  1. Huntland may be the only team that can give Wayne County a little bit of a scare but either way, Perry County played Wayne County on December 12th and they could run the tables to the state title. Very balanced, great defense, great post player and shooters galore. The Lady Vikings will get the best from McKenzie but these girls won't give up. PC did an excellent job controlling the tempo.
  2. It's totally fine. It was a great game the girls executed their game plan. They have been written off by alot of people all year because of their schedule but they opened some eyes tonight. Houston County is a great team and hate anyone had to lose. The Lady Vikings should get some more respect from the outside now but I think they like being under the radar.
  3. Agreed. Last second shot at Riverside is the reason why they lost that one and they had Scotts Hill beat but did not shoot the ball well. Even if they don't beat Houston County, I just hope its a good game because all five starters and subs come back next year. They don't lose any talent.
  4. Anybody can beat anyone at any time. Yes they are in a terrible District. They didn't give up more then 35 in most games. However, they have played better then last year with the same type of schedule. Do I think they can beat McKenzie or Houston County? Which in this case it would be Houston County, it would be tough but nothing is impossible especially if their MVP who averages 18 points, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks a game has a good night and their guards continue to shoot above 35% from three. They are a confident group. Flashback: In 2017, They were 17-15 going into their substate game with #4 Forrest. They lost by 30 each time they played Forrest. But their stud guard who had 2,000 career points had 44 that night and they beat a team that was a State championship favorite on their home court. However, times change but they can beat them but it will be a tough game but that's why we play the game. By the Way, the game against West Carroll and Bruceton at home, they were without their MVP and a starting forward. This team is alot better then what people give them credit.
  5. It's looking like the Region title game will be between either McKenzie and Houston County or can Perry County get an upset over Houston County? Yes PC has not played too many good teams but played with a really good Riverside team losing by 9 and then 2 points. Then led the whole time against McEwen but fell by 9 and then lost in a christmas tournament. These girls had to beat who they played and they did that, even the last two games against West Carroll and Bruceton (both at home) without their leading scorer and District MVP. PC lost by 9 to Houston County last year but turnovers and missed layups were the reason they couldn't win. This team has gotten better and seem like they are looking to get a couple of upsets. However, McKenzie and Houston County are obviously the favorites. Should be fun next week
  6. Should be a lot of fun! Not a big fan of the whole week off before the next game but everyone has to deal with it. District 11A is already used to the floor and the parameters of Bethel's gym. This is a big advantage for McKenzie and Houston County. We'll see how things go but Perry County will have their hands full with Big Sandy on the boys side. They are playing better and the Vikings were up by 27 pts on McEwen back in December but they made it close late because PC's starters came out and McEwen didn't sub so a nine point win doesn't make the game look like it really was. If PC can get by Big Sandy then more then likely they will face #6 McKenzie at Bethel. A rematch of last years Region Semi's. Frank Hughes is in the drivers seat. Should beat McEwen and then they'll play Houston County. Hopefully it will be fun but a long drive for us folks from Linden.
  7. Girls Thursday: Consolation game: Clarksburg vs. West Carroll (6:00 p.m.) Thursday: Championship game: Bruceton vs. Perry County (7:30 p.m.) Boys Consolation game: Bruceton vs. West Carroll (6:00 p.m.) Championships game: Perry County vs. Frank Hughes (7:30 p.m.)
  8. The Perry County, Frank Hughes game will be a fun one. In the first game down in Clifton, PC did not shoot the ball well due to the defense of Frank Hughes. FH did a great job making PC turn it over 22 times and they cruised to a 53-46 win. In Linden, PC got up 10 most of the game but the Lions uncharacteristically missed some layups and open shots that they normally make and PC won 54-51. Dicus is a hoss and he is a gamechanger as is the point guard Lineberry. If Perry County can get stops, knock down free throws and limit turnovers, they can win but it's going to be a tall task because this Frank Hughes team is very good.
  9. I totally agree! I will be in the pressbox doing the play by play for Perry County. We stream and go on air. We're on Facebook at 101.3 WOPC and on YouTube just search WOPC. I do commentary by myself so it can be tough but I do have a camera man and a producer that helps.
  10. I'll take a close game over a blow out any day! Hopefully we will be healthy this week. Last week, not so much.
  11. The Vikings (1-6, 0-3 R6-1A) travel to South Fulton (3-3, 1-2 R6-1A) on Friday. The Vikings have been hit with the injury bug. Last week against McEwen they had their starting QB, RB, DB, a LB, a Safety, and a lineman all on the bench with various injuries. This week they should be back to full strength. Both the Red Devils and Vikings are vying for that #4 seed in the Region along with Gleason and Bruceton. The Vikings have had a tough schedule so far. They won 38-20 at Middleton, lost (thanks weather delay) at Hickman County 20-8, lost at #4 Dresden, lost vs. 3A Community, lost to #1 McKenzie, lost to Scotts Hill (it was 7-6 at the half before injuries), then lost to #8 McEwen with a depleted roster. I don't like to say "well if we had so and so or whoever they would have played better." The turnovers have been a problem this year but they could have come back and won against Scotts Hill and would have given McEwen a better fight. But, the younger players got some much needed experience as well. The future looks bright but still a couple years away. But this team has a chance to win out and make the #4 seed but its going to be tough driving 2 hours and 15 minutes on fall break this week but if this team wants to make the playoffs for the first time since 2011, they are going to have to overcome these odds. Not to mention that South Fulton is much improved and they are not going to be a push over by any means. They want to make the playoffs as well. Thoughts? Comments? Smart Remarks?
  12. Looks like a great game in the making. Lewis County continues to get better and Loretto has had some tough competition. I see a close game where either team can pull it out. It will be tough for LC because they are on the road and Loretto seems to play well at home. Whoever wins wouldn't shock me.
  13. I couldn't agree more SpottedGoat. The disconnect between schools and "rivalries" are not there because Perry County has only had a team since 1997 (99 was the first varsity season), but before that they played from 65-72 and closed the program again due to money and interest. So PC is totally different from some of these "football loving" schools. PC ultimately is a Basketball school (3rd in state titles, 4th in total State appearances, 3rd in Final Fours, etc.) but Football is getting more popular. It was great from 1999-2011. Besides going 0-10 in 2007 (mainly due to a new coach from out of town) they went to the playoffs every year or they would go 5-5 or 6-4. They were very competitive. Then they went to the 1A Semi-Finals in 2010. But since 2011, they have only won more than 2 games in a season, once (2013, 3-7). Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings or stepping on toes or anything like that, but Perry County and McEwen should not be in this region. McKenzie and Dresden probably should be 2A, maybe not because of numbers but both those teams would have better competition in 2A because of the talent that is there. Perry County may be a big county, but only 8,000 people live in it and most of them are 40+. Schools are finally getting bigger but the most they will have in high school will be probably around 320 in the next few years. We don't have another school in the county so kids can't go to one school one year and then go to another school the next because it's open enrollment. Linden and Lobelville are 30-45 minutes away from another county or city. Can't get more rural then that. Its hard to compete against teams that have the facilities (we play in the outfield of the baseball field) and have sponsors/ boosters that help in getting money to update the facilities. The junior pro is finally getting better because they are playing Dickson, Fairview, Waverly, Mt. Pleasant, etc. and the Minors (8-9-10 yr olds) are 4-1 and averaging 42 points a game. Hopefully they will continue to get better and one day Perry County might be back to the way they were in the 2000's but until then, they do not need to be in a Region that has two state title contenders or schools that are side by side to each other (Gleason, Dresden, McKenzie, South Fulton, Bruceton). Love the travel but the competition is just different in West Tennessee because football is king. Nothing against anybody, any teams or anything, it's just tough to face juggernauts of schools that are in counties that are triple to quadruple the people from our county. We do the best we can with who we got and we have a bunch of kids that just want to compete and do the best they can every friday night regardless of talent.
  14. Perry County has had to play #3 ranked Dresden, 3A Community and #1 ranked McKenzie the last three weeks. The last five weeks of the season seem to be a lot better on a competitive level for PC. vs. Scotts Hill (2-3) at #10 McEwen (3-1) at South Fulton (2-2) vs. Bruceton (0-5) vs. Gleason (2-3) Now, this is the final non-Region game for the Vikings this season. It was 28-14 Community at the half, PC beat Middleton on the road 38-20 (38-14 with main team), led Hickman County 8-6 in the fourth quarter, can they find some momentum in the next few weeks? We shall see but it's going to be a tall task. This game against Scotts Hill should be a good game but Scotts Hill has some big boys and good playmakers, can PC slow them down and get big stops? Can they score? There is one factor, this game is going to be on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at Viking Stadium and not on Friday, because of the referee shortage. Does that help or hurt PC or Scotts Hill?
  15. I don't think any team in Memphis should be in 1A or 2A. It's open enrollment with 900,000 people living in Shelby County. It's not fair to county schools in rural areas like Perry County or small schools that don't have open enrollment. They would get better competition against bigger schools then playing teams that may or may not have any players that have a prayer at going to college to play ball. There are so many kids in the city of Memphis, that all the schools no matter if there are 200 kids or 2,000, they can compete in the upper classes. I hate that MAHS shut down, they were a very good program and was on the rise but now MASE is going to benefit amazingly with having the MAHS team and coaches in their school.
  16. Perry County. Just saying lol. I notice alot of people say "Perry" "Gibson" etc. Can we not say Co. or County?
  17. file:///C:/Users/jaybi/OneDrive/Desktop/Viking%20Stadium%20visitors%20side.jpg Places to eat in Linden: Tim's Video Corner, B&H Dairy Bar, Village Pizza, Mongo's Parlor, Hen's and Hog's, The Commodore Hotel, Subway, Sonic, and Mi Pueblito. Either way, they are great places to eat. The Vikings are hoping to get out of this game healthy with 5 games left and those 5 games are "winnable" if the Vikings play like they should. I haven't heard anything about the Vikings "winning" this game but they are going to play their best because they don't want to get blown out. By the way, PC plays in the outfield of the baseball stadium. Only two teams play in the outfield of their baseball field, the other Marshall County (Lewisburg). Pic link is above.
  18. There won't be any surgery on the brain bleed. He is stable and is sitting up in bed. Has to wear a back brace. He is still confused at times, they are going to try and get him to eat. Just wanted to update. I have never been to a football game in Dresden so this will be new for me. How is the service there? Just want to make sure I can update back home lol. Maybe I can run in to some of yall at the game. God Bless and hope for a good and injury free game.
  19. He is stable and was able to know people but has a fractured skull (with brain bleed), facial fractures, and other broken bones. He's been in and out of surgery most of the day. I'll try to follow up when I hear anymore.
  20. Keep the Vikings in your thoughts and prayers. Senior DB and RB was in a car crash today and has a hole in his head. He was life flighted to Nashville.
  21. Hopefully we'll be better by then but it's going to be tough trying to stop Wills. He's killed us since Middle School. Big, Physical runner who isn't slow and so hard to get down.
  22. I appreciate it. It's odd that they put PC in this Region. Should be us, McEwen, Wayne County, Collinwood, and Houston County all in a Region. I say Houston County because they are teetering on 1A and 2A. But nothing we can do but do the best we can. Our guys will do everything they can to compete. They can't help the fact that some of the most athletic kids in the school play basketball and the star Point Guard is playing for the first time ever this year. But they are great kids and some have bad home lives but football helps them to escape and just have fun. Even in the game at Hickman County, that was a game we should've won. We led Middleton 38-14 and was driving with our JV before one of the young guys fumbled and the Middleton starters took it back for a Touchdown. Vikings only gave up 118 yards of total offense and PC had 420+ yards total. This team will be better but they have alot of seniors unfortunately.
  23. It's hard to compete against schools that have more than one high school in their county. That's been the problem with Perry County sports. Perry County has 8,300 total people living in a county that has 423 square miles of land. The town of Linden only has around 1,000. There is 290 or so kids in the high school. Dresden has 330 kids but they live in a county that has 35,000+ residents. It's a tough place to live here. There's one plant (NYX) that is still open. The Hospital closed when Covid hit and the main factory (Bates Fabricating) in Lobelville closing, there is hardly any jobs unless you are a small business owner, school teacher or if you work somewhere else that has a hospital/health care facility. The football program isn't what it used to be because we did not have a feeder system like Junior Pro from 2012-2017. However, since 2018, the Junior Pro program is back and running and there are 50+ kids on three teams. That's the most that Perry County Football has had in years. More kids are wanting to play. They play Fairview, Lewis County, Dickson, Lewisburg and Columbia plus a few more. They are making the playoffs and making the semi-finals. Their 8-9-10 year olds as long as they continue to develop or grow I believe Perry County will be competitive and hopefully be a threat again. But the team at the high school now has almost 40 kids, that's 20+ more kids that they had last year and the year before. This team is a lot better then last years team but instead of having kids that have played football since they were five, most of these kids didn't start playing until they were 11 or so. Dresden and McKenzie and Gleason and Huntingdon, etc, have a great tradition of football. Unlike Perry County where Basketball is king and football has only been around since 1997, everyone else's has been around since the 50's or 60's. It will be a tough game for the Vikings and Dresden players and fans can say or do whatever they want but this Viking team is starting the foundation that is helping the program get back to the day's of the 2000's.
  24. The TSSAA really scrambled up the southwestern part of middle tennessee as well as some of west tennessee. This helps and hurts a lot of teams. We'll see how things go but from what I can tell and I'm just going by last years teams, West Carroll and McKenzie are top dogs, Perry County is the dark house followed by Bruceton. The rest seems to be up in the air. What are yall's thoughts? District 11A Big Sandy Red Devils Houston Co. Fighting Irish McEwen Warriors McKenzie Rebels District 12A Bruceton Central Tigers Clarksburg Rockets Frank Hughes (Clifton) Lions Perry Co. Vikings West Carroll War Eagles
