did not hear all the conversation but really ? (they were actually pretty calm tonight, we thought)
  15. Two points: First, I said the same exact thing about free throws - if they had been made, this would not have been an issue. Second - kids make mistakes on the floor, refs miss calls on both ends---that is all part of the game and is to be expected and you have to play through it. What is NOT expected is that the game would be decided at the scorers table---the scorekeeper decided this game in the last 6 seconds, no ifs, ands, or buts----I would REALLY like to think it was an honest error but not there yet. Could the refs and coaches gotten together, decided there was a huge error made and call off the basket and go to overtime? I don't know if that was possible by rules but seems that would have been the logical and fair thing to do. Now, having said all of that, the game did not have any bearing on the district standings and thankfully that there are tournaments to follow and this was not the last time the senior kids had to walk off the basketball court.
  16. Just curious, longtime----would you say the gripe is legitimate against the clock keeper ????
  17. The first time anyone has been able to stop W. Hall was Saturday night ---- and that was the refs. I will take Hall and Maroney into any game and like my chances any night of the week.
  18. "foul trouble" was a little questionable......hopefully a better crew will be sent to Middleton. BUT, Adamsville is going to be a tough out for any team, if they can keep their emotions in check.
  19. How about when a clock operator stops the clock on purpose to give his home team a chance to score? Happened at Adamsville tonight....visiting team scores layup to tie game with 6.8 seconds to go - clock should keep running. Clock operator stops clock as ball going through net....does not start back up until ball is inbounded after considerable at least 3-4 seconds which should at this point be about all the time left in game. Girl dribbles twice and almost sure two passes were made before layup on other end to win game. Everyone in building knows there is was an error - BUT refs say they cannot do anything, home coach says he cannot do anything.....I say both could have, but chose not to....Win for the home team Kids will get over it, parents will even get over it eventually, but you sir clock operator will always be a cheat. Enjoy your win.
  20. Our school had one of those games this year that could have won 100-10 against an alternative school. Halfway through first quarter Coach said no fast breaks - zone only and could not extend past free throw line. Second half could ONLY shoot 3 pointers which was a dream for the centers----if you make yours, you come out go to the end of the bench, sub next to coach in and everyone move up a seat......and then we feed them pizza after the game. Team told my daughter they enjoyed playing us more than anyone else....and yes, she learned a lot more than basketball that day.....and as a side note, girls played best game of the season the next game.
  21. I can tell you, they did have a dang good game - tall, physical, and played with a lot of heart. I think TCA's main problem is the number of players they have - there are a couple (Hall and Maroney) that you can say are the go to guys. After that, I can argue a case for at least 10-11 other players that need to be playing. I am not for sure that still the rotation has been figured out completely. I don't have the answer of who it should be and by no means questioning the coaching for Northcutt (think he is a great one) but if we were playing 9-10 players consistently instead of 13, 14, or sometimes 15, we would be better off. Don't ask me to name those 9 or 10 players because honestly, I could not choose either.
  22. TCA started out slow. I just can't help but think that having the recognition of the Halls just before tip off did not have a little bit to do with this. I am sure that it not only affected William, but the rest of the team as well. Not making excuses - Adamsville came out ready to play - just making an observation. Before this thread takes a nasty turn about the game - kuddos to the Adamsville crowd for the respect they showed during the presentation. The Hall's are a class act family and very much thought of not only in the TCA family but in the Jackson community as was evidenced by the attendance yesterday at the "pink out". Adamsville crowd stood, clapped and remained standing with the rest of us during the entire presentation - Thank you ! Basketball is just a game - the real fight is off the court - joining with the other prayer warriors for Melissa Hall and her fight against cancer - have a feeling cancer just met its match.
  23. So should we just cancel state tournament this year and save everyone else the trouble and expense??? Maybe just cancel rest of season and let these two teams play one game for championship ?
  24. Senior night - will be emotional for lots of reasons.....hope boys can put behind them quickly - going to be a tough game....fun night for hoops !
  25. TCA went ice cold in 3rd---think maybe 3 points and it went downhill from there. Gotta hand it to Middleton - very talented team.
