  1. If you can't make the game tomorrow due to not wanting to get out because of COVID, you can watch the Live-Stream on 101.3 WOPC's Facebook, @wopcfm on Twitter and search WOPC on YouTube and you can watch it on your big screen TV in the comfort of your own home. Pregame will be at 6:45 and then kickoff at 7 p.m.
  2. According to a very reliable source, this had nothing to do with the football, volleyball or golf teams.
  3. He was mistaken. It was 3 games. But yeah the TSSAA couldn't prove otherwise. They started school in January of 2012 and stayed here all year but once PC beat Lewis County (a team who never loses in football to PC) TSSAA was on the case and supposedly these two lineman that were not on the team the year before got in trouble. That was a special year and could've been a great playoff game against WC for a chance at Cookeville.
  4. As long as you can tackle the two big brothers who are both 6'2, 220 and with some speed then you'll be fine. They ran the ball 41 times and never passed. They have four different RB's, the brothers (44, 49) and the QB (10) and another RB (27). The big guys just put their head down and just punished the defense. When the Vikings were able to get low on them they went down but I think most other teams specifically Huntingdon and Bruceton and possibly Collinwood can beat them. However, they need to improve on defense. The Vikings have some athleticism and a lot of speed but McEwen missed tackles as well.
  5. Dudley and yes the offensive line of the Vikings has struggled at times but when they do block, the running game is very good. It's just taking forever for him to stay in the pocket and be able to hit an open receiver.
  6. Yeah, those boys became great men, husbands and fathers now for some of them. Jacob Tucker is now helping with this years team. So you will get to see him once again before the game next week in Scotts Hill (Lord willing) but probably up in the booth but he does stay on the sidelines some from what I've seen. But yes the Vikings program is on the rise and hopefully will get back to the way it was from 05-11.
  7. Vikings coming off another tough game against McEwen losing 49-30, the Warriors had a couple of brothers that were about 6'1, 220 apiece and could run and bounce tacklers off like a pinball machine (you kids know what that is?). The Vikings offense did a pretty good job on the ground but their passing game came out of it's shell and did a better job then in week 1 but the QB was under pressure all night. The Bulldogs hung tough against a very good and talented Waverly team only losing 20-0 but it was a two score game the entire time basically and from what the tape looked like, this team has some big men up front but their bread and butter so far is their defense. They are physical and when their defender grabs you, they aren't letting go. All time record in this series that goes back to 1966, Hickman Co. has a record of 9-0 against Perry Co. With all this COVID stuff I hope everyone stays healthy and we are able to play this game and all our games this season. Give us your thoughts and comments.
  8. Yes Trader, it was 2005 to 2011. In 2010, they beat Wayne County 50-48 in 3 OT's and it was the first ever win against WC and their only Region/District Championship in Football. Before then though, they were very competitive and went to the playoffs on numerous occasions but from 97-04 they played only West Tennessee teams like TCA, USJ, Fayette Academy, Humboldt, Union City, etc. In 2010 they went to the Semi-Finals against Jo Byrns and their defense was suffocating and they had a relentless runner in the backfield. But in 2011, two boys were deemed disqualified in 3 games (that we won) including Lewis County 21-6. Either way, this team went to the second round and lost 45-21 to Huntingdon on the road. Since then, Perry County pretty much didn't have a junior pro program until last season. They are finally getting some kids at 5 to 10 years old when before they were starting in the 8th grade or worse, waiting until Freshman year to play.
  9. Vikings haven't been to the playoffs since 2011 and 2013 was the last time they won more than 2 games and it's been since 2016 since they won more than 1. This program has gone 3-27 the last three years. The main reason is they haven't had a feeder program like junior pro. They only had middle school football and usually they only got to play when they were in 7th or 8th grade. So very little experience but the junior pro program came back last year and more kids are out this year. Majors beat Waverly 32-0 this past saturday but I believe Waverly had a few kids out. But either way the Pee Wee's, Minors and Majors look better and the middle school and high school will hopefully follow.
  10. Looking like there will be some good weather on Friday in Linden. Hopefully that means better control of the ball and their passing game can get going. QB has an arm and they have a couple of good receivers with a Freshman leading the way. He's 6'1 and very athletic.
  11. Sounds like a lot of you are just going off the past. McEwen lost a lot, Perry County has some good skill players with speed. Only thing about this Vikings team is depth on the lines and turnovers. If they don't turn it over they should be in most games they play. Just my opinion, guess we'll see on Friday.
  12. Perry County hosts McEwen this week. The Warriors had their first game against Houston County get cancelled due to Houston County not being in school, then didn't get to play Stewart County this week due to another team the Rebels played had a player with COVID so they ended up canceling. The Vikings have some talent. Obviously depth is the biggest concern as well as the turnovers, had 4 last week against East Hickman. If they stop turning the ball over, this Vikings team can win some games. McEwen lost 18 seniors last year and a lot of skill players. Thoughts?
  13. Been a couple of years but I'm back for good I guess. Miss watching these kids from around the southwestern part of middle tennessee play. Hope everyone's doing good with mask wearing, social distancing and using hand sanitizer. But anyway, I'm curious to see what everyone's opinion is on Region 6 in Class 1A. Wayne County lost to a very improving program in Loretto, Huntingdon lost at home (which is unheard of) to rival McKenzie, Collinwood dominated Middleton, McEwen hasn't played yet due to COVID-19, Bruceton hasn't played yet either and Perry County looked good for a quarter and a half and the big linesman of East Hickman wore out the Vikings but turnovers hurt too with two fumbles and two on downs. So with Huntingdon "rebuilding" i'm still going to say they are the favorite. Does that mean the other 5 are up in the air? Thoughts? Again, glad to be back on and talking High School football and I pray for good health throughout the season to all the teams.
  14. Remember when this game had a lot of meaning to it earlier this decade? What happened? Anyway, Wildcats come in at (1-7, 1-3 R6) and the Vikings come in at (0-8, 0-4 R6). It's going to be a wet and rainy game. I'm curious to see how this one goes and hopefully it will be a good one that comes down to the wire.
  15. Perry County's got a lot of inexperience. Played a lot better against Collinwood but the lack of depth on the team hurts. However, if these boys in Junior Pro stay with it, the middle school and high school will have some players in the next few years. This is only the 2nd year in restarting the Perry County Junior Pro program. The kids in Middle School and High School never played Junior Pro due to the fact that Perry County hasn't had a program since 2012. These kids play in the Tri-County league with Fairview, Mt. Pleasant, Dickson, Centerville, Lewis County, Columbia, East Hickman, McEwen, White Bluff, Charlotte and Burns. Pee Wee's (6-0), Minors (2-5), Majors (3-3).
  16. This should be a dandy. Brothers from the east and the west of Linden taking on each other. Good luck to both teams this year! I gotta go with the Hole in the Wall in this one 21-18.
  17. Depth could be an issue with the Vikings. Saw on the roster they only have 25 players. Now that could be mainly because of a new coach. But there's over 50 kids in the junior pro program so hopefully the future will get brighter. For this season, hopefully they can win more than 1 or 2 games.
  18. Perry County brings back some good talent in their QB, RB, and some good receivers. Lost some talent in the trenches but should be better than last year. The Vikings are on their third head coach this decade with Calvin Zemer after Billy Sawyer had 6 years and a 8-52 record. East Hickman is coming off a 0-10 season but they were in a lot of games last year. How do yall see this playing out?
  19. Week 1 Schedule Perry County @ East Hickman Middleton @ Collinwood West Carroll @ Bruceton Houston County @ McEwen Wayne County @ Loretto Huntingdon @ McKenzie Here are my picks for Week 1. Good Luck to everyone this week.
  20. From 2001-02 season to the 2013-14 season, Coach Helton went 213-152 at Lewis County. Went to the Class AA state tournament in 2009-10. Before Lewis County, he was a head coach at Forrest and then an assistant at Mt. Juliet. He has 485 wins in his career. The last five years he has been the coach of the Franklin County Rebelettes and went 65-83. Went to the Region tournament every year but of course went up against the Murfreesboro teams of Riverdale, Blackman, Oakland, and Stewarts Creek. Should be a good hire for the Vikings and the future of this proud and historic program.
  21. Former Head Coach and now State Representative Kirk Haston has stepped down as Head Coach of the Vikings. He has been replaced by long time head girls coach of the Lewis County Panthers as well as Franklin County girls coach Larry Helton. Coach Helton said he admired the history of Perry County Basketball (Linden) and is looking forward to getting the team back to Murfreesboro. Coach Helton also said it was a dream come true to be the head coach at PCHS. More on this later.
  22. Been a while since I've been on here. I'm going to do my best to be on here a lot more this season as long as my job allows it. Missed you guys and gals.
  23. Perry County has a pretty good squad coming back. It's good to see that the future looks bright as the Junior Pro program restarted last year and played really well today at the Jamboree in Waverly. As for the High School team, new head coach Calvin Zemer replaces Billy Sawyer who went (8-52) in his 6 seasons. Coach Zemer has been the Offensive Coordinator for the Vikings for several years and is the OC for the middle school as well. We'll see how things go for the Vikings who are looking to try and win more than 1 game in a season for the first time since 2016 when they won 2. They haven't won more than 2 since 2012 when they went (3-7). Having said all that, all those kids from that time didn't play junior pro so hopefully the experience factor will be better for the future.
  24. Going by what I seen Monday against Loretto, Huntingdon is not better than Summertown. Yes they have height but their shooters missed a ton of shots and they turned the ball over a lot. I feel like if Summertown continues to shoot as good as they do they should have no problem with them. But it's a Region Championship game and anything could happen but if I had to pick i'd say Summertown by 15.
