This game last year was the turning point for Fayetteville's season in my opinion.

I attended this game last year.  It was my 1st trip ever to Frog Bottom.

City was up 14-0 and was driving with their first possession of the 2nd half.   Had the ball 1st and goal. Then on 2nd and goal a City player was suplexed. So City responded.  And after City players left the 'bench' area and the white hat stepped off the yardage it was 3rd and 62.   Say what?  Yes, it was 3rd and 62.  False start next play made it 3rd & 67.

Anyway,  City held on for a 14-7 crazy hard fought victory and wrapped up the region championship.

The next game City was minus 4-5 key players and lost to Gordonsville by 7.

I brought all this up to state an opinion of mine that I've been wanting to make for a little while.  This game last year was the turning point for Fayetteville.  Yes, they lost composure and had several ejected.  But they held on and pulled out the victory.

Since that game they have played better assignment football,  more disciplined and are better prepared.

Anyway,  good luck to both teams.  I'd like to attend but I'm headed to GA Friday.

I remember seeing you (or rather someone who I thought was you) on the CV Facebook stream of the game.  They/you  were in front of the camera, and on their phone on each play.  Could have sworn they had a backpack w/ a skull and crossbones on it.

I agree with you that the CV game was a milestone point for our program, and even though we had more players suspended for the following week, we still managed to keep focused and move past that to accomplish a successful season.  Our kids still get emotional and make mistakes/penalties that leave us folks in the stands and in these forums shaking our heads, but for the most part they seem to be more in control.  One game at a time, and our time is Friday in Frog-bottom.  "One ring to rule them all"

I remember watching that from last years game.  That was vicious lol, and bad timing.  Here the way I see this game going.  If FC can score every time they have the ball,  then it shouldn’t be a problem.  I don’t expect a blowout, especially if CV executes well their style of game play. Methodically moving the ball down the field. My guy says:

    FC - 34

    CV - 22

@PiRaTe._.Mike, I'll be happy with a W, no matter what the spread is.  It's just better when you can brag a little after the fact. But if CV puts 22 on us, it'll be because our fourth string couldn't tie their cleats or find the field.

Maybe I was just thinking out loud. I know they want a shot at Peabody but McKenzie is the real deal. I will gladly eat my crow if I’m wrong

I can dig it, but realistically, to get to Peabody, you have to go through Mackenzie, and to get to Mackenzie, we have to make it past the first two rounds. One game at a time, starting on Friday. Peabody doesn't exist (saying that fascetiously).

McKenzie was the second best 2A team in the state last year and had Peabody on the walking plank late in the 4th very late I might add. They returned a ton of players. You would think some posters would educate themselves before posting. Maybe they are educated on McKenzie and think they don’t have anything! Who knows? Boy are they in for a rude awakening :popcorneater:

City is on another level compared to Cornersville, this year.  It may be a tough region game, much like Moore County, but the end should be the same. Fayetteville is better that Clay Co, in my opinion, and Clay took them to the woodshed.   I just hope we can start hot and take homefield advantage away. The Tigers need to assert dominance over this rival from the opening kick.

You may be right.  Every game in this region is going to be tough, there are no show up and get the "W" games--you have to work for it.  As for taking the home field advantage away, yeah, get a two or three TD lead and the crowd goes comatose.  Only wish the music guy would.

Oh no you don't!  Don't stick us with that extra baggage putting City up there with Peabody @PeabodyPride.  Let ya'll be the ones with the bullseye on their backs.  I'd say we're a strong #3.

Faye has a swagger about them.  You guys are big, strong, and fast.  You don’t rush things, you just execute as needed.  That says a lot about your coaching staff.  You should roll in this one.  Nothing fancy, just take care of business.  Good luck.

Thanks for the kind words @PiRaTe._.MiKe. We also seem to be able to fill in the gaps when players are out, and to date haven't skipped a beat.  I'm sure Coach Morson and staff are waiting on that day when all the players are actually on the field and dressed to play!  I am glad that we've been in a position to allow our young ones some playing time.  Reminds me of another Black and Orange team we know!

You guys were the better team but it was an 8pt game with 5 minutes left and LC was on the Fayetteville 38 and had a holding call that ended the drive. Fayetteville did what all good teams do and went down and scored to make it a 14 point game. Fayetteville was the better team but wasn't just overwhelming better. I agree the west will be brutal the next two years at least. Good luck to the Tigers this season.

Thanks '68, I will go with you on that.  Overwhelming is on another level we're trying to reach.  Historically, we played up to (or down to) our competition.  Here recently, we've been kind of  successful no matter what the level we've faced.  I would even throw it out there that the West will keep the Gold Ball for the next three years.  Has that ever happened?  A five year stretch?

Fayetteville loses 11 seniors which alot of them start. Fayetteville was a good team last year but wasn't head and shoulders better than LC last year. LC will be fine. I happen to think LC, Trenton, McKenzie and Fayetteville will all be very good in 2022. Right now plenty of football left in this season.

Actually we graduate nine at the end of the year.   And,   a    lot     of them do start, but if you say we weren't "head and shoulders" better than Lake C. last year, we were at least 14 points better.  There are so many potentially great teams in the West, it'll be a matter of survival of the fittest to get to Chattanooga.

Fayetteville looks to be the better team but also Upperman has stepped up and made some big plays both offensively and defensively.

Even Steven game just as the score indicates.

Fayetteville has committed a few penalties whereas last few games not so much.  Of course it's better competition.

The team that avoids the crucial mistake will win this one.  That crucial mistake may be minor but in a game this close it could spell doom.

    100% accurate. As always.
