  1. I would expect you to say nothing less considering you have a son playing for the man. However, I would like for you to look at your post from a logical standpoint. It is always wise to read your post before pushing the old send/post button. Couple of things I will point out. First, of course you have to play for 4 quarters, coach speak, blah, blah, blah. We all know that. But this was totally different from the Houston County game based on my understanding of that game. In the CA-HC game we're talking about a 20-6 game in the 4th quarter, not 38-0 in the 1st half. And as I pointed out McEwen had not crossed the 50 yard line! Sounds as if the Houston County game was competitive from the beginning, the McEwen game was not even competitive in warm ups! But go back and read my post, there IS UNDER 3 MINUTES LEFT IN THE FIRST HALF WITH McEWEN TRYING TO RUN OUT THE CLOCK WITH THE SCORE 38-0 AND COACH HOOD CALLS A TIMEOUT TO STOP THE CLOCK TO TRY TO GET THE BALL BACK. THEN WITH ABOUT 10 SECONDS LEFT HE CALLS TIMEOUT TO SET UP A FINAL PLAY and throws a bomb which scores to make it 45-0 at half. Secondly, "McEwen is a dangerous team that can put up some points and make a game out of it anytime." has no one ever said this year! Except you in defending Coach Hood. So your point about the continuous clock is incorrect because it was already 38-0 when he calls timeouts and tries to light up McEwen even more. Furthermore, I'm not whining and complaining because I was just there watching a game and making observations. I have not seen any McEwen people whining and complaining on this thread. I was simply pointing out that I thought it was pretty classless. Again as a CA supporter and parent I expect you to support Coach Hood but being a good coach and making your players believe, etc., etc. is not equivalent to having class. Kicking a team that is obviously not competitive on a particular night and running up the score is not class. I'm all about playing within the rules and winning blah blah blah. If Coach Hood and his staff say we are going to score as much and as often as we can without regard to how bad we beat anybody then that is perfectly within the rules. But don't defend that attitude as being one of class. I have seen CA be on the other side of those games and remember what goes around comes around long after coach for hire goes on to the next destination. But this is all just my opinion. Good luck to everyone this Friday night.
  2. Went to watch CA last night at McEwen because I wanted to see how good they really were. Pretty good team and Coach Hood is a good football coach. However, he has very little class and it reflected bad on his program. They jumped on McEwen early and never let up which I don't have a problem with. McEwen I do not believe crossed the 50 in the first half, if they did it was barely. But the worst part came with CA up 38-0 with under 3 minutes in the 1st half. McEwen has the ball and is just running it to get to the half. On 3rd down Coach Hood calls time out trying to get the ball back. This is after the clock judge had let about 10 seconds run off with about 5 minutes left and CA called a timeout to complain about the 10 seconds and asked for time to be put back on the clock. Once CA got the ball back late after McEwen punted they are throwing it and obviously trying to score. CA calls timeout again with under 10 seconds left and throws a deep pattern to score as time runs off to go up 45-0 at half. This would not have been a problem if the subs were in but the starters were still in slinging it. All this also after I was standing on the CA sideline, CA up 30 something to 0, and I hear Coach Hood say we are going to score as a many as we can as often as we can and not call the dogs off. Not very classy for a coaching staff on a night when they were clearly the better team. It was bad enough that in the 2nd half I was in the press box and I heard the Clarksville radio station announcer tell the McEwen folks ... guys I'm sorry I just do the radio I'm not affiliated with the school or football program. Again, Coach Hood is a good football coach but didn't show me much else last night. That having been said they'll have a tough 2nd round match against a team that is playing very good right now, NCS, who has a very good coach and team as well. I am o course assuming NCS beats McEwen in the first round next week. After that I think 10A will struggle if they play anyone but their own district. 10A is as weak as it has been in sometime.
  3. Are you serious! Bottom maybe improved a bit but this district at the top is as weak as I have ever seen it. They will compete well in their own quadrant but once they have to face the other quadrants it will be ugly!
  4. Not necessarily. Right now 3 wins is in. 3 wins could very easily make the playoffs, unfortunately, because they take the top 24 and the final 2 spots right now are in with 3 wins. So it will totally depend on who wins and loses Friday in the lower 1/2 of 1A. 3 wins could very easily get in the playoffs.
  5. The 3 largest schools in A (football 2A) will be private schools. Here are Goodpastures results in AA (3A football) during this classification when they played up: 2013 Volleyball in finals 2012 Baseball Champions 2012 Softball Runner-Up 2011 Volleyball Runner-Up 2011 Softball Champions 2010 Football Runner-Up 2009 Softball Runner-Up 2008 Softball Champions 2008 Baseball Champions 2007 Baseball Champions 2007 Softball Champions 2007 Football Runner- Up 2006 Softball Champions 2006 Boys Golf Team Runner-Up 2006 Girls Golf Champions By my count that's 8 Team Championships in this classification period. There were also individual state championships I didn't include. Prior to that they were 2A in football and A in others and they won many championships. They, along with Boyd Buchanan, will dominate A in those sports and compete very very well in 2A football. A schools, mostly rural schools, will have little chance against them. Not sure why they would not want to play up other than they will rack up many many more gold balls in the next classification period.
  6. You obviously don't talk to any public school coaches and players. They are extremely agitated by the news. It is very very difficult for small rural schools to compete with the privates in volleyball. I talked with multiple VB coaches today and they're not pleased. They just don't spend as much time on here as footballers. I would say 90% believe there should be a total split.
  7. You boys counting your chickens before they hatch? JB still has 2 games left in the regular season and if both of those teams bring their A games, they could be tough. Just saying
  8. public schooler my whole life here in TN stratohacker, but I think you are right....bunch of whiners in public school ranks!
  9. McEwen lost a lot. However, the twins graduated 2 years ago. That having been said they lost 4 of 5 starters. But Coach Ross always coaches his kids up and they will be very competitive. HC should be very competitive as they have most everyone back and a new coach. Clarksville Academy will be about the same, as will ER. WHH lost a lot but somehow seem to always have decent talent despite their #### of a coach. Would suspect 10A is wide open with whichever young group gels the quickest to have the best chance.
  10. McEwen lost 4 of 5 starters so I doubt they would be favored to be back to the Glass House. Some good talent but got a lot of growing up to do before they can compete at that level. The one thing McEwen does have is Coach Phil Ross who will get them ready and coach 'em right.
  11. Baker is pretty good shortstop but not even close to caliber of Sheffield or especially Dale Burdick. Burdick committed to Mississippi State but may well skip college and get drafted. By far the best shortstop in Middle TN if not the State. No knock on Baker, Burdick is just that good.
  12. Although MC is on the road I think they have the best chance for 11-AA. Camden gets the home field advantage but Spring Hill is tough. 12-AA has been really good last few years with some good teams and I'm not sure extra days have hurt 11-AA because D12 has just been good. Good luck to D11!
  13. I couldn't care less who wins the game and do not WANT anything to happen. However, according to the schedule (for both teams I might add)it was @ Heritage. If that is accurate, which I assume it was because the schedules say @ Heritage and that is what I based my post on, then it would revert back to the last completed inning. Which had Heritage leading at the end of 5. I don't just randomly post, I look things up before doing so. You are correct if Harpeth is the home team. But again the schedule says @ Heritage and that would give them the win. Makes no difference to me either way.
  14. Heritage would get the win because they were up after 5. If you check each teams schedule it now gives Heritage the win.
  15. That's as bad as Harpeth High here in Middle Tennessee putting 38 on an undermanned Cheatham Co team! (Who just so happens to be their cross county, district rival)
  16. Thoughts & prayers go out to the Gant family and the Riverside community.
  17. If the umpires fail to declare an infield fly, the batter is out. The out is determined by the rule and not by an umpire’s call or lack thereof. The rest of the play would then stand unless a double play occurs. The umpires would then use their authority to rectify the situation NFHS 10-2-3g, NCAA 3-6b, MLB 9.01c). Although these umps screwed the pooch, they got the call right. Whether they called the infield fly or not it is still an infield fly and the batter is out. The runner @ 2nd advanced at this own risk and it is not a force. Therefore, unless he was tagged he was safe. Again, umpires messed it up but got it right. I know this rule fairly well because it happened to me in a middle school game. After a lengthy heated discussion we played on and I researched later because I knew the umps we were wrong. To my surprise they were not, I was. Can you say eat crow. Don't think it's the right call but it is.
  18. CarolinaCrazy, That's exactly how open enrollment works everywhere. You start 9th grade at the high school of your choosing. And you can go to any school in any county. As long as that county allows out of county students/open enrollment. After that you become subject to the transfer rules.
  19. CommanderMan, You are exactly right. I have been trying to make this point on the other CPA thread for days. Many counties have open zone/enrollment and get children from other counties at a fraction of the costs. As I mentioned on that thread, private school may not always be an option in some rural areas but a neighboring county may be and although academics might not be that much better, if at all, their athletics may be way better. For example, in baseball in the Knoxville area, why would anyone with a child who is a stud baseball player not want to play at Farragut? Or football at Maryville or Alcoa? And those out of county fees are way cheaper than a private school education. But I think people put blinders on and don't want to think all the things that happen at private schools also happens in some areas at public schools. To be fair that issue would have to be addressed as well but probably won't. I think the TSSAA may address the issue because of the CPA-FCS issue this year. Too much domination by the privates for some people's likings. Especially if FCS wins state in baseball, which they have a great chance to do if they can get past Gant and Riverside!
  20. You do realize You shot 57% from the line for the game and 62.5% in the second half ( TSSAA STATS). That's not great but way better than 40%! And if anyone complains about the officiating it should be McEwen, though they were awful both ways. But the foul at the end of the half was the worst call ever and I think extremely big even though it only resulted in a 1 pt lead. I think it was big for momentum.
  21. Did you are the same game McEwen shot less than 60% from the line as well. If they shoot free throws Cloudland never gets close enough. It kills you papa tiger to even try to congratulate McEwen although the backhanded congrats was your attempt. McEwen held on but that's all you have to do. Congrats to Cloudland on hanging tough.
  22. They may see one, but I will promise you Cloudland will be seeing RED all day long! (Whoops not really because McEwen should be wearing white as the home team. But you know what I mean!)
